Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 525: Chapter 283: Habit

The police thought Lawrence Winters had stopped crying because he listened to them, so they quickly helped her stand up.

Seeing that her arm was bleeding quite a bit, they hurriedly called for an ambulance.

Ryan Sheldon, as the person who reported the incident and a witness, was also questioned by the police.

He was somewhat worried about Lawrence Winters’ condition, but to show that he had no close relationship with her, he restrained himself from following the ambulance.

When the police left and the five men were also taken to the hospital by ambulance, Ryan returned to his car.

Sister Three Billion might have drunk too much, as she had already fallen asleep in his car.

Listening to her even breathing, Ryan sat in the car, not daring to move.

After the earlier commotion, the parking lot was now peaceful.

The moon hung high in the sky, the street lamps cast a pale light, the car windows were open, and a breeze occasionally blew in, bringing a bit of chill.

Ryan worried that Sister Three Billion might catch a cold, so he took off his jacket and covered her with it.

His mood was in a peculiar state of tension, to the point that he couldn’t muster the energy to check his phone.

It seemed like he had thought about many things, yet also like he hadn’t thought about anything at all.

He just sat quietly in the car, wishing he could sit there forever.

...

Lawrence Winters was taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital because her injuries appeared to be the most severe. She was immediately pushed into the emergency room, where a doctor came to examine her injuries.

The leather jacket on her arm had been cut open, and the doctor cut open her sleeve, discovering a very deep knife mark on her arm that nearly reached the bone.

”You’re really lucky. If it had hit an artery, with this much blood loss, you’d be done for,” the doctor clicked his tongue twice, his eyes behind the mask appearing quite relaxed.

Lawrence Winters said with a horrified expression, ”I thought I was going to die too. There were five of them! Five big men! Holding such long watermelon knives! I had no choice but to fight back desperately with my waistchain... I don’t know how many people I hit, I was fighting with my eyes closed!”

”Oh? Five men against you alone! Miss, you’re really lucky to have just injured your arm!” the doctor exclaimed in surprise.

After cleaning her wound, seeing that the bleeding had finally stopped, although the knife mark was deep, the cut was very straight. It must have been a very sharp knife, and with proper care, there should be no need for stitches.

However, this also carried risks.

The doctor discussed treatment options with Lawrence Winters: ”We have a non-stitch gel patch that should work very well for this type of wound and won’t leave a scar, but you’ll need to immobilize your arm and not move it for half a month to ensure perfect healing.”

”Alternatively, we could do stitches, which wouldn’t require immobilization, and you’d just come back to have them removed when it’s time. The downside is that it might leave a scar.”

Upon hearing that her arm would need to be splinted and immobilized for half a month, Lawrence Winters was about to give up on this method.

But when she heard that the second option might leave a scar, she immediately said, ”Then let’s go with the first option.”

With her arm splinted, she would definitely get scolded when she got home, but so be it.

Lawrence Winters decided to take it on openly.

The doctor nodded and began further treating her wound to use the gel patch, then tightly wrapped it with gauze and finally applied a splint.

...

Meanwhile, Kenneth Osborne had just finished working overtime, and after showering, he intended to go to bed.

Every night before sleeping, he would open an app on his phone to check Lawrence Winters’ avatar location.

On his phone, Lawrence Winters’ avatar was still from when she hadn’t yet lost weight, smiling at him with eyes like black grapes.

Kenneth Osborne would touch her avatar and then fall asleep peacefully.

Tonight, as he lay on his pillow, he habitually opened the app on his phone, intending to look at Lawrence Winters’ avatar location before sleeping, but suddenly noticed something wasn’t right.

First, on the app’s map, Lawrence Winters’ avatar kept spinning and wouldn’t load.

This usually happened for two reasons, either the internet speed was too slow, or her location wasn’t determined yet, and the phone was still obtaining it.

Kenneth Osborne immediately opened the app to test the internet speed, which was as fast as lightning.

So it definitely wasn’t an internet speed issue.

That left the second reason; Lawrence Winters’ location wasn’t determined.

But she lived right next door to him, how could it not be determined in the middle of the night?

Could something be wrong with the phone?

Kenneth Osborne quickly restarted his phone and then reopened the app to locate a friend, finding the same situation.

However, this time, it confirmed a bit quicker.

The app’s map showed that Lawrence Winters was not at home, but rather a few kilometers away at a certain hospital!

Kenneth Osborne sat up straight from his bed.

While dialing Lawrence Winters’ number, he rushed out of his bedroom and knocked on her bedroom door.

Worried about waking any of her other family members, Kenneth Osborne knocked lightly.

