After rejecting my celebrity husband

Chapter 2129: Chapter 2133: Worse Than Death

Holding the phone in her drooping hand, Lei Qingqing’s smile was venomous like a scorpion.

”The most terrifying thing in this world is not death, but a fate worse than death.”

On the other end of the call, Leng Zirui stuffed his phone into his bag, reached over, and grabbed the driver’s collar.

”Stop, I’ll drive!”

The taxi driver turned his face in shock, seeing a thick stack of cash being handed to him.

The driver glanced at the rearview mirror, then immediately slammed the brakes.

Before the car could fully stop, Leng Zirui pushed the door open and rushed out, yanking the taxi driver out and throwing him in the backseat. He sat down in the driver’s seat and slammed the door shut.

The taxi driver barely had time to close the rear door when the taxi shot off like an untamed horse.

Running multiple red lights, driving in the wrong lane twice, and cutting through a narrow alley, Leng Zirui screeched the car to a halt in front of the XX police station, jumped out, and dashed inside.

The taxi driver, pale-faced, watched him disappear into the police station, dumbfounded.

...

...

Upstairs, Xu Xia, accompanied by Shangguan Feng, walked out of the holding room, her fingers still tightly clenching the bracelet and ring.

”I’ve handled everything; it was all just a misunderstanding.” Shangguan Feng looked at her and didn’t deliberately try to support her, just maintaining a not too close, not too distant presence beside her. ”Let’s go downstairs first. I’ve already arranged for your bodyguard. Everything’s been cleared up. However, due to certain procedures, your passport and documents will be held for a few more days, and you can’t leave the country yet.”

”Thank you,” Xu Xia whispered her thanks.

”Otherwise, you and your bodyguard could stay at my place...” Shangguan Feng cautiously suggested, ”Please don’t misunderstand, Miss Xu. I’m just concerned it might be inconvenient for you to stay at a hotel without your documents.”

”No need, I have someplace to go.” Xu Xia stepped into the elevator with him, ”May I take my luggage and phone?”

”Of course you can. My assistant went to get them; he should be downstairs now.” Shangguan Feng extended his hand and pressed the button for the first floor, ”Or would you like to use my phone first?”

”No, I’ll make a call once I’m downstairs.” Xu Xia felt much calmer now, and turned to him politely, ”Mr. Shangguan, I really must thank you this time.”

”It was nothing.” Shangguan Feng smiled warmly, ”Even without me, you two would have left successfully. I just went along with the flow.”

Xu Xia knew inwardly that the matter was not that simple.

If Shangguan Feng hadn’t arrived promptly, she would probably have spent the evening with those three little witches, and her bracelet and ring would likely have been snatched away.

”Your hand is injured; shall I first take you to the hospital to tend to the wound?” Noticing the bloodstains on her palm, Shangguan Feng frowned and took out a handkerchief, but didn’t impulsively reach for her hand, ”Can I help you with a temporary bandage?”

Xu Xia was slightly taken aback, raising her face to look at him, only to see his gentle gaze, a pair of kind eyes filled with a clear sympathy.

”Thank you.”

She reached for his handkerchief, casually pressing it against the wound on the back of her hand, but her fingers still remained tightly clenched.

Shangguan Feng looked at her pale fingers from exerting too much force, and suddenly became curious about what exactly she was holding.

However, being a gentleman, it was always difficult for him to pry into someone else’s privacy.
