Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 822: Chapter 415: Fate and Blessings (First Update)_3

”My silly girl, these are completely different kinds of feelings... It’s obvious you haven’t transitioned from childhood friendship to genuine love.” Gabrielle Winters shook her head. ”Or you might have love, but your way of interacting hasn’t changed. In this mode, your love leads to a dead end.”

”Huh? There’s so much to talk about?” Lawrence Winters was dumbfounded. ”Mom, why didn’t you say so earlier? If you did, I wouldn’t have gotten married!”

”You two were so sweet back then, I thought you both understood...” Gabrielle said ruefully. ”Especially Ardent, he’s three years older than you and a man, he should know more than you, but even he didn’t change his mindset. Alas, it seems you two aren’t meant to be.”

Lawrence didn’t like what she heard and pouted. ”He’s a man, three years older, but why should he know more than me? Maybe he doesn’t understand either? That’s why we got married and divorced so quickly...”

”Hmm, that’s possible too.” Gabrielle waved her hand helplessly. ”Well, now you’re divorced, and your status will be ’divorced’. Do you think that reputation sounds nice?”

Nick Zeller shouted, ”Divorced? According to our hometown’s customs, if you don’t host a banquet, it’s not considered marriage! Even with a marriage certificate, it doesn’t count! So Lawrence, don’t be discouraged, you’re still a cute, unmarried girl! Don’t worry, three-legged frogs are hard to find, but two-legged men are not!”

Lawrence burst out laughing, ”Dad, saying that, mom is definitely going to fix you tonight!”

Nick quickly covered his mouth, glancing sideways at Gabrielle.

Gabrielle acted like she didn’t see, speaking calmly, ”My daughter just got divorced, I have to stay with her for a while to comfort her and prevent her from becoming depressed. Nick, you’ll live alone for now.”

Saying this, Gabrielle stood up from the sofa and took Lawrence back to her room.

Lawrence grabbed her bag and looked back at Nick with a triumphant smile.

Nick held his face with his hand, let out an exaggerated cry of ’pain’, and fainted onto the sofa.

But once Lawrence’s door closed, he lowered his hand, and the playful smile on his face completely vanished.

He looked at the old Daoist, and seriously said, ”Master, what do you think is going on?”

The old Daoist said irritably, ”I’ve never been in love, never been married, how should I know what’s happening?”

This was in response to Nick’s earlier words.

Nick chuckled, watching the old Daoist get up and return to his room, quickly following him in as well.

The two of them closed the door.

The old Daoist sat on the sofa in his room, arranging divination sticks on the coffee table, and spoke calmly, ”I’ve always said, no one’s ever done what we’re doing. The path we walk is unheard of and unprecedented. So asking me, even I don’t know why. Other than watching from the sidelines, what do you think we can do?”

Nick scratched his head, apologetically said, ”But I’m worried about Lawrence... she’s now divorced from Ardent, what’s she going to do in the future? Is she really going to pursue Daoism for life?”

”That’s not something you or I need to worry about.” The old Daoist raised his head, his gaze profound and wise. ”She will find her own way. As for us, let’s return to the mountains and recuperate first.”

This was already discussed.

But now Nick wasn’t reassured. ”Then what about Lawrence? Shouldn’t we take her back to the mountain too? The money we earn, if spent sparingly, won’t be used up in two lifetimes.”

”Come on, talking about spending sparingly, why don’t you say if we only eat plain rice every day, even ten lifetimes won’t use it up? But can you spend the day eating plain rice, with no expenses whatsoever?”

The old Daoist rolled his eyes.

”Of course not,” Nick objected without hesitation, ”Besides, retirement also costs money, I don’t want to be sent to a nursing home then.”

”With Lawrence there, she won’t.” The old Daoist reassured Nick. ”And have you forgotten? Besides you being her master, Lawrence has an even more formidable master. Even if we’re not here, he will protect her.”

Nick recalled Lawrence’s recent master, Ian Lothrop.

The two were silent for a while, then the old Daoist said softly, ”If there is anyone in this world who can protect her, it can only be her master.—It’s fate and Lawrence’s blessing.”

”...You mean Ian Lothrop?”

”No, Timothy Graham.”

Nick heard the name from the old Daoist’s mouth again.

Timothy Graham was a brilliant scientist, but he has been living incognito overseas for years, once had contact with the old Daoist back then.

Nick puzzled, ”But didn’t you say he died a long time ago?”

The old Daoist smiled, ”No, I guessed he was dead. But now, facts prove he’s not. So I guessed wrong.”
