Chapter 1641: After modification: Chapter 385 After the Thunder

”Crack!”

”Rumble!”

Behind the pitch-black clouds, the deep thunder echoed continuously, sweeping away the original deathly silence of the Black Prison World, and over time, the thunder not only did not diminish but became more frequent. However, the sound grew more distant, and by the time it reached Zheng Qing’s ears, it was already muffled and unclear.

But the young scholarship student’s attention was not on the thunder at the moment.

He was turning his face, surprisingly examining the tiny black cat the size of a fist on his shoulder.

Red pupils, jet-black short fur, lazy demeanor.

Aside from its size, it was identical to the black cat singing with its tail up several miles away, even the aura on its body was indistinguishable—perhaps that was why it hadn’t triggered the instinctive caution of the two young wizards.

Noticing the warlock’s dazed expression.

The small black cat stopped licking its paws, tilted the raised paw in the air, pointing forward: ”Don’t look at me, look at the road! Look ahead...do you want to fall into a ditch?!”

Zheng Qing swallowed, silently retracting his gaze and refocusing part of his attention on the road.

In the distance, under the center of ’Little Star’s’ light, the big black cat continued to howl an unknown tune, with its tail raised, guiding everyone.

Further away, the hunched Old Witch Demon extended its neck, sniffing the bark of a dead old tree by the roadside, not clear whether it was drooling over the dry fibers or determining the group’s direction.

Jiang Yu, with a hand on the jade pendant at her waist and another holding the law book, glanced at the small black cat and smiled slightly: ”We thought you were still leading ahead... is this an avatar?”

”Incarnation!”

The black cat corrected the witch’s term, showing a familiar arrogant expression to Zheng Qing: ”But I’m the main body; the one ahead is the incarnation...”

As it spoke, its small tail swayed left and right, then up and down.

In the distance, the big black cat’s erect tail moved similarly, as if drawing a cross in the air.

The two young wizards simultaneously sighed in relief.

”You don’t look that dumb.”

The black cat continued to critique in its slightly sharp tone, then suddenly shifted the topic, asking: ”So do I look dumb exposing myself, leading you, risking attacks at any moment... I’m not that one, under prohibition with brain matter almost drained in the Black Prison... I’m a formally registered employee in the ’relevant department’!”

”One cannon fodder is enough.”

”However,” Zheng Qing interrupted the black cat, cautiously reminding: ”We still need it as a guide.”

The black cat rolled its eyes, full of disdain: ”Smart earlier, now dumb again... remember the light seen on the mountain top? As long as we follow its direction without stopping, hesitating, or fighting much, we’ll eventually reach the Black Prison Castle.”

On this point, Zheng Qing had no doubt.

But isn’t the guide’s role to erase the ’eventually’ in ’eventually’, avoiding unnecessary trouble? Zheng Qing muttered quietly in his heart.

Choosing to keep the Old Witch Demon was because Zheng Qing worried about unexpected encounters impeding the two witches’ return to school.

The Black Prison World wasn’t a kind place; as magic power is slowly sapped, wizards grow weaker, eventually harming their essence.

Like a tree infested with pests.

The longer it takes, the greater the harm.

”And then?!”

Zhu Si again tugged on Jiang Yu’s sleeve, sounding a bit annoyed: ”How did the topic stray again? What else did that ’Yagneg’ say?”

The little witch was still hung up on the prophecy mentioned earlier.

”What it said isn’t important; what’s important is the fact proved its prophecy wasn’t that accurate.” The witch comfortingly smoothed Zhu Si’s hair, explaining:

”The prophecy was actually in two parts; we paid twice—first time it said ’no place safer than Buji Island’; second time it said ’castles and walls can’t protect us’ ’escape quickly’ and so on... such obviously contradictory statements, only the Fishman’s totem would make.”

”But you seemed to believe it at the time.” The black cat tilted its head, reminding with great interest.

”That’s because its divination had its merits.” Zheng Qing shook his shoulder, signaling the black cat to quiet down: ”For instance, its depictions of the Outer God, reminders to me, and what you just mentioned about the White Tower and so forth... it’s not entirely a scam, just limited in abilities.”

”So, a so-called prophecy is merely a wizard’s excuse to find peace in mind.” The black cat pouted, resuming paw licking.

Zheng Qing couldn’t imagine himself as a cat behaving this way.

But watching the black cat’s actions, he felt like he was looking into a mirror.

He forced himself to glance away, muttering: ”Speaking of... how do you know about the prophecy we made at ’Quanke comes’? Does the relevant department care about such trifles?”

”Matters related to ’relevant things’, none are ’trifles’.” The black cat glanced at the young wizard meaningfully.

Jiang Yu was fixing a butterfly hairclip on Zhu Si, using it to distract the little witch from complaining, apparently not hearing Zheng Qing’s conversation with the black cat.

Yet Zheng Qing still felt inexplicably guilty, subconsciously looking up at the sky.

Behind the dark, low clouds, the thunder still rumbled endlessly.

”Is it thundering in the Black Prison?” he laughed dryly, trying to change the topic: ”Sounds lively... is rain coming?”

”Yagneg’s prophecy did mention thunder,” Jiang Yu chimed in with a smile: ”But I doubt it can predict occurrences in the Black Prison World... more likely coincidental.”

This was intended as mere casual talk during a pause in the topic.

Zheng Qing wasn’t expecting profound insights, at most the black cat and the two would collectively mock the absurdity of the Fishman Tribe’s totem prophecy.

But this time, the black cat gave Zheng Qing a surprisingly unexpected answer:

”Thunder? No, that’s not thunder... that’s the sound when the demon army breaks through the world’s fetal membrane, shattering the crystal wall protecting the Black Prison.”

”Demon army?!”

”The Black Prison World’s crystal wall shattered!”

Zheng Qing and Jiang Yu simultaneously gasped, staring upwards at the boundless darkness, as if by widening their eyes, they’d discern something from the shadows.

But no matter their sore eyes, they didn’t perceive any demonic aura leaking from behind the clouds.

”If the sky falls, those legendary wizards will hold it up,” the small black cat hooked Zheng Qing’s ear with its tail, gently patting to comfort: ”We can’t do anything... the only thing we can do is hurry, sneak back to Buji Island before the fiercest battle erupts.”
