Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 376: Chapter 138 Dimensional Infection_2

”Otherwise, it’s just a hunk of dead flesh, something without consciousness.”

The boss spoke with some disdain when talking about clones.

”In short, if a being without consciousness possesses rare psychic energy, it’s akin to a piece of fat hanging by the roadside that attracts some filth lurking in certain corners.”

”Some things you could understand as being similar to the superspace, but in a space that humans cannot set foot in.”

”These things are somewhat like the superspace phantoms that spaceships occasionally encounter while navigating superspace.”

”Currently, we have no way to investigate the specific forms of these superspace phantoms, at most they occasionally observe spaceships in superspace, releasing interference waves that affect engine efficiency.”

”Phantoms aren’t considered dangerous to humans, causing at most a headache; a single pulse can drive them away.”

”But the Space Entities attracted by a clone without consciousness are on a completely different level of danger compared to those living in superspace.”

The boss gave a general introduction and began to explain what had happened to Chen Ming.

”Based on records.”

”The first issues with the cloning research institute were related to the affected parts of the clone’s body – the eyes.”

”And this effect, termed as dimensional infection.”

Chen Ming interjected at this point: ”Infection? Not parasitism? I thought it was something from that space coming out.”

”No, not parasitism; they certainly can’t emerge from their space for now, only able to influence us by following the traces of psychic energy.”

”In fact, ordinary spiritual creatures and psychics can also perceive them, but any normal living creature inherently rejects them when perceived; only clones fail to react.”

”The affected parts of the clone’s body develop distorted consciousness influenced by those things, becoming a form of life.”

”That’s roughly the same situation as in the photos you sent.”

”The eyes turned into what should be... the heart, right? And such distortions, although the situation is more severe.”

”The ability of this distortion to spread is terrifying; ordinary people have no resistance at all and are affected just by approaching.”

”All affected people’s eyes turn into living entities, separating by themselves.”

Chen Ming pressed his hand to his chest, asking: ”When I approached that distorted heart, my chest felt tight; is it spreading?”

”Yes, but you’re a Psychic, naturally resistant to such things.”

”But if it were an ordinary person, by the time they felt the tightness in their chest, the heart would have distorted and left.”

”That’s how it was before, those living eyeballs spread far when they left the body.”

”Regardless of whether dead or alive, anything with eyes gets affected.”

”But can you imagine a habitable planet becoming full of flying eyeballs? Or the entire planet turning into part of one large eye? And even more beyond that.”

”Just thinking about the consequences of a dimensional infection outbreak in the Prosperous Star Realm, how many lives and materials disappeared at that time, causing unprecedented destruction.”

”We’ve fought against Dusk for years and have a considerable tolerance for losses.”

”But the Empire still completely banned cloning experiments, showing how terrifying the negative impact was.”

”Ultimately, we barely managed to successfully deal with dimensional infection and sealed off the information, banning cloning research.”

Chen Ming asked curiously: ”So how was the dimensional infection finally dealt with?”

”A Psychic banished those things.”

”Banish?”

”You can think of it as expelling them from our universe, sending all infected things back to the space they came from.”

”Hmm, roughly.”

The boss seemed a bit unsure when saying this, apparently not fully aware of the specific resolution and circumstances.

Yet even the parts he mentioned were already quite exaggerated.

The boss’s words clearly indicated that at least one prosperous star system in the Human Empire was infected with dimensional infection, and a Psychic expelled that entire star system, filled with distorted spiritual creatures.

Chen Ming found it hard to imagine the power of such a Psychic.

At this moment, Chen Ming’s focus was not only on the Psychic mentioned by the boss but also thinking about another issue.

Now, Chen Ming realized the situation around him.

Fortunately, there was nobody besides a batch of clones in Dusk.

This containment limited the impact of the cloning experiment to the small area of the cloning research institute.

Thus, humans should be able to use this method too.

Build cloning research institutes in several resource-poor, remote star systems in the Edge Star Realm.

With the technology of faster-than-light communication, remotely arrange robots and devices for control, block the star system immediately if problems arise, and find ways to handle it from afar.

If planets can’t be handled, small satellites can certainly be processed; building research institutes on satellites shouldn’t be difficult.

Then why doesn’t the Empire do this?

Chen Ming knew the Empire must have a reason for not doing this, so he simply asked the question.

And the boss quickly responded: ”Actually, there was no cloning ban just after dealing with dimensional infection; the ban was issued about half a year later.”
