Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 526: Chapter 284: Tomorrow Is a New Day (Third Update)

Lawrence Winters spoke of things that the police weren’t aware of.

Upon hearing this from Lawrence, the officer immediately took it seriously and said, ”Where’s your friend? Can they testify for you?”

Lawrence nodded and first provided the number of Sister Three Billion.

But she remembered she didn’t have Ryan Sheldon’s number, so she had to say, ”There’s another person, the one who called the police today. He saw with his own eyes one of those five people drug my friend’s drink.”

The police officer asked, ”You don’t have the phone number of the person who called the police?”

Lawrence shook her head, ”I don’t, I’ve only met him once.”

The officer had to call their department to find the phone number of the person who reported the incident today.

Fortunately, Ryan Sheldon and Sister Three Billion were still in the parking lot.

Sister Three Billion’s phone couldn’t be reached, but the police quickly got in touch with Ryan Sheldon.

Ryan Sheldon immediately confirmed Lawrence Winters’ story, and added, ”I saw it with my own eyes! That person is definitely no good! Search him, and you’ll definitely find more than one packet of drugs!”

The police officer nodded, ”We will continue to investigate.”

As police officers, they can’t just listen to one side of the story.

However, Lawrence Winters and Ryan Sheldon’s statements corroborated some of the details.

Although they had some suspicions about Lawrence Winters, since she managed to take down five men and injure their critical parts, which was an undeniable fact.

But they also knew that if these people indeed had a history of drugging solitary women in bars, it was likely not their first time doing so.

This also explained why the five of them were present at the same place at the same time, all carrying knives.

After all, those knives were also brought back to the police station, where they would verify the fingerprints.

This case didn’t seem difficult, but due to the lack of surveillance and the suspicious nature of the assault, both sides had the grounds for argument, making it a classic case of ”both parties have valid points.”

The officer returned to the other side of the operating room, had a brief conversation with the person standing guard there, and searched the clothes of these people, indeed finding a considerable amount of illegal drugs, which was quite an eye-opener for them.

To be cautious, they collected blood samples and fingerprints from the five individuals, sent them back for DNA testing, while also searching the fingerprint database and comparing them with the fingerprints on the knives to see if they matched the five individuals.

Half an hour later, they received news from their tech lab: the fingerprints on the five knives matched those of the five individuals, and the DNA tests confirmed that all five had criminal records.

In fact, four of them were suspects in a sexual assault case being pursued by the Capital City’s police, while another was a suspect in an intentional injury case.

”Heh, they are quite bold indeed, truly not your average criminals. Should I praise them for their ’skills make them bold’?” a police officer sneered and returned to the emergency room on the other side, saying directly, ”All right, you’re off the hook. They thought they were so clever, doing everything seamlessly. Committing the same type of crime over and over again!”

Lawrence Winters was quite worried about being countersued by these five, otherwise she wouldn’t have deliberately let them cut her.

If not for that, her actions were undoubtedly excessive in defense.

But once she saw blood, the situation was different.

In that kind of situation, no matter how she retaliated, it wouldn’t be excessive.

Because facing five against one, the strength disparity was indeed overwhelming.

The police officer directly said, ”Rest assured, your actions were in legitimate self-defense, you won’t bear any criminal liability. As for them, they’re all suspects and will be handed over to various police departments to await trial after their surgeries.”

”Really? I’m truly okay? What if they still want to sue me?” Lawrence Winters looked uneasy, leaning against Kenneth Osborne and appearing timid.

”We’ll issue you a certificate proving that their accusations are unfounded and won’t proceed to court,” the officer reassured Lawrence Winters, ”Moreover, we should thank you. If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t have caught them. You’ve done us a great service, and we should be giving you a banner of recognition.”

Intentional injury is a criminal case, so the police need to file it, the prosecutor’s office needs to prosecute, and the court needs to accept it.

If the police do not acknowledge the existence of intentional injury and do not file the case, they cannot sue Lawrence Winters for intentional injury.

Lawrence Winters’ eyes instantly brightened, ”Really? They’re truly suspects?!”

This is indeed a meritorious deed.

”All of them are, and the rest is up to the prosecutor’s office to prosecute.”

Kenneth Osborne breathed a sigh of relief, but still planned to consult a lawyer the next day.

Lawrence Winters repeatedly thanked the police officer, then signed the statement, before leaving the hospital.

She got into Kenneth Osborne’s car and fretfully said, ”My car is still in the parking lot of that bar.”

Kenneth Osborne glanced at her, ”Did you call Sister Three Billion?”

Otherwise, why would you sneak out of the house in the middle of the night?

Lawrence Winters looked out of the car window embarrassedly, not daring to meet Kenneth Osborne’s gaze, and said in a low voice, ”...I sent a text at first, then wanted to sleep. Sister Three Billion called me, and I found out she was drunk. I also used Copper Coin to predict a bit and found she was in trouble. In a panic, I went out.”

