High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1640: Chapter 384 The Thunder that Echoes Behind the Clouds

”The distant return to home.”

Jiang Yu patted Zhu Si’s head, her expression somewhat complex, and said softly, ”You have indeed been far away from home... and for a long time. Welcome back.”

Zhu Si looked up, made a funny face, and said with a grin, ”But no sooner have I caught my breath after returning home, than I followed you all into a new, dark world. I’m not sure which is farther from home, this place or Dreamland.”

Just as she finished, she snapped her fingers and corrected herself, ”Well... although I’m not out of breath now.”

Another cold joke.

Zheng Qing found it difficult to find the right expression to face this optimistic little witch.

He could only mumble as he continued to analyze the prophecy: ”’The threads of destiny intertwine, all beings return to their place, the starry sky’s return to the starry sky, ... the confrontation of adversaries, blood all around,’ it should refer to this battle erupting in the Black Prison, involving wizards, demons, and Outer Gods...”

”Possibly some Black Wizards as well.”

Jiang Yu thought of the letter from home mentioning the increasingly active Dark Council lately, and immediately added, ”Usually, they hide deeper than mice, but if Buji Island really becomes chaotic, they would be the first to come out and cause trouble.”

”Yes, and Black Wizards too.”

Zheng Qing nodded, recalling the six-fingered giant hand he faced in the Sandbox Mini World during last year’s Winter Hunting, which was a Black Wizard.

Mentioning Black Wizards, he couldn’t help but think of the owner of the Beta Town Wandering Bar, the tall, thin elder wizard rumored to be a Black Wizard. And then there were Fei Rui and the Rat Immortal, the mice under the school seemed to have some restless ideas as well.

”Too chaotic.”

The young wizard was not adept at this kind of meticulous thinking, and these thoughts briefly flashed in his mind before he shook his head and decisively dismissed them.

Now was not the time to play Conan or Holmes.

”You think it’s chaotic because the prophecy given by the gentleman is too vague,” Jiang Yu smiled slightly, patiently explaining, ”Many old-school diviners have this habit of not speaking fully to avoid ’disasters come from the mouth,’ to avoid their prophecies causing disturbances to destiny... However, many wizards who make a living from divination no longer have these taboos, perhaps they have too many debts to worry, too many lice to itch. Do you remember the time we went to Quanke comes?”

”The time invited by Professor Garcia?”

Zheng Qing had a deep impression of the school’s only Fishman Language professor. After a moment of recollection, he nodded and said, ”Of course, I remember, it was my first time entering a market started by the Fishmen... It was also my first time seeing Fishmen from outside, but they looked more cunning than their kin in Lin Zhong Lake.”

Zheng Qing recalled the small Fishmen singing hymns in unison and couldn’t help but smile.

”The totem named ’Yagneg,’ was carefree when making prophecies.” While speaking, the first Herbs candle had already burned out. Jiang Yu didn’t immediately take out a second one but performed magic to confine the smoke left from the remaining embers of the candle: ”... Well, these smoke can also obscure our presence, slightly extending the effect of the Herbs candle.”

Zheng Qing took out the pocket watch with one hand and checked the time.

”Forty-five minutes, less than a half-hour.” He sighed lightly, looking down at the gravel-strewn desolate land beneath his feet, and stomped twice forcefully: ”... The environment of the Black Prison is really too harsh.”

From the start until now, with the help of Armor Horse Charm and other talismans, the group had traveled nearly a hundred miles, but a while ago, after passing a small mountain pass, Zheng Qing looked into the distance, and the light point at the end of the darkness seemed to have hardly changed, while the sky and earth, the mountains, and surroundings were all engulfed, the boundless darkness seemed even denser than when they started.

This oppressive feeling brought by darkness was also one of the reasons the black cat started singing, and Zheng Qing and Jiang Yu found topics to chat about.

They had to do something to resist the invisible pressure brought by darkness.

Using vitality to combat dead silence.

”Crack!!”

”Rumble!”

Suddenly, a ripping sound erupted from behind the thick clouds overhead, followed by endless thunder, rumbling, rumbling, gradually fading away.

Zheng Qing looked up at the pitch-black night sky, with a hint of confusion in his eyes.

The Black Prison World didn’t seem like a place where it would rain, and he didn’t feel a trace of magical fluctuations from a thunder spell in the air. So what was the reason for the thunder behind the clouds?

Could it be that powerful wizards were fighting behind the clouds?

Or were they experimenting with some new terrifying magic?

Jiang Yu might have had a similar confusion, also looking up at the heavy black clouds for quite a while before hesitantly saying, ”Do you think... those clouds seem to have gotten a bit lower?”

Zheng Qing rubbed his sore neck and shook his head.

”Can’t tell.”

”I can’t tell either!” Zhu Si tugged on Jiang Yu’s sleeve, her tone a bit anxious: ”And then? ’Yagneg’ made a prophecy for you guys, and then? What else did it say? Was it interesting?”

Previously, the little witch listened with great interest when the two young wizards discussed the prophecy.

But halfway through, Zheng Qing and Jiang Yu’s topic unknowingly shifted, from prophecy to the harsh environment of the Black Prison, and then to those thunders in the sky.

To be honest, Zhu Si didn’t find thunder particularly fascinating.

In Dreamland, there were thunders that sounded like cow mooing, like roosters crowing, or like a hundred birds greeting the phoenix, did she say anything? Compared to thunder, she preferred listening to the prophecies made by diviners.

Perhaps in her eyes, prophecies, like fairy tales, are just some interesting stories.

”A lot.”

Zheng Qing appeased the little witch, smoothing her hair while furrowing his brows, trying hard to search through memories that seemed long ago, and said slowly:

”It said there were evil gazes watching the earth, massive meat chunks, many tentacles, and a big mouth dripping with mucus... I guess it was referring to Shub-Niggurath, at least, we have already seen two of His followers.”

”It also said Buji Island was the safest... which I doubt. I was sucked into the Black Prison by a black moon in the safest school on the island.”

”So, the more detailed the prophecy, the greater the possibility of errors.”

Jiang Yu smiled and picked up the conversation: ”And profit-oriented divination, even if somewhat accurate, tends to exaggerate to extract more benefits from the seekers of divination. I remember that ’Yagneg’ claimed ’rivers would dry up, forests would burn, castles couldn’t protect us,’ and so on...”

”But what it said about ’the White Tower being shattered’ turned out to be true.”

An abrupt voice suddenly sounded by the two young wizards’ ears, startling them.

Zheng Qing turned around quickly and found a fist-sized black cat had somehow perched on his shoulder, lazily licking its paw.
