High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1629: Chapter 373: Don’t Mess with the Cat

”As stupid as ever.”

The Black Cat first concluded with a very short sentence, then without looking at the Warlock’s somewhat flushed face, flicked its tail and simply replied, ”I’m already a formal employee of the relevant department, why can’t I come to the Black Prison? I have enough freedom, and I have enough ability to protect myself.”

It emphasized the word ’freedom’ very clearly.

”...As for whether they know you’re here,” reaching this point, the Black Cat glanced sidelong at the Warlock, the whiskers on its snout trembling with disdain, ”How fresh... such a big person like you, in mid-air over Lin Zhong Lake, in plain view, was sucked into the Black Moon, and you still expect no one to see?”

”Do you think everyone else is blind?”

”Not to mention you destroyed the school’s Protect Legal Formation, now you’re on record in the relevant department as well. You might have to go with the Danghag people when you go back this time!”

Behind Zheng Qing, two ’statues’ finally couldn’t maintain their stiff expressions, slightly turning their rigid necks, looking at Zheng Qing with shocked eyes — being able to destroy the First University’s Protect Legal Formation is considered a legendary feat among Demons.

These prisoners in the Black Prison, perhaps initially had some unwelcome thoughts seeing Zheng Qing’s fresh arrival, but after ’Flowing Fire in July’ fell, they immediately forgot about the previous dangerous ideas; after the Black Cat, the Blue Fish, and the completely aflame Black Mountain Goat appeared, they even forgot their own existence.

After all, they were just two statues.

”That was an accident!”

Zheng Qing emphasized hesitantly, seeming as if he wanted to argue something yet found he couldn’t explain, eventually having an inspiration and recalling the words the Black Cat said before: ”...like you said, blind Fortuna, I was just unlucky.”

”No, this time it wasn’t Fortuna’s blindness, instead, it counts as a miracle.”

The Black Cat once again denied the young wizard’s viewpoint, pridefully raising its paw:

”...What is called a miracle is merely enough power reasonably expressed at an opportune moment... Many people think that a beggar monk becoming a founding ancestor is a miracle, winning tens of thousands of jade coins from one copper at the casino is a miracle, and Harold Dillahunt escaping from the Witch Demons’ barbeque gathering is also a miracle. Yet they don’t know, behind those miracles is enough power to match the miracle.”

Oh, both direct and backward remarks were said by this cat.

Can’t mess with it, can’t mess with it.

Zheng Qing gave up arguing with the Black Cat, glanced at the white rainbow in the sky, awkwardly asked, ”Did you come down from up there too? Why didn’t I see you just now.”

”You missed a lot.” The Black Cat continued to mock.

The Warlock ignored the Black Cat’s rudeness, jumped over the topic, instead inquired, ”Who is Fortuna, this name sounds a bit familiar.”

”You don’t know why you dare to randomly use that idiom?”

The Black Cat widened its eyes, finally seeing the Warlock’s embarrassed expression, immediately satisfied, flicked its tail: ”Fortuna is the true name of the lucky goddess, Babs is the goddess of misfortune... you’ve been in the university for a year now, what did you learn at school? How come you don’t even understand these common-sense issues?”

Zheng Qing really wanted to say he hadn’t chosen Ancient Greek Theology History as an elective.

But considering that the other party is only a cat, essentially even just a shadow, he couldn’t bother to get angry with a cat — especially since that cat used to be his shadow, getting angry with it is somewhat equivalent to a person with schizophrenia arguing with themselves in their mind.

The Old Witch Demon, who had been cautiously standing behind Zheng Qing, finally rotated its nearly dried brain, figuring out Zheng Qing’s identity: that red-eyed fellow turned out not to be a Witch Demon, but a student of the First University? Does the First University now admit students as fierce as this? Even Demons? Or does that fellow have special bloodline, like a spirit of a white rabbit or an albino Vampire?

The Old Witch Demon’s mind revolved with these absurd ideas, yet outwardly became increasingly cautious, even closing its nostrils, holding its breath.

The Black Cat’s sharp ears rotated, glancing at it:

”Why are they standing here?” It wrinkled its nose, smelling a faint Demonic stench, feeling somewhat displeased, ”Did you use the immobilization spell on them?”

The two statues remained motionless, as if eternally having stone-made bones, clay-crafted appearances.

”Immobilization spell?”

Zheng Qing turned to look at the two gray-white ’statues’, resisting the urge to laugh: ”I haven’t learned such advanced spells, as for why they’re staying here... maybe they think I need two guards.”

”Guards? No, you don’t.” The Black Cat flicked its ears, lifted its head, full of confidence: ”With me around, you don’t need any other guards.”

So, was this cat worried something might happen to him, and ran over to be his guard?

This thought crossed Zheng Qing’s mind, a pensive expression appeared on his face, then he looked towards the distant Black Mountain Goat kid: ”And what about it? Why did it come to the Black Prison?”

The Black Cat was stunned for a second.

It’s not a follower of Nicolas, how could it know why His followers would come to a demon-infested, battle imminent Black Prison?

But in front of Zheng Qing, the Black Cat would never show cowardice.

”Sheep are a bunch of fools,”

The Black Cat stretched its two front paws, took a big lazy stretch, rose its body and then continued in an apparently serious manner:

”But this bunch of fools likes to climb around the cliffs. Many times, they step into empty air, fall from the ridges into the valleys, breaking their legs, yet will only struggle to stand up, stupidly looking from side to side, ’Hey, what just happened’...and then staggeringly climbing up the slope again... until some unlucky time breaking their neck.”

”Only death can stop foolish belief, not even time.”

A remark seemingly saying something profound but on closer examination, appeared to say nothing; as if explaining the reason that goat came to the Black Prison, yet like a profound Zen master’s Dharma expression could be interpreted in any way.

Zheng Qing was still lowering his head, pondering the meaning of the Black Cat’s words.

One of the ’statues’ next to him couldn’t resist speaking up.

”Hunger can too.”

The Old Witch Demon finally found an appropriate chance to respectfully interject: ”Just like us poor creatures... for a bit of food, we’ve long forgotten what is a Demon, what is a Wizard, what is a Divine Spirit, the only thing we can remember is where there’s something to fill our bellies.”

The Tiger Demon stopped pretending to be a statue too, stuck out its tongue, nodding its head madly, as if the Old Witch Demon spoke its true thoughts.

The Black Cat glanced at them in surprise.

”Why are you still here?!”

It expressed surprise, tail pointing to the distance: ”The Little monsters near that goat have already run away... aren’t you all together?”

Too close, the moonlight shines too far, even if we wanted to run, we couldn’t!

The Old Witch Demon silently cursed in its heart, its expression becoming even more sincere: ”Being able to listen closely to the teachings of an adult is a blessing accumulated over several lifetimes... those little monsters don’t have that blessing.”