Kenneth Osborne sighed, holding the steering wheel with both hands, drove steadily, and said calmly, ”You intervened, and her trouble was gone, but it transferred to you.”

He paused and continued, ”...When you went out, did you think of me? Did you think that I would also be worried?”

Lawrence Winters was originally worried that Kenneth Osborne would scold her, but unexpectedly, not only did he not scold her, he said such infinitely tender words.

Her face immediately blushed a bit, and she whispered, ”...I did think about it.”

”And how did you handle it?”

”I was afraid you’d worry, so I didn’t tell you.” Lawrence said self-righteously.

Kenneth closed his eyes, holding back his anger, and said, ”Didn’t you think about letting me know when you went out? I could have gone with you.”

”But you were working late! How could I disturb you? Besides, it wasn’t a big deal, I calculated it, I could handle it by myself, so I went.” Lawrence said with a bright smile, her voice carrying a hint of ingratiation.

Kenneth knew he shouldn’t say it, but he was too worried, too scared, thinking about today’s events. If it wasn’t for those people underestimating Lawrence, he couldn’t imagine the tragic fate she would have fallen into in those scoundrels’ hands!

He hesitated over and over, but finally said, ”...You can’t do this. What if your calculations were off? What if they were more vicious than you expected? Do you know how many women disappear suddenly in this world every day? Do you know what kind of fate they face?”

”But I calculated it!” Lawrence widened her eyes, ”Kenneth, I’m pretty accurate at calculating for others. There weren’t significant ups and downs or hardships for Sister San Yi, indicating the problem wasn’t big, so I went alone.”

”Moreover, I’ve practiced martial arts since childhood and prepared thoroughly, those scoundrels wouldn’t get the better of me.”

”And I helped the police catch those fleeing suspects; it’s an act of accumulating merit, not a bad thing.” Lawrence nodded with a smile, ”But Kenneth, since you’re worried about me, I’m so happy!”

Kenneth tugged at the corner of his mouth, self-mockingly saying, ”You’re my fiancée, if I weren’t worried, you should consider whether you should be marrying me.”

A fiancée being too capable and too independent is not a good thing either.

For such a big matter, how can you just run off on your own without saying a word?

Seeing that Lawrence had no intention of repenting, Kenneth finally said, ”Alright, from now on, remember, such matters must be discussed with me before making a decision. In the middle of the night, no girl would find it reasonable to run off without saying a word.”

Lawrence felt a bit frustrated, ”But I often went out at night before... with Uncle to check feng shui, most of the time it’s at night. Sometimes I also had to handle things on my own.”

Kenneth sighed helplessly, pursing his lips.

He used to think it was not good for women to depend on men for everything, but being too independent, now it doesn’t seem too good either.

Especially with Lawrence’s ”Heavenly Master” identity, it seemed to Kenneth like gambling with dice.

Plus, their calculations aren’t particularly accurate either...

Of course, Kenneth wouldn’t say this in front of Lawrence.

When getting out of the car, he carefully helped her out, saying, ”Last time when you engaged in a street race and ended up in the police station, I managed to smooth it over for you.”

”This time I can’t fix it; think about how to explain to Aunt Wen and Uncle Zhang.”

Only now did Lawrence start to feel the fear, her body trembling slightly, ”...Kenneth, what should I say? Help me...”

”If you had told me before you left, maybe I could have come up with a win-win idea. Now, in this state, I really can’t help.” Kenneth shrugged, steeling himself to let Lawrence learn a lesson.

He couldn’t possibly stay by Lawrence’s side twenty-four hours a day; if she continued to be so recklessly bold, she’d need to be taught a lesson.

Lawrence was almost in tears.

But she also knew Kenneth was right.

When she left the house, she really hadn’t expected such an outcome.

But she had gotten used to making her own decisions; does she need to start rethinking with Kenneth in mind in the future?

Lawrence returned home anxiously.

Fortunately, it was the middle of the night, and Gabrielle Winters, Nick Zeller, and the old Daoist were asleep, so she didn’t have to face them yet.

After returning to her bedroom, she ostrich-like thought, it’s okay, deal with it tomorrow.

Tomorrow is a new day.

...

The next day, when she woke up, she found it was almost eight o’clock.

When she moved, the discomfort in her arm revealed itself.

Lawrence grimaced, taking half an hour with one hand to wash up and get dressed.

Gabrielle looked puzzled, seeing Kenneth sitting leisurely in the dining room browsing his phone, and said, ”Kenneth, Nora hasn’t gotten up yet, aren’t you going to check on her?”

”She should be up soon.” Kenneth glanced at his watch, ”Let’s wait a bit.”

Nick chuckled, ”I’ll go see.”

Just as he stood up and turned around, he saw Lawrence with one arm wrapped like a dumpling, hanging from her neck, walking into the dining room looking guilty.

”Lawrence, what happened to your arm?” Gabrielle and Nick asked simultaneously.

The old Daoist also lifted his eyelids for a glance, nonchalantly saying, ”A disaster of bloodshed, what else could it be?”
