High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1655: Chapter 399: In the Forbidden Forest

”And just let them leave like that?”

”That’s not like you.”

A ’little witch’ standing barefoot, dressed in a slightly oversized robe, stood on the branch of a Return Soul Poplar, watching a Hunting Team dressed in Danghag uniforms slowly retreat with a mutated Houdou, and couldn’t help but glance at the female demon beside her.

Nikita, playing with a bracelet on her wrist made from the illusion of a Three-headed Black Flood Dragon, leaned against the tail end of the branch, her long legs relaxedly hanging down, her eyes on the surface of Silent River, somewhat lost in thought, not knowing what she was pondering.

Further in the distance, at the edge of the female demon’s sight, a monster legion emerging from Silent Forest and Dreamland was continuously charging towards the small town across the river.

There were Kappa, Strong Wind, Shatak Bird, Chimaera circling low, and Winged Tiger, Qiongqi, Gu Diao, Dang Kang running through the woods; there were powerful Mountain Giants, Two-headed Ogres, Giant Monsters, and Green Dragons, as well as weak Kappas and Water Monkeys; there were demon ghosts, Ghouls, Cold Spiders, Ancient Leather Giants that came via Dreamland; and even Heavenly Water Hydras, Color of Star, and Tingdalous Hunting Dogs falling from the starry sky, among others.

Colorful and diverse species.

Many of these magical creatures had undergone more than one mutation, like the mutated Houdou captured by the Danghag enforcement Hunting Team, which had grown three tails, two heads, and its eyes were almost silver-white, rather than the deep red of ordinary Houdou, spewing cold ice flames as it roared.

If it were still the witch studying at First University, Nikita would be so excited to see so many strange magical creatures that she wouldn’t sleep for a week.

But she wasn’t anymore.

She was now a crew member of the Mist Ship, a demon who had eaten wizard flesh.

Many thoughts in her mind made the young female demon uneasy; she seriously doubted whether that brief captivity experience had caused some trauma to her psyche, otherwise, her thoughts wouldn’t be so mixed.

So, until the little witch—who was actually Zhuzhu, the Faceless Demon in disguise—repeated her question for the second time, Nikita lazily raised her eyelids and indolently replied, ”My style? What is my style?”

The little female demon folded one arm across her chest and pinched her chin with the other, her eyes filled with contemplation. After a moment, she tentatively answered, ”Cautious? Unforgiving? Petty?”

Nikita shot Zhuzhu a glance.

”Do you really want to die that much?” Her voice remained languid, without any change in her eyes, yet it made the little witch beside her stiffen completely, not daring to move.

”You asked me to say it.” Zhuzhu pursed her lips, looking like she was about to cry.

Nikita didn’t believe a single tear of hers; everyone knew that the Faceless was a born imitator, trusting its tears was as foolish as believing demons don’t eat flesh.

But as a crew member of another ship, Nikita couldn’t actually bite this little creature to death.

She lazily yawned, her gaze moving back to the bracelet on her wrist: ”Mission first... No need to clash with those guys, we just need to drive them into Beta Town.”

”But those wizards look quite enticing.” The little female demon murmured, wistfully giving one last glance at the wizard hunters gradually disappearing at the forest edge.

Nikita paid no attention to Zhuzhu’s complaint; instead, she suddenly sat up, looking back vigilantly.

The little female demon immediately noticed.

”Those tails are following again?” Her tone had a hint of disbelief: ”How can they follow so closely! And how can the school allow them to run this far!”

”I don’t know.” Nikita replied succinctly, raising her hand to cast a Crushing Curse towards a large green stone near the Silent River bank, then clapped her hands, standing up from the branch: ”Time to move on...”

The large green stone was originally half submerged in the water and partially resting against the shore. After enduring the Crushing Curse, the part in the water was pulverized, leaving remnants on the bank, conspicuously easy to spot if one passed by this waterside.

Zhuzhu curiously took a few extra glances at the remains of that stone.

Then, watching Nikita’s departing figure, she hastily picked up the robe corner she almost stepped on and hurriedly chased after her. The robe corner fluttered, kicking up a fallen leaf on the branch.

The forest breeze carried away the conversation between the two female demons as they walked away:

”Why smash that stone?”

”I want others to help solve this problem.”

”Those tails? They’re so annoying, why don’t you bite them a couple of times? The captain says if you can’t beat your enemies, make them your friends... If everyone were demons, we could sit together and chat and play.”

”...I don’t want to risk getting shot for a few bites to eat.”

”You’re afraid of Zheng Qing?”

”No, I’m afraid of trouble.”

...

...

The sound of the wind gradually faded.

The female demons were already long gone.

Only that fallen leaf remained, swaying leisurely, drifting left and right in the air, slowly descending to the ground.

Moments later, just as the leaf was about to touch the ground, two slender fingers emerged from the air, catching the leaf.

In the air, a silhouette draped in a blue robe gradually appeared, kneeling on one knee, slightly bending forward, black curly hair, emerald eyes, white complexion, and well proportioned build.

It was a warlock.

He held the leaf between his fingers, his gaze alertly scanning left and right, as if every bush could produce a frenzied Zhu Yan.

Boom!

Bang bang!!

Accompanied by heavy, somewhat chaotic footsteps, several more figures followed, two tall and one short, two fat and one thin; it was Xiao Xiao and Zhang Ji Xin, accompanied by Xin Fat Man.

”Dylan, did you find anything?” Xiao Xiao asked the emerald-eyed warlock in a low voice, holding a piece of Turtle Shell.

”They’ve run away again.” Dylan slowly stood up, tossed the leaf to Xiao Xiao, and sighed lightly: ”I can confirm that they left less than five minutes ago... maybe even shorter.”

”Isn’t Nikita... huff huff... supposed to be a Witch Demon? Huff huff.” Xin Fat Man, hands on his knees, gasping for breath, looked bewildered: ”Why is she slipperier than a Snake Demon!”

”That Faceless Demon has been a snake before.” Zhang Ji Xin answered grimly, his forehead bearing the bruises from dropping into a pavilion from above, his eyes surrounded by noticeable dark circles—thanks to his elder brothers’ ’help,’ he’d have to bear this bruising and these dark circles for a while whenever he met others.

”Who still has an Armor Horse Charm?” Xin Fat Man, a bit relieved, looked around hopefully: ”A double Armor Horse would do... if no Armor Horse charms, a Cloud Climbing charm will work too!”

Several teammates shook their heads apologetically.

The Turtle Shell emitted a wisp of blue flame, as Xiao Xiao watched the leaf disappear in the flame, fingers swiftly calculating beneath the shell to determine the direction of the female demons’ escape.

The flames gradually extinguished, he sighed softly, shaking his head: ”Too little information, only the general direction... has Blue Bird tracked where they went?”
