Chapter 1256: Chapter 540: Revealing the Truth

Inside the tent, everyone looked at the appearing Vampire Baron. Fidmund’s face showed disgust, Jerald was puzzled, Mogiana wished to kill immediately, while Teresa bore a look of indifference and haughtiness.

But everyone held their weapons silently and turned their gaze to Laine.

”Do you think I would be willing to trust you?” Laine sneered, ”Why would I trust the words of a vampire? You want to surrender to me? Do you even know if you have the right to surrender?!”

The Vampire Baron lowered his head, adopting a respectful stance: ”I have four reasons to surrender to you. Please let me finish, Lord Laine Macado. If you’re still not satisfied after hearing me, you can take action directly.”

”What if I don’t want to listen?” Laine elongated his tone, ”The vampires of the von Castain Clan have betrayal and deceit flowing through their veins. What you say could all be lies.”

”I can swear to the Blood Ancestor Vlad of the von Castain Clan that what I say is true.” Vampire Baron Har Harris watched as Laine drew the Goddess of Revenge, its blade engulfed in silver flames, releasing immense energy.

This sword alone could claim Har Harris’s life, and he very much doubted if he could resurrect.

Vampires’ lives are not only eternal but can be resurrected multiple times. However, resurrection comes at a significant cost, and if faced with particularly powerful enemies or weapons, even the Undead cannot resurrect.

Only Vlad von Castain could rely on the Divine Artifact, the Castain Ring, for unlimited resurrection. Therefore, during the Vampire War’s final assault on Brunswick, the empire despaired facing Vlad, who could revive no matter how many times he was killed.

Finally, Archbishop Wilhelm III, upon studying ancient texts, discovered the secret of Vlad’s unlimited resurrection. He hired the strongest thief from the slums to infiltrate the vampire camp and steal Vlad’s ring. Thus, the first generation Vampire Count Vlad, who never considered what would happen if the ring was lost, fell, having been dead for several centuries now.

”Manfred said the same thing.” Laine sneered.

Har Harris’s face subtly changed, cursing Manfred, this double-crosser and traitor, in his heart. He once considered defecting to Manfred but quickly dismissed the idea; he wasn’t a direct bloodline of Manfred, and the bald Manfred might send him to his death at any moment.

”Betrayal feels like breathing.”

”I will leave no stone unturned,” Har Harris whispered, ”I presume, Lord Laine, you also want to know what happened at Richard Castle while you battled Tzeentch’s Demon Army?”

The atmosphere inside the tent changed. Laine furrowed his brows, thought for a moment, and then sheathed the Goddess of Revenge: ”Fine, speak then.”

”Firstly, you are incredibly powerful, Lord Laine. Even the Undead respect the strong,” Har Harris’s hoarse voice carried a mysterious tone, ”Secondly, Chaos is our common enemy. I cannot tolerate our leader bowing to Chaos. The war between the Undead and humans is one thing, but Chaos exists only to destroy everything.”

After speaking, Har Harris suddenly laughed, whispering, ”Third, I can tell you everything I know, including about the battles at Richard Castle, the secrets of Mathew Bade’s background, the orders of Witch Demon King Akhan, and... Mathew Bade’s dealings with Chaos, how he made deals with the Great Demon of Tzeentch, and what the demon’s goals are.”

Upon hearing this, Laine shook his head coldly and said firmly, ”If that’s all, then death still awaits you. I’ve already sent Rangers north to scout these situations. As for Witch Demon King Akhan’s plan, it’s nothing more than intending to resurrect the Master of the Undead, and I’m not interested in Mathew Bade’s background; he has plagued Brittania for too long, and it’s time to take him down.”

”Quickly tell me the fourth point, or I’ll act soon!”

Har Harris realized Laine wasn’t pretending to threaten but genuinely intended to kill him, so he hurriedly said, ”The fourth point is that I have stolen the Duke of Musillon’s Crown from Musillon Castle! If you accept my surrender, I will hand it over to you!”

The vampire baron’s words left everyone inside the tent agape.

This vampire baron of the von Castain Clan, wasn’t he just too much of a double-crosser?!

Had he even planned his own escape route?

”...I really don’t know how to evaluate your actions.” Laine was also speechless after hearing this. He exchanged a glance with Mogiana.

The Lake God Witch nodded immediately, hinting that she could assess its authenticity.

”All right, you’ve convinced me.” Laine finally nodded in resignation. He was not an uncompromising person: ”Then, tell me, what do you want? The Undead? What do you want from the Divine Chosen Champion of the Lady of the Lake after betraying your master?”

”Freedom!”

”...Deal!”

The Vampire Baron’s gaze swept around inside the tent, showing a hesitant expression, then signaling to Laine with his eyes.

”Speak quickly, or is the Castain family plotting some intrigue again?” Laine’s gaze sharpened as he glared at the Vampire Baron: ”I have no secrets I’m ashamed to reveal.”
