High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1695: Chapter 439 Mimicry

The battle array is a common organizational form used by hunting teams during the hunt, evolved from ancient wizards’ magic formations.

The wizards in a hunting team or hunting group, through fixed positioning, hand gestures, magic artifacts, spells, and rituals, interlink the mana of several wizards, constructing an ’Ideal Magic Domain’ belonging to the wizards within a small space, also referred to as the ’array’ by the wizards.

The array will center around the hunting team, forming a faint magical ’envelope’, which will display different shapes depending on the battle array, such as flames, banners, or even some magical creatures.

In ancient times when wizards often interfered with the mortal world, generals on the battlefield would often judge the strength of the opposing forces from the ’envelope’ over the enemy army, serving as an important basis for deciding whether to engage.

Terms like ’air-swallowing mountains and rivers’, ’array horse windscreen’, ’kill, break, wolf’, all originated from this.

Within the envelope, the ’Ideal Magic Domain’ provides great benefits to the hunters, allowing it to bear larger magic loops and enhance the power of spells within the domain—such as summoning more magical creatures with a summoning spell, using escape techniques to move farther and faster, allowing wizards to recover from damage more easily, and accelerating mana recovery rates, etc.—at the same time, the ’Ideal Magic Domain’ can also isolate many basic curses, preventing damage to hunters within the domain range.

Of course, different battle arrays vary in effect due to differences in their construction methods.

For example, the Golden Lock Array and Sky Net Array, derived from ancient magic formations ’Eight Doors Golden Lock’ and ’Heaven Luo Ground Net’, are suitable for besieging enemies; the crescent array, which can connect to the power of the starry sky, is suited for two armies confronting each other; the Mandarin duck array comes in yin and yang formations, yang array is fit for frontal battles on open battlefields, yin array suits retreating and forest battles, and so on.

The Atonement Hunting Team often uses the triangular battle array, which is one of those all-around balanced ’jack-of-all-trades’ type of battle arrays, which can enhance the entire hunting team’s defense, speed of advance, and detection range when deployed, while also improving hunters’ wound recovery and spell power to a certain extent.

All the effects above belong to the ’Level 1 Battle Array Form’.

When the wizards constructing the battle array achieve higher levels of harmony, and possess more advanced magic skills and stronger mana, the array they form can adopt a second form—simulation.

The so-called ’simulation’ refers to the ’Ideal Magic Domain’ created by the battle array no longer being a vague envelope surrounding the battle array, but rather an existence with clearer magical shapes.

For example, entities like giants, flood dragons, poisonous horn beasts, hellhounds, etc.

The majority of hunting teams that can present a simulation will opt for magical creatures as simulation objects, after all, simulating a flag might look imposing, but it easily becomes a target on the battlefield, far less flexible than magical creatures.

Accompanied by the sound of bluebird heralds.

On the battlefield, after releasing a round of magic, the hunting teams belonging to the wizards retreat one after another, breaking contact with the demons and quickly constructing simulation battle arrays.

As the smoke clears and the demons plan to charge again with howling.

They suddenly discover that on the open ground below the Black Prison Castle’s walls, giants of varying heights from several to over ten meters have appeared unknowingly, and more giants are crawling out of the ground.

The rolling earth waves become their skin, the fiery magma their blood, and some reckless and brutal giants even rush into the prisoners’ hellish equations to grab the Eye of Sauron hanging on the pillars, placing it on their own faces.

”Father Bo!!”

”Bo! Father! Lineage!”

These giants chant vague slogans, wielding terrible wolf fang clubs, hammers, and swords, appearing extremely clumsy, yet their movements are extraordinarily agile.

Compared to the true forms of great wizards, these giants are slightly inferior in size, and their mana and defense do not reach the standards of great wizards, but compared to the wild giants jumping down from Leviathan, these simulated giants exceed in both strength and intensity by leaps and bounds, taking on ten is not an exaggeration.

Moreover, after owning a massive body, the elite hunting teams formed by registered wizards finally no longer cling on the true forms of great wizards like ’seal fish’ or ’rhinoceros birds’, they begin to collaborate with great wizards on the battlefield, possessing more tactical coordination abilities.

...

...

Although a large group of ’giants’ joined the battle, they were not the most striking existence on the battlefield.

The two suns overhead, the Leviathan breaking through the realm, the true forms of great wizards and great demons, each possesses a larger body.

Not to mention the near-legendary multiple-armed giant KOTOS propping against the outer fortress’s broken walls.

When Vice Principal Ruoyu and Dark Council Chairman’s aura vanished from the battlefield, the inner fortress of the Black Prison Castle seemed like a fruit stripped of its hard shell, revealing its enticing flesh.

”KOTOS!!”

The multiple-armed giant’s numerous heads rise simultaneously, issuing thunderous roars.

Along with its roar, the large willow tree suddenly raises tens of thick branches, twisting tight and taut, then its roots break off, and KOTOS’s dozens of arms scoop up those already transformed into javelins, lean back, and throw them.

Tens of thick javelins, wrapped in a faint layer of black magic flame, the tips flickering with chilling brilliance, shoot towards the inner fortress’s battlements.

Zheng Qing watches helplessly as the javelins fall like a sudden rain.

This is an all-out attack endured by top great wizards’ enchantments! Although still far away, the young wizard already feels almost suffocated, with the charm gun raised not knowing where to fire.

In an instant, a myriad of chaotic thoughts like ’to die without succeeding’, ’who will mourn after my death’, ’Poseidon doesn’t have a dad, what to do’, ’trying hard means no life’, ’the heart of divination is all dark’, and ’sir, save me’ floated through his mind.

In front, the black cat crouching on the battlements already arches its back, curls its tail, with pupils turned into slits, fixedly staring at those javelins rushing forward, growling threateningly from its throat.

Behind, Jiang Yu has already raised her hand, ready to crush the jade talisman in her palm, while Zhu Si clutches his head, screaming and hiding in the corner of the wall.

The Divination Team Leader still standing beside the young wizards raises his feather fan and places it on the witch’s hand.

”Don’t waste this amulet yet, I am still here, you won’t get hurt.”

While speaking, the diviner raises his fan, fanning several times at the javelins already shooting towards the battlements.

A wisp of breeze swirls upward, eroding flesh and bone, moments later, those dozens of large willow wood javelins turn into a puff of blue smoke in this breeze, without even leaving behind black ash.
