High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1697: Chapter 441: Drought Demon, Emperor Bug

”What a hassle.”

The Lich Mentor, Duke Ulysses, withdrew his gaze from above the inner castle and looked at the towering figures shouting ’Bo Fu Clan’ and charging below the outer castle, frowning: ”We’ve just started exchanging blows, and the school’s wizards have already deployed a Second Rank battle array... I’m afraid our youngsters will find it hard to cope.”

In the minds of old-school wizards, including demons, a large-scale war is a prolonged and brutal catastrophe, with both sides moving from entry, to probing, to engagement, fierce battle, decisive battle, and finally the end, often taking months or even years. Sometimes high-level wizards on both sides get so engrossed that they extend the timeline, expanding the battlefield to a range of decades up or down from the moment of combat.

So, to Duke Ulysses, this war, erupting in the Black Prison World, from Leviathan breaking the boundary to the four legendary beings leaving the battlefield, is considered the prelude to a full outbreak, with witches and demons still probing their attacks.

But now, while probing attacks haven’t fully ended, the wizards defending the ancient castle have already launched a Second Rank battle array, instantly escalating the intensity of the war, inevitably causing discomfort.

Bang!

A figure fell from the sky, crashing heavily on the altar beneath Duke Ulysses, scattering many of the bones that formed the altar and splashing lava everywhere.

”Howl!!”

The figure rolled on the ground, got up, and the five tails behind it whipped the air like long whips, making explosive, thunderous sounds.

Seemingly hearing Duke Ulysses’s complaint, the figure that descended from the sky turned its head, revealing a furry face resembling that of a tiger or leopard, with a bent horn on its forehead flickering with sizzling electric light.

It looked at the Lich Mentor and opened its mouth, with a voice as striking and cold as metal striking stone:

”Old man, get it together!”

”The wizards across have joined the New World expansion war, unlike the old-school ones who dilly-dally and can’t be bothered... If they could, they’d hope to end this war in a day!”

”If you still have anything up your sleeve, use it all at once!”

Duke Ulysses lowered his eyelids, looking at the wildly spirited Chizheng below the altar for a moment before answering slowly and softly: ”You should continue to deal with that scorpion along with Dororo... what happens afterward is for others to arrange.”

Chizheng angrily flicked its tail, roared at the old witch demon, and leapt once more, rushing towards the nearby battlefield. There, amidst the smoke and the dim glow of earthly fire, the Scorpion raised its pincers and straightened its long tail; multiple monster birds hoarsely screeched, opening their large mouths full of fangs, drooling saliva as corrosive as heavy acid rain.

The Duke withdrew his gaze and continued to observe those towering mimic giants across with a dark gaze.

Demon warriors, undead armies, and Leviathan’s beasts appear like swarms of insects before those giants, being beaten and scattered everywhere, their enormous weapons sweeping in all directions, dying when brushed, perishing when hit, creating nearly no hindrance to the wizards’ attacks.

Even the originally solid infernal equation array has become precarious, with many Pillars of Sauron snapped by the giants, and several Eyes of Sauron captured, turning into the giants’ trophies, pressed onto their foreheads, driven by magic power, and firing in all directions.

A thin figure fell silently like a dry leaf beside Duke Ulysses.

It was another great witch demon on the battlefield, the Black Prison’s prisoner, Sujade.

”We can’t let them carry on recklessly.”

Sujade snapped its jawbone, with two points of deep red light standing out in its hollow eye sockets: ”The undead of the Black Prison are extremely limited... bones can be rejoined with magic, but finding a suitable substitute for extinguished Soul Fires is challenging.”

”We need to execute the next step of the plan too.”

Duke Ulysses remained silent.

It already understood that in the original Black Prison, the most precious entities were those filled with magic power—whether magma, stone, or corpses—hence, the Black Prison World lacked the vast undead resources buried underground for eons found in other otherworldly conquests by the undead.

The dead prisoners would quickly be shared among other inmates; if their bones lost all magic power, they’d be ground into weapons or magic artifacts; if a trace of magic power remained, they’d be carefully sucked by the magic-starved hungry inmates until ground to bone powder and swallowed without wasting a shred.

”Really... it’s too fast.” Duke Ulysses was no stickler; upon confirming that the front line was at a disadvantage, it did not hesitate long, merely sighed lowly before spreading its arms again:

”The Drought Demon ravages as if kindling a blaze!”

”Ber Xiqie our lead, wielding spears forward drive.”

”Gods intoxicated cease, the Emperor’s body rises!”

”Bring forth the peach insect, spread fly the bird!”

The dark wind blew from the deepest part of the abyss, cold, icy; even though two suns shone infinite brilliance overhead and hot lava rolled below, it could not stop the chill from pervading the battlefield.

The murmur of spells was the ballad of the ancient wizard in the Tower, eerie and peculiar, sounding to wizards like long iron wires scraping glass, sharp and piercing, but to demons and undead, melodic like a mother’s lullaby by the cradle, enchanting and captivating.

Spectral winds lifted magma, thread by thread, like veins, draping over the undead; the deceased demons’ remains and flesh, like moths to a flame, landed on those hot veins, wrapping them layer upon layer, eventually cocooning them into elliptical eggs, the eggshells adorned with complex magic runes overlapped by hot magma and flesh, dazzling the eyes.

Further out, the swarming insect monsters that surged towards the outer castle now receded like the tide. But they did not retreat far; rather, they began to devour each other in a place not far from the wizards.

The insect swarms, which worked together as precisely as intricate instruments, showed no mercy as they slaughtered each other, severed limbs and fragments like a storm of black snowflakes, and the rustling gnawing sound horrified even the boldest wizard.

In a very short time, the Demon Alliance Army spawned hundreds or thousands of red and black giant eggs on the front lines. In the red giant eggs were Drought Demons constructed by undead with flesh, and in the black giant eggs were Emperor Bugs nurtured by insect monsters using the method of raising Gu.

The wizards did not ignore Duke Ulysses’s Cataclysmic Magic.

But countless undead and insect monsters, fearless of death, swarmed forward, firmly blocking the giants’ steps outside the giant egg hatching grounds. The deceased undead and insect monsters, summoned by Duke Ulysses’s magic, transformed into streaks of flowing light, returning to the giant eggs, urging them to mature faster.
