Chapter 1685: Chapter 429 Earth Dragon Turns Over

An unexpected event or tomorrow, you never know which will come first.

Zheng Qing couldn’t remember who said this, but as he lay on the back of the black cat, watching the scenery speedily flash by and the two suns overhead radiating boundless brilliance, this sentence unconsciously surfaced in his mind.

It seemed that ever since he received the admission notice from First University, unexpected events came one after another by his side—a demonic creature barged into the exclusive flight to the university; the ’puppy’ at his home was birthed by the number one beauty in the wizard world; the hamster he had taken care of for a long time not only talked but also fought fiercely; not to mention, he also learned the craft of explosions.

Until now.

The warlock lowered his head to glance at the v-shaped shadow beneath him, caused by the two suns in the sky. In a sense, in the Black Prison, ’tomorrow’ seemed to come earlier than unexpected events. Just a few minutes ago, the world was pitch-black, and suddenly, two suns rose, lighting up the sky.

Of course, it was only earlier by a small extent.

In the short time that the warlock was distracted, the black cat beneath him suddenly stumbled, as if one paw stepped on a cactus and the other into a hole, this stark difference caused the black cat’s speeding body to shake violently, almost dislodging its rider.

”Steady!” Zheng Qing quickly tightened his grip on the black cat’s long neck fur with a hint of annoyance in his voice: ”This isn’t the time to play around!”

He thought the black cat was joking with them. As a half-cat and the owner of the Cat Fruit Tree, the warlock knew just how whimsical a cat’s thoughts could be. Even the big fellow beneath him, which seemed reliable, might suddenly roll around on the gravelly ground just to hear the screams of the ’bugs’ on its back.

But to Zheng Qing’s surprise, the black cat didn’t turn around with a mischievous grin; instead, it suddenly stopped in its tracks.

”What happened?”

Jiang Yu’s head peeked over Zheng Qing’s shoulder, her soft breath brushing against the warlock’s earlobe, making him feel a bit heated all over.

This stirring feeling came quickly and went just as fast.

The next moment, he realized why the black cat had stopped and understood that he had wrongly blamed his old buddy beneath him.

A few miles away from the cat and the three humans, a ’mountain range’ stretching tens of miles long was winding forward under the radiant sunlight, spanning the path before them. As this ’mountain range’ moved, the earth trembled and mountains shook, turning the solid terrain into what seemed like sand and cream, easily rolling up massive earth waves to spread around.

Some flying debris even shot out a few or a dozen miles away, landing with a loud thud, with a few pieces just falling not far from the black cat, the collision’s weight having a visually striking impact.

The grandeur of nature faded under this mountain-like life force.

”This is...”

Zheng Qing gazed at the undulating ’mountain range,’ at the sift-like rotating maw at its forefront, at the thick encircling rigid skin segments of the mountain range, and under the sunlight, the dark magic runes flowing on the skin, making his throat tighten, unable to speak for a moment.

The black cat didn’t turn around, but seemed to guess what the warlock was thinking at the moment, replying hoarsely: ”Yes, it’s an Earth Dragon.”

Behind him, came a soft gasp from the witch.

If Zheng Qing were a girl, he would also want to scream twice to vent the sudden unease rising in his heart. Only in front of such a colossal being could one truly appreciate the insignificance and greatness of life.

Zheng Qing recognized the Earth Dragon; in the first Magic Potion Practice class, Professor Li Qihuang took everyone into the Hundred Herb Gardens, and that’s where he had seen the creature that loved to roll in the dirt.

However, as far as he knew, the Earth Dragon was just a low magic attribute creature, feeding on magic power and small unseen creatures in the soil. The young Earth Dragon was roughly the size of an adult’s arm, while a mature one could grow several meters thick and a hundred meters long.

But the one before him far exceeded the limits of a mature Earth Dragon, its surging magical aura comparable even to a Big Wizard.

For some reason, looking at that surging giant mountain range, Zheng Qing inexplicably had a bit of a laughter: ”Is this still a ’low magic attribute’ magical creature?”

”Magic mutation,” Jiang Yu said softly behind the warlock: ”In some special environments, magic will stimulate biological mutation to sustain the species... This Earth Dragon should belong to this situation.”

Zheng Qing guessed this answer, but still found it hard to believe. His impression of magical mutation was like subterranean creatures developing infrared-detecting eyes or originally low-intelligence white dragons suddenly fancying high-intellect games involving magic, or neat-freak black dragons and fly-breeding green dragons, and so on, involving only small-scale individual mutations.

A massive mutation like the Earth Dragon before them was unheard of.

”If I remember correctly, Earth Dragons favor magic-rich lands.” Looking at the giant beast rolling up hundreds of layers of earth waves in the distance, Zheng Qing couldn’t understand how the barren Black Prison could support such a colossal entity’s birth and growth.

”Just like the bizarrely colored creatures we encountered before,” the black cat glanced at the boy, then looked up at the sky:

”In the original Black Prison World, lacking magic and energy, they could only choose to hibernate underground close to magma, in magic-rich regions... But when two suns rose in the sky and the entire world’s magic became active suddenly, these hibernating giants would awaken first, to eat and compensate for their past deficiencies.”

”Especially creatures like the Earth Dragon, which benefit the land by untangling the earth’s veins and revitalizing the ground’s energy, attract the world’s will for priority attention and special protection. In book terms, they receive ’Heaven’s Favor,’ and any unprovoked attack on them will invoke the world’s will to restrain it.”

Hearing the black cat’s words, Zheng Qing, who had raised his loaded charm gun, quietly adjusted the gun’s muzzle, to avoid an accidental discharge that could send them tumbling into a chasm or facing a landslide the next second.

”So what do we do?” The witch stood on the back of the black cat, holding onto the boy’s shoulders, gazing into the distance—the massive Earth Dragon nonchalantly rolled in their sight, raising waves of earth, leaving hundreds of miles around it a mess, and detouring around this area would likely take considerable time.

Zheng Qing quickly calculated and found that the time needed to detour and the time to wait for the Earth Dragon to move on seemed about the same.

Just as he was about to suggest they wait it out on site.

The black cat’s neck fur suddenly bristled.

The next second, the solid rock beneath its feet churned and melted like clay, revealing a smooth cross-section. A gigantic, winch-like maw bristling with interlocking teeth suddenly opened wide, devouring a large patch of earth.

Another massive Earth Dragon, origin unknown.

The black cat and the three figures on its back were caught off guard, plummeting straight towards that huge maw.
