Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 528: Chapter 285: Suffering a Setback (First Update)

”Obviously you scared me, yet you say I scared you!” Gabrielle Winters was in tears, her anger flaring: ”Do you know how much effort and suffering your uncle and I went through to raise you? For you, we both gave up everything!”

”I won’t speak for myself, since I’m your mom, but your uncle, back then, he was a graduate from a prestigious university! Preparing to study abroad! He had a bright future ahead! But for you, he even gave up his future!”

”When you were little, you were very sick, the medical expenses depleted all of our savings...”

”To ensure you lived a life no worse than others, your uncle had to pretend to be blind on the streets, doing divination to make money!”

”Now that you’ve grown up and have your own opinions, is this how you treat the mom and uncle who painstakingly raised you?”

Gabrielle Winters remembered the past, crying uncontrollably.

”If you can’t cherish yourself, why did your uncle and I work so hard to bring you up?!”

”We don’t ask for anything from you, we only want you to live healthily and happily, can’t you even do that?!”

Lawrence Winters was utterly stunned.

She had mentally prepared herself, knowing she’d surely face a scolding upon returning home.

But she hadn’t expected that her mom absolutely couldn’t accept the fact that she was injured.

She looked helplessly towards Nick Zeller, her eyes like black jade filled with helplessness and pleading.

Nick Zeller sighed.

He knew he was at fault too.

To ensure Lawrence Winters could protect herself when they weren’t around, he did indeed teach her many things.

Including hiring someone to teach her martial arts from a young age.

For a pretty girl to grow up peacefully without any harassment, parents worry endlessly.

But he hadn’t expected, Lawrence Winters grew up safely, yet the martial arts he arranged for her to learn became her tool for recklessness.

This is the dual nature of things.

Nick Zeller raised his hand with a headache and said, ”Lawrence, what exactly happened, tell us clearly first.”

Lawrence Winters nodded, quickly recounting the incident with Ms. Three Billion from yesterday, adding: ”Blake Leaf wants to marry Summer Spencer, Ms. Three Billion is heartbroken, and I predicted she might encounter a calamity, that’s why I went to save her.”

”And that calamity wasn’t insurmountable, so I felt going to save her was the right thing to do.”

”As for this arm, it was an accident...”

Lawrence Winters didn’t dare to say she did it intentionally, worried Gabrielle Winters and Nick Zeller would be even angrier.

But Kenneth Osborne didn’t let her off, adding, ”The police said, if Nora hadn’t also gotten hurt, those five men would have accused her of intentional injury.”

”Because that parking lot has no surveillance, if Nora was unscathed but the other side was badly injured, it’s hard to believe Nora was indeed ’attacked’.”

With Kenneth Osborne’s words, Nick Zeller immediately understood.

Lawrence Winters’ injury was ”intentional.”

He squinted his eyes, saying sternly, ”Lawrence, you’re quite something... you even know the ’self-inflicted injury trick,’ yet won’t tell us? You really deserve a beating!”

Gabrielle Winters was also deeply disappointed, slowly pushing Lawrence Winters away, not even looking at her, saying: ”Lawrence, you know I hate being deceived the most.”

”Even after I’ve said so much, you’re still thinking of avoiding the important issues, still thinking of deceiving me, I can’t accept such behavior from you.”

She stood up, paused and said, ”Consider me whitewashing raising you, don’t call me mom anymore. With what you’ve done, there’s little affection left between us as mother and daughter.”

She rushed to her room, slamming the door shut.

Lawrence Winters bit her lip, watching Gabrielle Winters’ departing figure, terror gripped her entire body, she was so scared that tears couldn’t even flow.

The old Daoist shook his head, not saying a word, and went back to his room.

Nick Zeller had no intention to persuade her either, but left a sentence: ”Lawrence, you should deeply reflect. Otherwise, I can’t help you.”

Only Kenneth Osborne stayed with her in the dining room.

But Lawrence Winters didn’t feel comforted.

After crying, she stood up from the ground, glared at Kenneth Osborne, venting all her anger at him: ”Why did you do that just now?”

”If it wasn’t for your reckless words, my mom wouldn’t be so angry!”

”I spoke the truth.” Kenneth Osborne also stood up calmly and said, ”It seems you still haven’t truly reflected on your behavior. You’re merely regretting that your mom and uncle know about it.”

”Nora, don’t disappoint me, you should know what can be done and what can’t.”

Lawrence Winters glared at Kenneth Osborne, feeling both disappointed and hurt, she pursed her lips and said, ”But Kenneth, you’re my fiancé! Why can’t you stand by me?! Moreover, I’m not doing anything bad, I’m saving someone!”

”I don’t need you to tell me if it’s right or wrong! I just need you to stand by me and protect me regardless!”

Kenneth Osborne calmly shook his head with his hands in his pockets, ”No, you need to know right from wrong, know what’s important, know what should be done and what shouldn’t.”

”Most importantly, you should use your brain to handle things, and not always rely on those unreliable divinations.” Kenneth Osborne pointed to his head, ”Without rational thinking, you can turn good deeds into bad ones.”

Lawrence Winters’ arm was severely injured, and now she was filled with resentment, Kenneth Osborne wasn’t comforting her, but constantly adding fuel to the fire, finally disappointing her mom and uncle to the extreme.

At this point, Lawrence Winters only felt a double blow from family and love.

Her discomfort was indescribable, she closed her eyes and finally said, ”I know you look down on me, and my identity as a Heavenly Master. Then why are you still with me? —— I don’t need a fiancé like you, I don’t need a fiancé who kicks me while I’m down during my toughest times!”