No response after a while, he directly turned the door handle.

With a click, Lawrence Winters’ bedroom door opened.

Kenneth Osborne turned on the lamp by the door, discovering that her bed was a mess, the blanket nearly dragged to the floor.

The pillow was against the headboard, but no one was on the bed.

...

At the hospital, Lawrence Winters felt his phone vibrating, but he couldn’t reach for it.

Because the doctor was applying a splint to her arm.

Who would call her so late?

Lawrence suddenly had a bad feeling.

Kenneth Osborne had been calling for a while with no answer, and there was no one in Lawrence’s bedroom.

He didn’t hesitate anymore, quickly went back to his room to change clothes, grabbed his car keys, and left.

Ten minutes later, he arrived at the hospital the phone indicated.

Lawrence should be here.

But the hospital was so big, how could he find where Lawrence was?

He looked around, unsure who to ask, and kept calling and texting Lawrence.

Lawrence’s arm was finally splinted; her left arm was immobilized, but she could still use her right hand, so she hurriedly took out her phone.

She saw Kenneth calling again.

She felt a bit guilty but relieved.

Kenneth was easier to deal with compared to her mom and uncle.

Lawrence hurriedly answered the call, speaking tearfully: ”Kenneth, I got attacked, my arm is covered in blood...”

Kenneth: ”...”

He held back his anger, and slowly said, ”So that’s why you’re at the hospital in the middle of the night? Nora, which room are you in?”

Lawrence was stunned, thinking shouldn’t you be shocked and then rush over?

How does he seem to be already here...

Confused, she obediently gave her room number.

She was in the emergency room on the second floor.

Kenneth rushed upstairs.

In the emergency room, Lawrence was bandaged up, adjusting her clothes, ready to go to the police station to continue giving her statement.

Kenneth saw Lawrence standing with her back to the emergency room door in a stylish leather jacket.

Her left arm was bound with white gauze and hung around her neck with a splint.

The jacket sleeve was cut open, resembling a trendy ragged look.

She looked both alarming and somewhat comical.

”...Nora, what happened?” Kenneth composed himself and walked over quickly.

Lawrence turned around in surprise, ”Kenneth?! How are you so fast?!”

She thought he’d need at least tens of minutes to arrive.

”I was downstairs when I called you.” Kenneth said as he sat down with her, worriedly checking her arm, ”What exactly happened? Weren’t you supposed to be sleeping at home? How did you end up getting attacked like this?”

Even with his quick mind, Kenneth couldn’t figure out what had happened.

He hadn’t imagined Lawrence would sneak out in the middle of the night.

Lawrence blinked her dark eyes innocently and said, ”Kenneth, you might not believe it but they were the ones who attacked first.—Look at my wounds!”

She was about to continue playing the victim when a policeman walked in, speaking somberly: ”Miss Winters, those five men deny attacking you and are countercharging you with intentional injury.”

Lawrence: ”???

Suppressing her anger, tears welled up immediately, ”...They’re charging me with intentional injury?! Five grown men wielding watermelon knives attacked a defenseless woman like me, and they’re charging me with intentional injury?! Where is the justice?! Is it my fault just because I didn’t let them succeed?!”

Kenneth’s heart started racing, ”What five men?! And watermelon knives? Nora, stop talking, I’ll get a lawyer right away.”

With that, he picked up his phone to call a lawyer he knew well.

At that point, the policeman chuckled bitterly, ”I know they’re shameless, but those five men suffered severe injuries and have lost reproductive capability. They require surgery to remove vital organs. They are all blaming you alone...”

”How did this happen? I don’t know... They attacked me with knives, I was scared, my arm was cut, and I couldn’t control my strength, so... I just... just... swung my chain at them... sob sob...”

Lawrence cried into Kenneth’s arms.

Kenneth patted her back, roughly understanding what happened.

He wholeheartedly believed Lawrence acted in self-defense, though to what extent was uncertain.

Considering she faced five knife-wielding men, any form of self-defense was justified, especially as her arm was injured.

Lawrence began to say, haltingly: ”They were conspiring; one of them drugged my friend’s drink earlier, seen by others. When I arrived, that bad guy even claimed my friend was his wife and wanted to take her away. I disagreed, then argued with him.”

”Later, we had more people, and that guy got scared and ran.”

”But when I went to the parking lot for my car, he brought four accomplices over, brandishing knives threatening I go with them for fun...”

”I refused, then they slashed at me with knives. I was so scared, just swung my waist chain wildly, I just wanted them not to come near me, I didn’t know it would be so serious...”
