Warhammer Divine Throne

Chapter 1261: Chapter 542: The Great Battle of Landuin Tomb (Part 1)

Early April, Musillon, the Cursed Lands.

Laine, Francois, Bohemond, Mogiana, and Kaled led the last fresh troops of Brittania, marching along the Grismore River.

Landuin’s Tomb lay not far away, and in the early spring, a fine drizzle fell from the sky while spring thunder echoed through the swamps of Musillon, casting a deep shadow over the army.

Everyone could feel that the great battle was near; knights were arranging their armor, Lake God Prophets were reciting spells, musketeers were checking their firearms, and Dwarves were singing loudly, telling stories of the Dwarf Mountain Kingdom.

Five Holy Sanctuary Powerhouses rode at the front, the fine spring rain beating against the Spiritual Masterwork Power Armor worn by Laine. This armor had been damaged many times, but Laine always managed to use spiritual energy to make it self-repair.

Now, the Divine Chosen Champion of the Lake Fairy had already drawn the sword, Goddess of Revenge. The runes on this Divine Artifact shone brightly, blessed and empowered by the Master of Humans, enveloping Laine in a pale blue glow. He felt the silver flames burning on the sword with his hand, silently.

As expected, both Angerong and the Imperial Guard refused Laine’s request for deployment.

Laine was originally unable to command the Emperor’s Guard; these four corn cobs, with the Emperor’s authority, now guard the pregnant knight twenty-four hours a day, and they would not deploy due to Laine’s request.

Regarding Angerong, after Laine communicated with him using spiritual energy, the World-Devourer Primarch laughed and said, ”I’m not your bodyguard or your subordinate; I’m your brother. You are the Grey Knight Primarch; I will not assist you, just as our father did not help me. You must bear the responsibility and duty of being a Primarch and step through what a Primarch is destined to experience.”

Laine had nothing but a wry smile after hearing this; ten thousand years had passed, and Angerong still bore a grudge.

However, from some perspective, what Angerong said made sense. Neither the Emperor nor Angerong wished for Laine to become dependent on them. In this dark era, Laine had no one to rely on but himself.

A faint wind mixed with the fine drizzle continued to drift in from the southwest as the season turned to spring; snow began to melt, making the roads across Musillon extremely muddy, and the knights’ advancement became very difficult.

The Undead may not have planned to repair roads at all; Vampires liked swamps because they didn’t hinder the movements of the Undead but significantly impeded other armies.

”You should have told me earlier, young Laine,” Duke Bastogne, ”Beast Butcher” Bohemond, clad in the full set of enchanted rune plate armor ”Fire Dragon’s Breath,” pulled the reins of his armored Elf Warhorse and spoke in a gruff voice to Laine: ”Guarding the land blessed by the Goddess is the duty of every knight in the Kingdom; you shouldn’t consider reclaiming Musillon as your own task.”

The Red Dragon Duke had apparently wanted to join this war for a long time. In recent years, he had not gained any major glory and military achievements, only frequently clearing Beastman Tribes in the Arden Forest. While Francois and Laine were earning fame in the Old World by overcoming the Undead Grand Mage Kemler and his Ancient Tomb Legion in the Battle of Black Stone Stronghold and the La-Mesnil Abbey battle, Bohemond had only slain one Beastman Beast King. This humiliation was enough to anger this devout and martial heir of Arthur: ”I won’t refuse to help you.”

Laine found himself at a loss for words, thinking to himself that if you help me, then the nature of this war changes!

Duke Bohemond was a direct descendant of Arthur, naturally possessed the qualification to be king, and after John II was deposed, Bohemond nearly was crowned directly as king.

As one of the contenders for the throne, Laine definitely did not want Bohemond to be involved. It’s fine for the army of the Bastogne Duchy to participate in reclaiming Musillon, but Bohemond himself joining is concerning. If it weren’t truly out of necessity, Laine would not have written to ask Bohemond to deploy, as the campaign against Musillon was a rivalry between him and Lorne.

However, when Chaos appeared and the Great Demon of Tzeentch began collecting Holy Artifacts, the situation changed; now this war was no longer a battle for the throne.

Now, Laine and the others were fighting to protect this nation!

”Bohemond, don’t be too harsh on Laine; no one could predict that this war would turn out this way.” Francois retained his gentle and wise demeanor, speaking kindly to offer comfort: ”If it weren’t absolutely necessary, he would not have asked us to help.”

”Hmm?” Bohemond was initially confused, taking a minute to understand Francois’s implicit meaning, muttering to himself: ”I really have no interest in the throne, young Laine. Do I look like someone who enjoys sitting on the throne dealing with various government affairs all day? I’d rather be killed! I’m a Holy Grail Knight, a descendant of Arthur; the battlefield is my home. I already refused once when John II abdicated, and when Richard planned to abdicate, I refused again. I really don’t want to be king.”

”Some things aren’t as simple as personal wishes,” Laine also sincerely stated: ”We mutually understand, Master Bohemond, but becoming king is the choice of all nobles; it’s the Lady’s choice, often unrelated to our own decisions. When responsibility falls upon us, we must bear it, just as you chose between guarding the Lady’s Holy Land and protecting your people.”
