Chapter 1285: Chapter 551: Sighs of Admiration

Despite the inevitable impact on spring farming by recruiting such a large army at this time, Laine and the others could not afford to worry about this.

If Mathew Bade conquers the capital, that would be the disastrous outcome.

Fortunately, Laine already had a plan in advance. He had anticipated the need to recruit peasants and planned how many could be mobilized if the battle turned unfavorable. Thus, after one command, Kingdom Knights Lops and Olivier, who remained at the territory, immediately responded according to the original plan to recruit the army, and Veronica, who had prepared for a long time, also brought a team of witch apprentices to the front line.

After spending considerable time resting and gathering, Laine then ordered the southern Knightly Army to prepare for departure.

But not even Mathew Bade expected the southern Knightly Army to be faster than him, and when Mathew Bade entered the Le Anglong Duchy, about a hundred kilometers away from Kulona, Laine’s army had already passed through the Arden Forest and camped on its edge, now less than fifty kilometers from Kulona.

How could Laine’s army move so swiftly?

This was indeed thanks to the participation of Wood Elves. Both the Forest King Olein and Queen of the Forest Airel understood well that if Mathew Bade succeeded in becoming the King of Brittania, the kingdom would transform into a realm ruled by the Undead, which was intolerable for Wood Elves. So when Laine and the others were still discussing whether to detour through Leonais or traverse the Arden Forest, Olein appeared, and the Forest King stated there was no need for such hassle.

We take the shortcut.

Brittania was once one of the most important colonies of the Elf Empire in the Old World, and the Wood Elves were established when High Elves, unwilling to retreat from the Old World, chose to stay and live in the forests, thereby splitting into Wood Elves.

Therefore, Wood Elves have left Guiding Stones scattered throughout Brittania, and the roots of the Era Oak stretch across the world. Though some have withered and decayed under the influence of Chaos, most roots still survive, allowing Wood Elves to traverse vast regions across the world.

The Wood Elves activated the roots of Era Oak, revealing a pathway to Kulona before everyone’s eyes.

It was a sea of green, and after Era Oak’s roots cleared a path for everyone, the mysterious underground world unfolded before them, with the voices of the Forest Essence echoing through the tunnels, and pure Life Energy resonating within them. The Imperial Army was astonished beyond words, as though witnessing a new continent, while Brittania’s knights had a deeper understanding; for years, knights always believed Aisloron to be haunted and hated land, never imagining its dwellers possessed such mighty powers, and could freely traverse Brittania’s sacred land.

Naturally, borrowing Wood Elves’ paths meant both humans and dwarves must heed the Wood Elves’ words, lest these forest inhabitants chant a single Spell to instantly bury the entire army underground. Dwarves might survive by tunneling, while humans wouldn’t last a few days.

As humans and dwarves entered the underground, Wood Elves issued a warning that if any dared to chop wood or try to harm the World Tree’s roots, Eslelin would shred them to nourish the land.

Especially the dwarves, historically these mountain people had organized numerous exploration parties into Aisloron seeking quality hardwood and gemstone veins, all of which ended in annihilation.

As anticipated by Wood Elves, dwarves marveled at the underground environment, filled with thoughts of collecting samples for research, though constrained by prior promises from taking action. Belgar observed Era Oak’s roots closely, muttering, ”Honestly, these top-grade hardwoods can make so many tools. Cutting a bit won’t matter—it grows back soon enough, right?”

”If you dare touch the Era Oak, I’ll cut off your head.” Alaros, walking alongside, threatened grimly, ”I mean it, dwarf.”

”Hmph, if you have the guts, come try; who cuts who is uncertain, damn sharp ears.” Belgar grumbled, soon realizing they were allies for now, and if those sharp ears abandoned him underground, what then?

”I mean, uh, sharp ear friend, your ears are indeed sharp and long, like your Long Spear is soft and dull, but your archery is decent—just slightly inferior to dwarves,” Belgar hastily amended.

Alaros felt exasperated, nearly had the urge to thrust his Long Spear at Belgar’s face—was this a compliment? Might be better left unsaid! He sensed Belgar was provoking a fight, and resolved that without risking Lilith Goddess’s displeasure, Alaros wouldn’t challenge Belgar to a duel.

Both stood at roughly Legendary Peak strength, with Alaros being much younger, and Belgar battle-tested; Wood Elves, enjoying long lifespans, truly embraced coexistence with nature, ensuring Wood Elves were the longest-lived among Elves, many surviving two to three thousand years.
