Chapter 1259: Chapter 541: Reinforcements Assemble

When Laine welcomed the Brittania and Imperial alliance led by Kaled and Duke Hagen within the camp, it was already early morning.

This army had barely over three thousand men, and nearly everyone was wounded. Their supplies had long been exhausted, and upon reaching the vicinity of Sharp-Top Palace, the ruins of the melted castle nearly drove them to despair. They even believed that the knightly army from the south had already been utterly defeated.

Thankfully, Laine had arranged for Rangers to be on guard on the outskirts. After spotting the knight army, Bertrand decided to make contact despite opposition, and only then did the remaining Brittania Knights and Imperial Army cross the floating bridge under the cover of moonlight and reach the camp in Charon Forest.

At this time, the Brittania army had only over eight hundred knights and Knight’s Squires left. On the Imperial side, there were about a hundred Imperial Knights, roughly two thousand five hundred soldiers of the Imperial Army, and of the twenty cannons, only eight remained. Only four Hellstorm Rocket Cannons were left, but fortunately, the most powerful Hellstorm Rapid-Fire Cannon was still intact.

To attack Musillon, Laine had prepared sufficient food and military supplies. The army was clearly starving, so in the middle of the night, fires were lit in the camp to cook food for them.

This defeated army arriving at the camp clearly brought an even greater impact to Laine’s forces. Although Laine had tightly sealed the news, claiming that Kaled and others actively joined him, many knights could still guess that something had happened to the knightly army in the north.

The emotions of everyone were conflicted. On the one hand, two defeated armies entwined together, inevitably affecting each other’s morale. Laine’s army had already tasted defeat at Sharp-Top Palace, and with the arrival of this army, the knights’ morale further declined.

On the other hand, Kaled triumphantly raised the head of the Mad Duke Merovin, indicating that the Mad Duke Merovin had been beheaded. This mad duke, who had once brought endless suffering to Brittania, had perished once again at the hands of the brave Holy Grail Knights. This seemed to emphasize that there was still hope for victory in this war, and the arrival of the Imperial Army also kindled a bit of hope in the knights’ hearts.

At the dining table, everyone exchanged intelligence. Already in war-weary fatigue, Kaled and Duke Hagen of Jisoleox were rendered speechless upon hearing Laine’s reports.

The Tzeentch’s Demon Army had also joined this war?

Duke Hagen had sustained some minor injuries, and his prized antler cross helmet had cracked. On hearing of the current situation, he snorted with anger, holding a roasted leg of lamb, biting into the fatty, greasy meat, and mumbled, ”Chaos is here too? Damn it! The whole of Musillon has become a complete mess!”

”We also saw battles between Green Skin Tribes and Beastman Tribes on the way,” Imperial General Dietrich nodded. This Imperial General was covered in blood and mud, his meticulously groomed beard and hair now filthy and matted. Laine noticed that his beard and hair strands had clumped together. Dietrich and Boris von Rukov felt uneasy under Laine’s gaze.

Before coming to Brittania, both had met Emmanuelle at the Nuer court. This pregnant new Duchess met them under the protection of many guards, encouraged them warmly, and instructed them, if they saw Laine, to be polite and to visit Surya Sister if given the chance.

However, both Dietrich and Boris felt uncomfortable looking at Laine, remembering that it was this man who had been with Emmanuelle, the Duchess, made them inexplicably displeased. After all, countless Imperial Nobility dreamed of marrying the Duchess of Nuer, the Female Prince-Elector, and the Duchess of Weisen. Even though Dietrich and Boris already had families, they still felt displeased.

Men are like that.

Fortunately, Laine did not pay much attention to them, evidently preoccupied with other thoughts. He exchanged only a few pleasantries before dismissing them. Dietrich and Boris von Rukov delivered the prepared diplomatic greetings: ”We bring greetings from Duchess Emmanuelle, wishing Count Laine and Countess Surya good health. The beloved Lady has a question for the honorable Lord Laine, asking when you plan to visit Nuer to see your son?”

The resentment and discontent in the greeting was palpable to everyone in the tent. Laine felt awkward after hearing it and quickly replied, ”Not until the war ends.”

”Now that we are united, we have at most over six thousand men, but the army morale is low and very tired,” Kaled observed Laine’s embarrassment and helped extricate him from the situation. His face was full of fatigue, both from defeat and from the complexity of the war, which was rare for a Holy Grail Knight. Without Kaled’s valiant battles, this army that had marched urgently in Musillon for over three days might have vanished forever on this corrupted, fallen land of Musillon: ”Do we have reinforcements, Lord Laine?”

”The reinforcements from Francois and Duke Bohemond are already on the way,” Laine frowned and said to everyone present, ”They will join us shortly, and apart from that, the Sea God Knights of Duke Bodric are also on their way.”
