Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 258: Chapter 109: Plans Cannot Keep Up with Changes

Chen Ming’s eyebrows were tightly furrowed, and his expression grew increasingly grave.

He was quite perplexed as to why a damaged Gamma Level AI Core was present in this Torrent Level ship he had asked Old Wu to purchase through official channels. What on earth was going on?

Instinctively, Chen Ming wanted to call Old Wu to ask about the situation since the goods went through his hands.

But in the next moment, Chen Ming realized he had no need to inquire with Old Wu.

He could directly ask the AI involved.

However, Chen Ming directly used the Warrior to forcibly connect to the Torrent Level’s communication device and said a phrase, but received no response.

Furthermore, the questions he posed through his consciousness vanished like a stone dropped into the sea, with no feedback whatsoever.

Chen Ming glanced at the word ”damaged” behind the Gamma Level AI Core on the panel, seemingly due to this, leading to the current situation.

Chen Ming pondered for a moment and decided not to repair it immediately.

After all, it wasn’t just this Gamma AI connected to the Torrent Level; Gamma B was also connected.

Chen Ming moved his hands and granted all permissions of the Torrent Level to Gamma B, which was also connected to it.

At the same time, he issued a command saying, ”Check this Torrent Level, there is one of your Gamma Level cores inside, but it seems to be damaged. I need you to find out its status.”

Chen Ming was actually keen to investigate the damage issue of this Gamma Core himself.

However, when he interacted with the AI Core, he could only see the core’s brief panel through the interface and had no understanding of the Dusk individual’s consciousness within the core.

He knew nothing about the operating logic, the origin of its personality, and could only compel them through the ability to give commands that would never be disobeyed.

Thus, diagnosing the specific damage had to be left to Dusk to handle.

Before long, Gamma B began communicating with Chen Ming through the Torrent Level.

Even though Chen Ming could issue commands to the AI Core through consciousness.

The AI Core’s response could not be transmitted back through their consciousness; he could only see it through some indirect means.

And Gamma B naturally used the simplest method—typing on the control panel.

Chen Ming could see it directly.

Gamma B almost instantly replied to Chen Ming with a long string: ”I just conducted a comprehensive examination on it.”

”Its core is not using an original Gamma Level core but rather one that is partly human-manufactured and partly modified, which might be one reason for its damage.”

”Its storage module contains some preset commands like combat, cover, counterattack, and so on.”

”Additionally, its personality module shows clear signs of self-concealment, and the computational module is damaged, leaving its overall computational power less than a tenth of what it was.”

”It also has an external storage module that stores its past memories.”

”Right now, it is merely serving as the control core of this Torrent Level spaceship.”

After reading Gamma B’s reply, Chen Ming immediately said, ”That much I can see. What I want to know is why it can serve as this spaceship’s core and how it was sold to me.”

”Moreover, it’s still part of Dusk like you. Did you really find out everything about it so easily?”

Gamma B quickly replied to Chen Ming: ”It has opened up virtually all its permissions to the outside, except for the personality module and the hidden external storage module beneath it.”

”But you still managed to read it?”

”Because our personality module is something humans haven’t been able to fully understand, not even us, akin to humans still being unable to completely understand their own brains.”

”I could bypass part of its personality module and access more content.”

”However, its memory-storing module is encrypted, and I need more time to crack it.”

Chen Ming didn’t mind waiting a bit, but he suddenly thought of something and asked, ”Since it’s encrypted, how did you know this module stores its memory?”

”Because it named this module ’My Memory’.”

”...”

Chen Ming skipped this topic and, taking advantage of the time while Gamma B was extracting the memories, asked, ”You said it hid the external storage module storing its memory data behind its already hidden personality module?”

Gamma B decisively replied, ”Yes.”

And Chen Ming further asked, ”Does that mean it was intentional?”

”Yes, it even set a timed activation device in the hidden block, which periodically collects ship logs based on the ship’s usage and sends them back to the core.”

”What data?”

”All data, including ship sensor data, video data, voice communication data, operational data, and more.”

”Doesn’t it collect them normally?”

”Its storage device only holds combat-related commands, and it seems that these are the only executable commands. It should only activate in combat and has no permission to do these other tasks during peace.”

”Those destructive devices in the core cabin must be meant to restrict it.”

Chen Ming looked at Gamma B’s reply, his eyebrows gradually furrowing.

He felt something was off; this Gamma Core’s presence here was definitely problematic.

Speed Particle Technology had no reason to use a Gamma Level core as an AI core for a Torrent Level ship.

Because the value of a Gamma AI alone already exceeds that of a Torrent Level ship.
