High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1657: Chapter 401: Not One Less

A moment later, the Fat Man couldn’t help but break the silence in the room.

”Would the Black Tide eruption be related to that incident in the Black Prison?”

Xin Fat Man cautiously looked around, lowered his voice, as if worried someone might eavesdrop: ”...Getting involved in this matter would certainly be very dangerous.”

”Of course,” Dylan seemed not to catch the critical part of Fat Man’s words, as he brushed off some dried grass from his blue robe and nonchalantly added, ”A bunch of first-year students who aren’t even registered wizards trying to capture the demon with the arrest warrant is undoubtedly a very dangerous thing... Especially under these circumstances, the school guardian array can’t help us much.”

Despite saying this, Mr. Blood Werewolf’s face didn’t show much fear; he seemed rather pleased, which left Fat Man unsure of his meaning and momentarily speechless.

In comparison, the captain of this temporary hunting team was much less courteous.

”Danger, danger, danger!”

Zhang Ji Xin seemed frustrated with his companions’ lack of confidence, his tone gaining severity: ”Hunting has never been a safe game! If anyone has that ridiculous notion, tell me early, and I’ll take charge and let him withdraw from this action!”

Dylan stood behind the red-faced male wizard and secretly made a funny face at Fat Man.

Fat Man’s cheeks flushed slightly.

”That’s not quite what I meant,” he muttered, but couldn’t help rebutting, ”But Dylan makes sense... Previously, in the Dreamland, we were taken down in seconds by that little witch, and now we deliver ourselves... Even if we catch Nikita’s tail, she’d pin us down and beat us. Moreover, she likely has a bunch of helpers.”

Even Zhang Ji Xin couldn’t refute this blunt truth.

”Don’t overthink it,” Xiao Xiao seemed to notice his companions’ quiet argument just then, shifted his gaze from the crystal ball in his hand, still showing some emptiness from divination: ”This is Buji Island, the wizard’s turf, not Dreamland. We don’t need to tangle with her; just hand it over to the school after capturing her trail... Sima told me that Danghag’s law enforcement team is near the school... The Great Sage of Northern District Wizard will be happy to block the source of the Black Tide.”

”We also need to believe in ourselves!” Zhang Ji Xin patted his pocket, half reassuring, half boasting: ”Before setting out this time, I rummaged through my bottom box and brought a few jade talismans, sealed with the old man’s shadow inside... I was careless in Dreamland and let that little witch catch the flaw; this time, if she dares to appear in front of me, at least I’ll give her a permanent injury!”

Such words were full of vigor, quite uplifting.

”So,” Xiao Xiao aptly concluded, ”our only goal now is to catch Nikita...”

Before the words finished, a blue paper crane abruptly appeared before the diviner’s nose, flapping its wings, with a calm and brief voice from the absolution hunting team hunter coming from its slender paper beak:

”There’s a clue by the lake!”

The four young wizards exchanged glances, Zhang Ji Xin quickly made several gestures, and several figures instantly vanished from their original spot.

Moments later.

A dozen meters away from the Return Soul Poplar, beside a bush.

Xiao Xiao was on one knee, carefully handling a dead mouse with a small silver knife in his hand, the sound of Silent River’s water behind him, and an awkward Blue Bird in front.

”...Originally, I was just pressing its tail with the sword sheath tip to prevent it from escaping.” Given the circumstances, Blue Bird rarely explained seriously: ”But after I sent you the paper crane, this mouse suddenly went berserk, bit off its own tail... Then I accidentally touched its back neck with my sword tip.”

”Mouse necks are very fragile, that’s not your fault.” Zhang Ji Xin comfortingly patted the hunter’s shoulder.

”These are probably the talking mice from the school’s underground,” Xin Fat Man examined the cut red vest Xiao Xiao had just sliced with interest: ”I remember they were all hiding during this period... How did it end up here?”

”D&K also hired a couple, didn’t they?” Zhang Ji Xin pinched his chin, his eyes showing rare sharpness: ”I remember their names were something Ears?”

”Dangdang Ear and Ding Dong Ear.” Dylan promptly added: ”I heard Brother Qing mentioned, it seems a cat was bothering the Rat Immortal, so they all ran away... No idea why they ended up here.”

Xiao Xiao eventually didn’t dissect the dead mouse’s belly.

He looked up at the swordsman in front: ”What clue did you mention just now?”

Blue Bird pointed not far away: ”There.”

Behind the bush was the flowing water of Silent River, near the shore lay a broken large bluestone, reclining obliquely in the water, with an inconspicuous yet distinct magical trace on it.

Xiao Xiao easily discerned that it was Nikita’s magic.

Blue Bird briefly explained: ”During my hunt, I discovered this stone. Upon exploring, the mouse crawled out from under the stone, so I controlled it...”

Xiao Xiao frowned, extended a finger, stirred the water, seemingly wanting to touch the large bluestone up close, then very suddenly, his expression became somewhat stiff.

”There’s good news and bad news.”

The absolution diviner tugged his mouth, showing an awkward smile to his teammates: ”The good news is, we don’t need to worry about being beaten by Nikita.”

Then he fell silent.

”What’s the bad news?” Xin Fat Man couldn’t resist asking.

Xiao Xiao sighed, added quietly: ”The bad news is, we’ve stirred other trouble... Big trouble.”

Whoa!!

The river water suddenly lifted several meters of spray, and several thick, slippery tails sprang from the water, quickly sweeping up the startled young hunters, dragging them into the river.

As the splashes fell, the ripples on the river surface gradually dissipated.

After a while, a slim tail slithered ashore like a water snake, rolled up the dead mouse and the shredded red vest, and slowly submerged into the water.

The forest and water surface returned to their usual tranquility, as if nothing had happened.

In the distance, atop the continuously quiet Return Soul Poplar.

Nikita and the barefoot little witch’s figures reappeared among the branches.

”Finally sent them away.” The little demon sighed heavily, her tone containing a hint of reluctance.

Nikita glanced askance at her: ”You should leave too.”

The little demon clenched her fists, raised them in front of her chest, eyes gleaming, looked at Nikita: ”Can’t you wait a little longer...”

Nikita rolled her eyes somewhat helplessly: ”You’re just a shadow of Dao, not real... Only a few hours old, what is there that’s so hard to let go?”

”Then why did you make me born?”

”To prevent those little guys from discovering you’re not beside me... She’s quite bold, daring to sneak into the school again, not afraid of being caught and skinned.”

”Couldn’t I stay a bit longer?”

Nikita stared at the little demon, pondered briefly.

”I’m probably really schizophrenic.” She muttered, raised her hand, casually waved it, the little witch before her vanished like soap bubbles, leaving only starlight, resembling fireflies in the evening forest.

The demon wristband wriggled, raised its three chopstick-sized heads, swaying left and right, hissing: ”Why did you conjure this little fellow... It’s completely unnecessary to be so troublesome.”

Nikita lowered her eyelids, glanced at the broken part of the bracelet, snorted lightly: ”Shut up.”

The three-headed black flood dragon obediently reverted into a bracelet.

The demon narrowed her eyes, glanced at the bluestone by the riverbank, lifted her leg, jumped down from the Return Soul Poplar. When she landed, Nikita had already disappeared, and Zhou returned to the world.

The little witch raised her hand, carefully scrutinized the bracelet, eventually shook her head: ”So ugly.”
