High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1664: Chapter 408 Silent Confrontation

Buzz!!

Not far in front of Zheng Qing, the solid ground suddenly collapsed, revealing a deep pit with a diameter of about a meter. Around the pit, a few pieces of loose soil remained, emitting white heat, as if the pit had been melted by some high-temperature existence; but inside the pit, there was no sight of scorching lava, only endless darkness, chilling the heart of anyone who gazed into it.

The Warlock pulled the Witch back carefully, taking two steps backward.

”What is that?” Jiang Yu’s jade pendant on her wrist glowed slightly, and the Law Book in her hand shimmered with a halo as she looked at the pit, quietly guessing, ”I’ve heard of a monster called Ground Drilling Demon Worm; similar pits appear on the ground before it emerges.”

Zheng Qing didn’t know what a Ground Drilling Demon Worm was.

But he knew that this sudden pit was no friendly ’greeting’ for sure.

”No matter if it’s the Ground Drilling Demon Worm or the Tree Demon Granny, if they dare appear before me, they should be ready to eat my bullet.” The Warlock clicked, loading his Charm Gun, his finger steadily on the trigger, striving to make his voice sound calm.

Then, he felt the Witch’s grip on his arm slightly tighten, perhaps indicating she felt reassured or assured by his words.

”Moo!”

The sudden sound of Nose Ring and Earring’s low roar interrupted the young man’s reverie. He turned his head quickly, glancing back, seeing the Double-headed Minoan raising its totem pole, lifted in mid-air, blocking a heavy falling wooden stick.

The tail of that stick was connected to a nearby dead old tree, with its trunk and stick covered in strange colors similar to those on the moss, lightly writhing like a flowing stream.

This time, Zheng Qing finally noticed those strange colors had spread throughout the entire dead forest.

Branches, trunks, bizarre rocks, gravel, even between the air and starlight, those peculiar colors flowed everywhere. The dead trees and strange stones touched by those colors were no longer lifeless and began to liven up.

Little Star summoned by ’Little Star’ quietly hung in the air, their shapes twisted and deformed across the bright colors, like Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, except these sunflowers were mostly in shades of blue and white.

A strange color passed through the Minoan’s totem pole, layering it with a brilliant hue, yet it didn’t hinder the pole from forming new Magic Power halos on the ground.

If these colors were poisonous, they would have long succumbed to the poison. With this realization, the Warlock extended his hand, spreading his fingers, and slowly closed them.

The peculiar colors silently flowed through his fingers, without the chill of holding water, the emptiness of grasping air, nor the resistance of holding mud. Zheng Qing felt as if he were holding a freshly born Slime, a slight stickiness in his hand, and a Wizard’s intuition warned him that these colors were dangerous.

”Absolutely unguardable.” He shook his head, quietly analyzing, ”Here is The first University, normally darkness is the only color in this world...ordinary prisoners entering this dead forest would find themselves surrounded by these colors before realizing it.”

Jiang Yu nodded, adding, ”Moreover, unlike toxic mist or miasma, we can immediately discern them with our senses...they seem merely abnormal hues, yet are teeming with vitality.”

As the two young Wizards quickly analyzed the dilemma before them, the Double-headed Minoan swung its totem pole, flying around, smashing branches pulled from the air to pieces.

Even so, countless animated branches in the forest were still forming twisted, bizarre claws, reaching towards the prey trapped in the net.

”Watch out!”

Zhu Si, hiding between the two heads of the Minoan, suddenly shouted, pointing at Zheng Qing’s feet, ”There’s something on the ground!”

The Warlock looked down, seeing slender white grass growing two or three inches above the ground, like soft ropes connected to one another, silently attaching to the Minoan’s hooves and the shoes of both the Wizards, finding each gap, and then reaching deeper.

More grass intertwined together, forming a large white net, binding the legs of the prey.

Rustle, rustle, rustle!

Only upon seeing those white grass sprites did the rustling sound reach Zheng Qing’s ears. This kind of sound was so unpleasant, evoking a feeling of an itch somewhere, yet hard to reach to scratch.

”Boom!”

A jade bead from Jiang Yu’s wrist fell, breaking in mid-air, transforming into a blue flame, scorching one hundred meters of ground instantly.

In the blink of an eye, the white grasses turned to ashes within the blue flame.

But the rustling sound continued endlessly.

Underfoot, visible between the gravel and ashes, the white grass sprouted new tender leaf tips bit by bit.

”We can’t go on like this.”

Zheng Qing murmured, leaning his face close to the Witch’s ear, quietly advising, ”Stand back a little, keep an eye on Zhu Si and the Minoan...I’m going to start shooting.”

Jiang Yu nodded silently, backing away a small step.

The Warlock lightly inhaled, raising his Charm Gun, aiming ahead—a vista of vivid colors and dead forests clawing amidst the rustling sound.

His finger slowly tightened on the trigger, about to pull it when a streak of color suddenly flickered in his sight, revealing a gap. The backdrop of the gap was the night sky of The first University, above which a blue-white orb shed faint starlight, within which a Black Cat was leaping around, battling against the surrounding colors, occasionally swiping its paw to smash branches extending from the darkness.

It was his own shadow.

Zheng Qing gazed into the Black Cat’s dark red eyes, feeling that familiar aura, and immediately withdrew his hand. Shooting now would leave the Black Cat either dead or half-crippled.

If this direction was unopposed, then choose another.

Zheng Qing hesitated not, turning the gun around, choosing a flank—the dead forest was so large, blasting any direction would carve a path.

But this time, before he could aim, his view once again showed the shadow of the Black Cat, still locked in combat with the tree monsters and colors.

The Warlock frowned, his face turning slightly grim.

Creatures surviving in The first University all possess keen instincts for danger, evidently, the owner of this dead forest realized the threat of the Charm Gun and found a way to counter it. But Zheng Qing couldn’t ascertain whether it was misleading his senses or conjuring an Illusory World before him.

Regardless, he couldn’t resolve it promptly.

Seeing the Warlock repeatedly change his aim yet remain unshot, Jiang Yu realized a change in situation, quietly inquiring, ”Is there a problem?”
