Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 839: Chapter 421: Singing With You Together_2

He said awkwardly, ”Young Master Evan, I originally calculated that someone with great destiny would show up today, and I wanted you to meet him, which would be an even greater help to you. Unfortunately, by the time I chased him here, his trail just vanished.”

”Oh? Even Mr. Gilbert can lose track of someone?” Evan Stetford said in surprise. ”If there’s a chance, I really have to meet this mystical figure.”

”Young Master Evan, don’t make fun of me. I, Gilbert, have always prided myself on caution, never thought I’d overturn in the gutter this time...” Mr. Gilbert said, blushing as he mocked himself.

Evan Stetford nodded. ”I was just joking, Mr. Gilbert, don’t take it to heart. Without you, there wouldn’t be me. I’m grateful for you saving my life.”

”You’re too polite, Young Master Evan, this is all what I should do.” Only then did Mr. Gilbert straighten his back. ”If you still have things to do, go ahead. If not, I can stay and drink with you for a while. The restaurant just brought in fresh Maine lobsters; would Young Master Evan like one?”

Evan Stetford smiled and shook his head. ”Since you didn’t find him, then forget it. I really do have things to take care of, I’ll be leaving first.”

Mr. Gilbert hurriedly nodded. ”Then I won’t hold Young Master Evan up.”

After that, he casually asked, as if in passing: ”...The Celestial Master Sect World Cup Grand Laureate Showdown that happens once every four years— I heard this year’s grand prize is some secret weapon Ninth Uncle put up? Could Young Master Evan give a hint? I’m really curious what good stuff there’ll be this year.”

Ninth Uncle was Evan Stetford’s father, Richard Stetford. People in the trade all called him ”Ninth Uncle.”

Evan Stetford arched a brow. ”I don’t know either, I’m just about to go discuss this with my father. Mr. Gilbert, you’ve already taken two consecutive World Cups’ Grand Laureate titles—any interest in joining this year? The heirloom treasure my father is personally putting up is worth fighting for.”

”I was originally planning not to compete, to leave some chances for the younger generation. But since Ninth Uncle is putting such a good item on the table, it’d be impolite of me to decline.” Mr. Gilbert cupped his hands toward Evan in the car and said with a smile, ”Then I’ll get the three-peat first before retiring backstage.”

”The Grant Branch having Mr. Gilbert is a blessing for the Grant Branch, and a blessing for our Stetford Family as well.” Evan Stetford offered a polite compliment, nodded toward Mr. Gilbert, and the car window rose slowly, blocking his face from view.

Evan Stetford had only stopped briefly at the entrance and hadn’t even gotten out of the car.

Yet Mr. Gilbert, the big boss of ”Gilbert Family Cuisine,” had personally come out to welcome him, standing by the car door bowing and grinning as he chatted for quite a while.

Even if they didn’t know who was in that luxury car, everyone could guess it had to be one of the top-tier big shots.

Forget the car; just talking about someone who could make Mr. Gilbert—who’s always so proud—stand there respectfully and docilely like that, you could count them on the fingers of one hand across all overseas circles.

Mr. Gilbert kept standing at the restaurant entrance, watching until Evan’s car disappeared from sight, then turned around and went back into the restaurant.

His female companion asked curiously, ”...Was that the Stetford eldest young master? His airs are really something, why didn’t he come in?”

”Just eat your food. What’s a woman doing worrying about this kind of thing?” Mr. Gilbert snapped off a big lobster, grabbed the tail with the shell still on, and shoved it straight into the woman’s mouth, blocking her from talking.

The lobster shell was hard and sharp, and it immediately cut the woman’s mouth, tearing a gash at the corner of her lips.

She hurriedly spat the tail out and burst into tears, covering her face as she ran outside.

The waiters in the restaurant all acted as if they hadn’t seen a thing, standing with their hands behind their backs at the private room door, waiting to serve the dishes.

The people in the private room went quiet for a bit, but seeing Mr. Gilbert eating lobster as if no one else were there, they gradually loosened up again.

They picked up bottles of Moutai to toast him, flattering him as a ”heaven-gifted prodigy,” praising: ”...Mr. Gilbert, in your early thirties you cut down all your rivals, knocking a whole bunch of seventy- and eighty-year-old geezers off their pedestals! You took the very first Celestial Master Sect World Cup Grand Laureate! Four years ago, your second time competing, you even swept the board with a perfect record to take the second Grand Laureate!”

”Looking across the entire history of the Celestial Master Sect, aside from our founding Patriarch, you’re the most badass legend, Mr. Gilbert!”

A whole wave of rainbow farts finally lifted Mr. Gilbert’s mood.

He’d been seething with frustration the whole night.

The ”man of great destiny” that was already nailed down on the board had just silently flown away like that. He was a cultivation prodigy, became the ”Grant Branch Great Heavenly Master” at eighteen, and now, approaching fifty, he had never run into something like this before.

And then there was how Evan had clearly come just now, yet hadn’t even gotten out of the car...

Mr. Gilbert had acted like he didn’t care, but inside he cared like hell.

Just think about Evan—if not for his help scheming on all sides, even pushing him into the entertainment industry to draw in popularity and make up for the rift between him and his father, how could he possibly have the momentum he has now?
