Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 399: Chapter 144 Escape

Seven or eight hours had passed since Chen Ming and Bai Quan ended their communication.

The resource transportation efforts of Chen Ming’s two cruisers had made significant progress once again.

Particularly over at Radiant, where there are fewer colonies, and the most important colony is the one hosting the Energy Crystal Crab. The industrial facilities there lean towards using clean energy.

The operational cost of these industrial devices is relatively high, and their output is comparatively low, making them unsuitable for early-stage colony development.

Thus, Chen Ming abandoned these equipment, as he currently does not need them.

Consequently, the remaining parts of the transport moved quickly, having been completely transferred through the Giant Level and cargo fleets up to now.

Everything, from Dusk units to some indispensable advanced equipment, was transported away.

Even, Chen Ming successfully acquired the Energy Crystal Crab breeding technology from the colony.

And a portable large ecological chamber.

The chamber contained a whole batch of about a thousand Energy Crystal Crabs and over ten thousand eggs of the Energy Crystal Crab.

Although they generally appeared as an ellipsoid the size of a human head, the eggs themselves were quite angular, and like the crystal shells of the Energy Crystal Crab, they emitted a crystal-like luster.

Appearing very eye-catching.

Chen Ming felt that this ecological chamber was probably established by Dusk to spread the Energy Crystal Crab population for long-distance transport within the small ecological system.

Previously, there wasn’t much value in this for Chen Ming, at most, it could be sold off.

But for Chen Ming now, the value of this chamber far exceeds that.

However, it’s still too early to think about that now.

Over at Brilliant, there are several batches of resources waiting for transport.

As Radiant had completed its tasks, it came over to help transport a few times.

Hence, the entire relocation process could be said to be nearing its end, wrapping up about half a day quicker than Chen Ming had anticipated, and with almost no interference.

That’s the benefit of efficient planning and preparation.

But now, a problem is lying ahead of Chen Ming.

His Spiritual Power is on the brink of exhaustion.

Especially towards the end, maintaining Spiritual Power was becoming increasingly difficult.

While the Spiritual Power consumed in teleportation engine maintenance hadn’t increased much, his physical feeling did not reflect that.

Suppose a task requires twenty percent of one’s energy, then performing it with full energy is entirely different from doing so with only thirty percent left.

Although the maintenance didn’t demand much expenditure, this is still the point.

Chen Ming is experiencing this sensation now.

Moreover, according to Chen Ming’s rough estimates,

If he continues trying to transport all the remaining resources, his ensuing evacuation plan might incur certain risks.

Hence now, to be safe rather than sorry, he’s willing to abandon the final batch of resources that cannot be transported in time.

After all, the most valuable items have already been sent off first.

Resources critical for early colony development have also been dispatched.

Whatever remains is no more than icing on the cake; obtaining them is a bonus, and missing them will not be consequential.

Affirming this situation, Chen Ming directly altered his plan.

He said to Brilliants who were adjusting Dusk transport fleet composition, ”Stop transporting resources, have the engineering ships begin dismantling the cores of those transport ships and concentrate on transporting them.”

”This is the final batch.”

”Acknowledged.”

Brilliant promptly accepted Chen Ming’s command to change the plan, beginning to readjust and reallocate the tasks among each Dusk unit.

Transitioning from preparing the freight fleet to collaborating with the few engineering ships to dismantle cores, the entire process was seamless without any unexpected accidents.

The time spent midway also allowed Chen Ming’s Spiritual Power to recover somewhat, to possibly endure one more teleportation engine maintenance.

Quickly, Brilliant had rearranged the downsized fleet.

Upon abandoning the last few batches of resources, the fleet immediately streamlined to the normal limit of capacity for a teleportation.

Once this final transport is executed, apart from the small portion of resources Chen Ming opted to give up voluntarily, all other items could be successfully transported.

This was already for Chen Ming a very surprising, very delightful, very satisfactory result.

After watching Brilliant depart, Chen Ming retracted his focus from it.

He himself ought to prepare for the final evacuation now.

It is already the midnight of the second day.

He had not slept for over forty hours.

Throughout, maintaining a high concentration of Spiritual Power was essential to provide immediate maintenance to Brilliant and Radiant.

Even though he was laying in bed with eyes shut to disguise, he dared not let his consciousness scatter for even a moment; otherwise, he might fall asleep anytime.

Fortunately, it was now the final stage, and he no longer needed to continue lying on the bed.

Chen Ming got off the bed and went to the bathroom.

Staring at the mirror showing his heavy black circles under his eyes, irrecoverable from the semblance of vitality he had days before.

The once spirited eyes had now grown somewhat dim.

Moreover, having no energy to groom himself, he looked entirely a mess.

No matter how young, no matter how good the energy, going entirely sleepless, unrested, combined with a significant expenditure of Spiritual Power, nobody could endure it.
