Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 804: Chapter 409: Good Causes Bring Good Results (First Update)

Lawrence Winters breathed a sigh of relief, coming alive again as if a lifeless jade sculpture had been imbued with celestial breath and instantly revived.

She sat down in front of Edward Foster and said with a cheeky smile, ”I’d love to hear more.”

Edward Foster laughed self-deprecatingly, thinking to himself that his pursuit, like a devoted admirer, was likely unprecedented and unparalleled.

How he also had to promote news about his rival in love...

He coughed lightly and began to explain the situation of the Stetford Family.

”Evan’s great-great-grandfather was named Raymond Stetford, and he was a chef in his early years, possessing exceptional culinary skills.”

”As a young man, Raymond traveled abroad to work, eventually opening his own restaurant, where he became very well-liked.”

”Back then, our country was fractured, its national strength weak, and the people living in distress. In times of turmoil, people were treated worse than dogs, and those in foreign lands frequently faced bullying from foreigners.”

”Raymond was a warm-hearted man who couldn’t stand seeing his compatriots being mistreated.”

”So, he took the initiative, uniting overseas compatriots and forming organizations that not only protected them but also offered financial mutual assistance services.”

”As a result, the endeavor grew larger, attracting more and more people.”

”He was a man of great vision. Initially, he founded the organization to help our compatriots.”

”But as the organization expanded and developed, he extended his aid to both whites and blacks.”

”In short, anyone oppressed by those in power or wealthy individuals who sought help received his protection.”

”Once, he sheltered a destitute, nearly starving young white man, who, under Raymond’s sponsorship, pursued education and later attended law school, eventually becoming Raymond’s dedicated lawyer after graduation.”

”Later, this young lawyer entered a foreign presidential election and achieved a sweeping victory...”

Upon hearing this, Lawrence Winters was taken aback.

She was extremely surprised: ”What?! The Stetford Family has such an impressive background?! Does that mean they’ve integrated into the mainstream social circles abroad?”

Edward Foster nodded: ”If by mainstream foreign social circles, you mean the top-tier political arena, then yes, a hundred years ago they were already a significant force in that country’s political scene.”

”With their background, they couldn’t run in elections themselves, but they could sponsor others to run.”

”Over these years, they’ve almost become the weather vane for that country’s elections.”

”Whoever the Stetford Family supports can get elected. —It’s that peculiar.”

Lawrence Winters’ gaping mouth closed again.

She pondered for a moment, gently tapping her fair fingers on Edward Foster’s walnut office desk, and said lightly, ”...And what about now? Old Raymond must have passed away by now, right?”

Edward Foster nodded: ”Yes, he’s passed away, as have his son and grandson. Now the head of the Stetford Family is Richard Stetford, whom we call Uncle Nine, and Evan Stetford is his great-grandson.”

Lawrence Winters hesitated for a moment before asking, ”...What about Autumn Stetford? What’s her status in the Stetford Family?”

Edward Foster chuckled, ”I knew you’d ask this.”

”Autumn Stetford has the same father as Evan but different mothers. From their age, you can tell. Evan is younger than Autumn’s youngest son, Ryan Sheldon, by a year. Yet, all three Sheldon children have to call him uncle.”

”Autumn Stetford’s mother was Uncle Nine’s concubine. Back then, certain places recognized the legal status of concubines. Her mother was formally married but was not the main wife.”

”Uncle Nine’s main wife was his childhood sweetheart, but she died in childbirth, and their child did not survive.”

”Later, Uncle Nine had many women. Besides four or five concubines at home, he had many women outside, who bore him many children—but he didn’t favor them. The only daughter whose status was acknowledged was Autumn because of the influence from her mother, who was Uncle Nine’s favorite for over twenty years.”

Lawrence Winters clicked her tongue, ”No wonder Autumn has such an impressive demeanor. Twenty years as the Stetford Family’s only young lady, she almost became the heir.”

”If I were her, I’d act out even more!”

Edward Foster threw back his head and laughed, revealing a dazzling set of white teeth.

From this angle, Lawrence Winters unexpectedly saw a trace of Kenneth Osborne’s charm.

She was slightly taken aback.

Edward Foster, after laughing, noticed the unusual expression on Lawrence Winters’ face.

He couldn’t help but touch his face, asking, ”What’s up? Is there something dirty on my face?”

The resemblance to Kenneth Osborne vanished without a trace.

Lawrence Winters smirked, convinced she had imagined it.

She slightly raised her lips, ”No, I was just reflecting on Autumn Stetford. Will she accept having a much younger brother suddenly appear in her life of twenty-plus years as sole prominence?”

Edward Foster said, ”I don’t know her internal thoughts, but I know that the siblings actually have a good relationship. Autumn Stetford is very protective of her brother and isn’t interested in fighting for the inheritance.”

Lawrence Winters smirked, thinking that with someone like Richard Stetford, even if she wanted to fight, she couldn’t...

Lawrence Winters did not continue on this topic, instead inquiring about Evan’s mother: ”By the way, what kind of person is Evan’s mother? She married Richard, right? She’s not another concubine, is she?”

”No, Evan’s mother is a legally wedded wife, the type who can split the family estate equally with Richard.”

Lawrence Winters nodded: ”I know, his mother is the only daughter of Blue Heavy Industries, so he’s also an heir to Blue Heavy Industries.”

Edward Foster continued, ”Yes, over twenty years after Richard’s first wife passed away, he married a second official wife. I don’t know much about Evan’s mother.”

”I know she gave birth to a son for Uncle Nine in the second year after entering the family, which was Evan.”

”Richard adores his son immensely. From birth, he declared that Evan is the Stetford Family’s heir. Unfortunately, Evan was also frail and sickly as a child but later improved under the guidance of a Geomancer Master.”

”After reaching adulthood, he entered the entertainment industry to pass the time, essentially borrowing the industry for ’popularity’.”

Lawrence Winters, having heard Edward Foster’s words, finally found the content she was seeking.

She probed, ”...Geomancer Master? Would this master have the surname Ge?”

”What do you think? Of the renowned overseas Geomancer Masters, other than the one with the surname Ge, who else is there?” Edward Foster scoffed, ”You just want to settle the score with them, don’t you?”

”Of course. They owe me.” Lawrence Winters said confidently, ”Don’t you know the saying ’the heavens reveal all, retribution is sure’?”

”As people of the Celestial Path Sect, we cannot bear karma. I’m aiding them by freeing them from their karma; otherwise, they won’t meet a good end.”

Lawrence Winters’ voice was cool and aloof, sending a chill down Edward Foster’s spine.

”Well, my work records are all here. Young Foster can temporarily find the PR department director to act concurrently for a while. I am truly resigning. My family’s firm is currently unhandled; I cannot let it fall dormant. I have to uphold our family legacy.” Lawrence Winters said seriously, ”Young Foster has been very kind to me, and I remember it all. You’ve sown good karma that will bear good fruit. If there’s ever an opportunity, I’ll repay this karma.”

With that, she walked out.

This time, Edward Foster didn’t stop her.

He watched her departing silhouette leave his office, and for some reason, he saw in her retreating figure a hint of ”The cold wind rises, the river Yi is cold,” a sense of solitary decisiveness.
