High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1635: Chapter 379: Towards the Light

Clip-clop, clip-clop.

The small black mountain goat walked out from the depths of the shadowy valley where Zheng Qing and others were, swaggering leisurely as if strolling through the busiest commercial street of Four Seasons Pavilion.

Behind it trailed a dense night, spreading out funnel-shaped as if a massive black cloak, adding an extra layer of deep darkness to the already dim moonlight.

Clip-clop, clip-clop.

The sound of hooves clashing with gravel became the only sound in the world at this moment—lightning hidden behind clouds, the dull bubbling of lava in distant pits within the mountains, the desperate roars of Shub-Niggurath’s fully altered followers struggling, the urgent whistles of the Kunpeng Hunting Team hunters, and the intense turning of the mechanism amulet cannon in the dwarf’s arms, etc.—none managed to suppress the tiny, steady hoof sounds of the little mountain goat.

Clip-clop, clip-clop.

The little black mountain goat held its head high, strutting slowly past the young wizards. Despite the seemingly slow pace, it had already traversed the length of the valley in just a few steps, reaching the edge of the pit flowing with crimson lava and emerald blood.

The black cat retracted its tail, crouching down, with an unpleasant look as it watched the goat’s retreating back.

The astonishment on Zheng Qing and Jiang Yu’s faces had yet to fade.

The Spirit Witch of the Kunpeng Hunting Team, hidden under the cloak, was now curled up, trembling, looking like a quivering rock from afar.

The other hunters of the Kunpeng Hunting Team had already reshuffled their battle formation, preparing to face this unfamiliar black mountain goat. Yet, the unsolicited guest didn’t spare them a glance, only focusing on the massive clump bound by rays of light.

”Hiss... Shub-Niggurath!!”

The enormous clump suddenly grew several gigantic mouths, with green mucus dripping from the corners, sharp teeth gleaming brutally under the moonlight, dark green coils writhing as they spew out anger-laden roars:

”Profane the glory of the Mother God... damned rebel!!”

”You will be cast into an abyss of blazing fire and ice, never to transcend!”

”Shub-Niggurath!!”

”In Your name, Your glory, Your greatness!”

”Curse this damned rebel!”

”Let it eternally starve, chaos engulfed, left foot trod on nails, right foot in beast traps, ears and nose gnawed by insect beasts, teeth shattered and falling, skin charred, flesh rotten, bones crushed, hooves pierced! Let regretful blood tears fall from its eyes!”

”This damned rebel!”

The little black mountain goat tilted its head, patiently waiting for a while, but aside from loudly chanting the true name of the dark mother and cursing the rebel, the tree-like mass made no other moves.

It seemed slightly bored.

Just then, a black whip-like tentacle emerged from the crevice like a venomous snake, rolling and snaking to the foot of the little black mountain goat. This was the piece sliced off from a young black mountain goat by a swordsman from the Kunpeng Hunting Team during the battle with Nicolas’s followers.

The little black mountain goat showed a hint of curiosity in its eyes, lowered its head to study the rolling black whip-like tentacle. After a while, it lowered its head again to bite one end, meticulously gnawing.

As if nibbling grass, starting from the tip of the blade and moving down to the root.

Not even a trace of blood was left.

Nearby, the tightly bound massive clump let out continuous, lingering shrieks, seeming as though even its detached tentacles were biting down ruthlessly by the little goat, still causing it immense pain.

Realizing the two monsters in front of them were possibly not allies, the hunters of the Kunpeng Hunting Team didn’t immediately make a move, instead cautiously retreating even further.

Their previous adventure in the Land of Desolation had given them a very clear understanding of the gap between themselves and the Big Wizard.

Though small in stature, the little mountain goat carried a pressure no less daunting than that experienced in the Land of Desolation, faced with Ulrich the elder and Mist Captain.

After devouring that tentacle, the little black mountain goat silently took a step forward, appearing before a puddle of emerald liquid. This was the fluid that had leaked from the massive clump.

It extended its tongue, lightly lapping, then nodded in satisfaction, sipping with quiet slurps.

The bound Outer God’s followers became even angrier, their cries growing sharper.

The piercing sound waves stabbed at the listeners’ eardrums, seeming also to tear through the heavy clouds above.

Crack!!

A bolt of white lightning pierced through the cloud gaps, descending from the sky, striking the ground between the massive clump and the little black mountain goat, blasting a spray of fine gravel like hail, pattering down everywhere.

Some even fell at Zheng Qing’s feet.

A moment later, the dust settled, revealing five figures cloaked in black at the struck spot, all holding law books, forming a battle array, surrounded by immense magical power, ready to attack.

Zheng Qing paused for a few seconds, suddenly widening his eyes.

Because he saw familiar faces among those figures—Thomas, Hilda, Zhang Yu, and a few other teaching assistants, though he couldn’t recall their names, he had seen them several times during orientation and around campus, and had even exchanged greetings.

”Teaching assistants!!” The excited young cost student waved his arms, calling out: ”Teaching assistants, we’re here!! Did you come looking for us?”

Fortunately, he moderated his voice, not calling out the teaching assistants’ names in front of the little black mountain goat—although Zheng Qing only knew some of the assistants’ names, any small oversight could be turned into a powerful weapon by the Big Wizards.

Hilda quickly noticed the lively young cost student from afar.

The corner of his mouth twitched, causing the copper ring under his lip to shake slightly.

”Seeing him here, I feel not the least surprised.”

The Astronomy Class 08-1 practice teacher openly expressed his desire to complain: ”The trouble he causes alone exceeds that of the entire Starry Sky Academy! Did you anticipate such a scenario when you brought him to the school?”

He directed his latter question at Thomas.

”No,” Thomas pulled the corners of his lips, revealing a slight wry smile: ”When guiding him to Four Seasons Pavilion back then, he was still a shy little boy.”

”I like shy little boys.” The purple-haired witch next to him chuckled sweetly.

”Quiet!” The acting leader of the assistant team warned his companions in a low voice, eyes fixed on the petite black mountain goat nearby: ”We’re in big trouble... get those kids out of here.”

Thomas, without another word, quickly formed a hand jue with his left hand, a flick and a sweep, amidst faint magical fluctuations, a blue paper crane dashed out from his fingertips, vanishing into the sky.

Moments later, the paper crane appeared before Zheng Qing.

”Leave this place!” The paper crane opened its tiny sharp beak, yet emitted Thomas’s clear voice: ”... Cross over that mountain range, then head toward the light, and keep moving forward!”
