High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1607: Chapter 351: Within the Black Moon

The escape of the female demon caused only minor ripples in the sky above Lin Zhong Lake.

Besides a fierce glare from Zheng Qing at her retreating figure, there wasn’t much attention from the others by the lakeside. Even Master Baoyangzi, who had the power to stop her, merely lifted an eyelid, gave them a glance, and casually threw a warding spell that nailed the tail of the Three-headed Black Flood Dragon.

The Black Flood Dragon let out a wretched cry, flesh and blood flying from its tail.

Originally tangled in the tail, the young female demon tumbled down from mid-air, fell into Lin Zhong Lake, and splashed up a small circle of water. Nikita and the head of the Black Flood Dragon did not dare to look back, instead, they sped up, fleeing in panic, and vanished in a blink into the depths of the Silent Forest.

Master Baoyangzi had no intention to get up and pursue them.

One must admit, Nikita’s instinct for survival was unparalleled, and she chose the perfect moment to escape.

To all the faculty and students currently stuck at the First University, the escape of the two female demons was merely a minor sore—moreover, their place of escape, the Silent Forest, was essentially the backyard of the First University—the real heart of the problem for the school now was that ’Black Moon’ hanging obliquely in mid-air.

...

Zheng Qing still clearly remembered, during last year’s Big Snow solar term, the school was covered in a heavy fall of snow, and he strolled with Elena in the snow and shared a kiss by the lake.

Snowflakes withered away, the beloved had passed, leaving only the scent behind.

On that same day, also by the banks near Lin Zhong Lake, the two of them witnessed the seven-story small tower on Lake Heart Island glowing like a neon light in the world of white, feeling the startling magic fluctuation bursting out from the small tower. The Gypsy witch at the time fainted straight away, and Zheng Qing too was pressed into the snow by the immense pressure, unable to move.

It was also that day, through hints and implications, he vaguely guessed that the sayings about the small tower on Lake Heart Island floating around campus were not baseless.

For instance, that small tower was one of the nodes of the student guardian array.

For instance, that small tower was one of the entrances to the Black Prison.

...

Now, the guardian array had collapsed, the ’gate’ of the Black Prison’s entrance—namely that small tower—was shattered. The Black Prison, spoken of among wizards and demons but rarely seen by any eye, was slowly unveiling its veil, showing a corner of its mysterious face.

The sun shone high and bright behind the broken clouds.

The Black Moon was deep and serene, sitting silently at the center of the vortex.

As the vortex slowly extended to encompass the entire Lin Zhong Lake, the immense suction also descended along with it. At first, it was just some gravel and grass leaves getting drawn into the Black Moon; gradually, dry twigs, pebbles, a twin-tailed squirrel clutching acorns, a tree protection pot hiding in the grass—more and more larger objects were struggling, flying towards the Black Moon.

Zheng Qing initially thought the force lifting his clothes was the wind, the eerie wind blowing from the depths of the Silent Forest into the campus after the school guardian array collapsed.

But soon.

When an Irish Divination Bird, frail and resembling a bare vulture, flapped its wings and screeched, flying backward in a manner that was neither magical nor scientific past his eyes, the young cost-student jolted awake from his worries, realizing that the Black Moon was far more dangerous than he imagined.

Recognizing the danger of the Black Moon earlier than the young cost-student were some related personnel like Master Baoyangzi, Professor Garcia escaping Lin Zhong Lake with the Fishman Tribe, Augustus and Lei Zhe from the student council, and other faculty members by the shore—all these experienced wizards with potent magic power could do no more than Zheng Qing.

They merely cleared the students spectating by the lake a few minutes in advance and cooperated to cast binding spells, preventing more things from falling into the Black Moon.

But it was like the coming of a tsunami.

When the murky seawater flooded over your feet, realizing the tide was rising would already be too late. The surging tall water wall would engulf over the dam in an instant, swallowing everything in sight.

Especially for Zheng Qing.

He was in mid-air, with nothing around to leverage, and very close to that Black Moon.

The attraction from the center of the vortex was like dense, firm threads falling from the Black Moon, entwining around every corner of the warlock’s body, dragging him towards the pitch-black.

Zheng Qing struggled in panic, trying to retrieve a few Tai Shan talismans from his pocket and press them onto himself, but the pale yellow talisman paper was shredded to pieces by the omnipresent pull as soon as it left his hand.

The young cost-student only had time to shout downward:

”Catch Nikita! Don’t let her get away!”

Then, with a ’whoosh’, turned into a streak of light, was sucked into the Black Moon, and vanished without a trace in a blink.

...

”Why didn’t you stop him!”

Forty-one suddenly turned, looking at Master Baoyangzi with a very serious expression: ”You should know, he is special... This falls within the scope of work for relevant departments.”

The Elder Wizard’s grizzled hair gently fluttered under the pull of the Black Moon.

”Because he is special.” Master Baoyangzi glared at the Black Moon, his body suffused with fluctuating magical power, saying in a low voice: ”...Theoretically, the entrance to the Black Prison only actively guides two types of wizards, prison guards and prisoners.”

Frowning, Forty-one said, ”He’s not a prison guard.”

The identity of a Black Prison guard requires certification from the Mage Alliance and a series of extremely stringent assessments, as per Forty-one’s understanding, Zheng Qing absolutely could not hold the qualification of a Black Prison guard.

Master Baoyangzi lowered his eyelids, a strange hue flashed in his eyes: ”...It’s like before when he was locked onto by the school’s guardian array. I thought it was because of those two young female demons. Now it seems, this kid must have some more dangerous aura... dangerous enough for the Black Prison to decide it needs to be locked away.”

”But you could have stopped it all.” Forty-one stubbornly shook his head.

The Elder Wizard sighed slightly, raised his arm, showing his slightly trembling fingers to the blue-robed warlock: ”It’s not about not doing, it’s about being unable to. The Black Prison now is a battlefield of severed cause and effect... Rash contact with that Black Moon by my power is extremely dangerous, dangerous... Unless I intend to meddle with the messy matters within the Black Prison... In other words, the higher the power, the more severe the restraint it faces at this moment.”

”On the contrary, those children with low mana are more suitable than you or me to handle the trouble here.”

Speaking, Master Baoyangzi glanced at the pavilion not far away, watching the orderly busy student council members, with some contemplation: ”Perhaps the school’s diviners predicted the now occurring events long ago... So the only big wizard appearing by the lake today, apart from uninformed me, remains just that one octopus hiding in the library.”

The big black cat, lying by the feet of the two wizards, slowly got up, pressed front paws, stretched its legs, and made a big lazy stretch.

It flicked its tail and turned to look at the Elder Wizard.

”You can’t be described as ’clueless’,” the black cat flicked its ears, its voice a bit hoarse, looking at the Elder Wizard with eyes full of mockery: ”Don’t look at me being black... but compared with you old wizards, I’m practically as pure as an angel.”
