High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1659: Chapter 403 Observer

Xiao Xiao opened his eyes.

In his view, there were two mice dressed in clothes. The shorter, tawny hamster had a curious look, while the plump, tall Rat Immortal had a scrutinizing gaze.

And the owner of the Wandering Bar was watching him with a smile.

Outside of his sight, the orange sunlight slantedly painted a perilous peak opposite him, its waist surrounded by mist, and the peak topped with a giant’s skeleton.

At this moment, the giant tilted its head, looking at him curiously, with two red glows flickering softly in its enormous skull’s eye sockets.

The small warlock took a gentle breath of the cold air, forcing himself to look away.

”You also said it was an accident.”

The young wizard sat up, pulled out his black notebook from his pocket, cautiously withdrew his gaze, only focusing on the small patch of cold, bare rock under his feet, his tone very calm: ”I can extract my memory from this period... It won’t cause you any trouble.”

The Wandering Wizard said nothing, smiling as he watched the short warlock.

Xiao Xiao felt his lips a bit dry and quietly swallowed his saliva.

”...I can also help you modify the memories of those others, ensuring that it’s all just an accident.” He touched the black notebook in his hand and softly repeated: ”It really was an accident... We mistakenly entered a natural maze while hunting Nikita, with me confirming by the side, this reason is very sufficient. They won’t suspect a thing.”

The ’they’ in Xiao Xiao’s mouth referred to Zhang Ji Xin and the others.

The two mice still said nothing.

It was instead the owner of the Wandering Bar who snapped his fingers, handing the young warlock a cup of rich Amber Light: ”Not sleeping anymore? I saw you pretending to sleep quite comfortably just now.”

”You knew I was pretending to sleep?” Xiao Xiao was a bit miffed about this, adjusting his glasses and glancing at the Wandering Wizard: ”I really won’t cause trouble, really...”

”Of course, I’m also quite sure of that.” The Wandering Wizard leaned down, patting his shoulder kindly: ”Observers, you see, always ’watch the game without speaking’, maintaining absolute neutrality... Remember the first time we met at the Wandering Bar?”

Xiao Xiao slowly came to his senses.

If these Big Wizards truly wanted to sacrifice him to that existence named ’Giant Zero Three’, they wouldn’t need to say so in his ear; they had a hundred ways to do it silenty.

Since they said it by his ear, does it mean they were just trying to scare him?

With this understanding, the heart Xiao Xiao just mentioned tight in his throat slowly eased back, and he also recalled last year’s meeting with the Elder Wizard in the Wandering Bar’s upstairs box with Zheng Qing, remembering something the Wandering Wizard had once said.

”Hiss,” the young wizard felt he accidentally bit his tongue, but he endured the pain and looked again at the Elder Wizard beside him: ”Do you know my father?”

”He was much more active than you.” The Wandering Wizard raised his cup, tapping the rim of the young warlock’s glass solemnly, with a bit of reminiscence in his tone: ”Back then he had connections with over half the guests in the Wandering Bar... Maybe that’s a sort of talent; your family can always appear in the most complex places of causal entanglement in the Wizard World.”

Xiao Xiao muttered a few words under his breath, seemingly complaining, or perhaps sighing, then opened the black notebook, scribbling down a few notes.

”Is he the heir of this generation of the Observer lineage?” Fei Rui stood on tiptoe, whispering in the Rat Immortal’s ear: ”I heard their family is quite wicked, appearing always ends up with death...”

”You’re a mouse, so you don’t have to worry about that.” The Rat Immortal pushed the sticky little hamster away.

Xiao Xiao’s ears twitched slightly.

”The rumors are inaccurate.” He lifted his head, earnestly correcting them as he looked at the two mice: ”I’ve been at school for nearly a year, and no one has died... It’s just that according to family requirements, we observe many details up close at historical nodes, and most historical nodes indeed always have one form or another of accidental death... That’s why I hate this job.”

Saying so, he sighed heavily.

”Ahem ahem,” the Wandering Wizard coughed lightly, quietly reminding: ”The student induction flight, the steward, hmm. Of course, we all know that’s not your fault.”

Xiao Xiao’s face instantly darkened.

He was just mindful that no one had died in his time at school this year, forgetting entirely about the steward who met an untimely end on the induction flight. This made him grumble even more about Nikita.

Fei Rui shifted his backside uneasily.

”So,” he sidled back up to the Rat Immortal’s ear, quietly muttering: ”Do we still hold on to these little guys? They’re all trouble... Just watching gives me a headache.”

”You’re a mouse, not a person.” The Rat Immortal corrected, pushing the little hamster away again: ”Don’t worry about those details.”

The Wandering Wizard lifted the brim of his pointed wizard hat slightly, glancing at Fei Rui and softly said: ”Don’t you understand yet? Their presence here already speaks volumes... To surpass the shackles of the Big Wizards, we must learn to set our sights broader.”

The Rat Immortal frowned slightly: ”You want to bring them into Black Prison?”

”Maybe they’re the key we need to leave Black Prison.” The Wandering Wizard gave the young wizards a meaningful look, and the Rat Immortal sighed gently, saying nothing more.

Realizing that leaving safely was impossible, Xiao Xiao simply gave up, holding up the black notebook, transforming into a diligent investigative journalist.

”What is Giant Zero Three?”

”That giant skeleton over there... its name.”

”Why is it called ’Giant Zero Three’?”

”Giant, meaning the epitome of large. It signifies that the giant skeleton’s tier has reached the limit of a Big Wizard, only a step away from the Legend.”

”Truly impressive... Since you have such powerful techniques, why not trade with the Alliance? I believe mass-produced ’giant’ wizards could easily exchange a few Xuanhuang Fruits from the school.”

”This was originally a forbidden technique sealed by the Alliance, and it can’t be mass-produced... Besides, you know about the Xuanhuang Fruit too?” Fei Rui looked irritably at the Rat Immortal, then at the Wandering Wizard: ”Even a first-year kid knows... Who else doesn’t?!”

”He’s not an ordinary first-year student.” The Wandering Wizard extended a finger, pressing reassuringly on the crown of Fei Rui’s head: ”There’s a very limited number of students who know about this... Hmm, the newly promoted Big Wizard in the North District also knows, right.”

”Korma?” The Rat Immortal pinched his whiskers and nodded: ”I told her... But she’s already a Big Wizard, she knows what to say, and what not to tell. She chose not to participate in our plans, so she will naturally remain neutral.”

”The dark tide stirred by the Mist Captain is enough to keep her busy until this affair is concluded.” The Wandering Wizard nodded.

Xiao Xiao didn’t have time to ask new questions, he just kept his head down, clutching the feather pen, and scribbling down these rare-to-hear secret messages in the black notebook.
