Chapter 1144: Chapter 496: The Deal Scene (Part 2)

”What about you?” Veronica continued to ask.

”My master expelled Asuyan’s curse for me.” In the amber eyes of the Dark Elf, there was a faint emotion: ”His Spiritual Barrier not only shields me from the gaze of Slaanesh but also helped me rid myself of Asuyan’s curse, which all Elves, including the Witch King himself, tried to escape but never succeeded. Yet, my master achieved it.”

”No wonder you are so devoted to Laine,” Veronica finally understood.

The Dark Elf’s allegiance is far more complicated than it appears on the surface. Ollica ultimately submitted, loyally serving as Laine’s maid, solely because Laine himself is too unique. No other human, no matter how powerful, could ever win the heart of this Dark Elf before us!

”Lady Ollica.” Veronica put down the makeup box and suddenly smiled.

”Hmm?”

”I like Laine, and you like Laine. In essence, shouldn’t we be on the same side?” Veronica said with a gleeful smile.

”...In theory, yes.” Ollica hesitated for a moment but eventually agreed.

”Then that’s settled.”

...--- This is the line for pillow talk ---...

In Laine’s small tent, there was not much noise, and no one noticed the activity. At this moment, many Sea God Knights and Great Nobles were having a meeting in the large tent.

Holy Grail Knight Fedmond arrived late because he was out surveying the terrain, and he quickly walked into the large tent. Inside, it was already filled with Sea God Knights. Duke Bodric and Count Glamorgan Lane sat across from each other on opposite sides, Bodric on the right and Lane on the left, indicating his prestigious position just beneath Duke Bodric.

Seeing Fedmond enter, Sir Houlf, the deputy leader of the Sea God Knight Order, and Bodric’s Magic Consultant voluntarily gave way to a seat. Fedmond knew this was his position, ranked fourth among everyone in the tent, higher than all the Knights but lower than Bodric, Lane, and Sir Houlf.

”Fedmond, my son, you’ve handled this matter beautifully.” Duke Boldro, fully armed, looked at his son sitting down with a joyful expression, which was rare for the always serious and authoritative Bodric: ”Not only have you managed to avoid falling out with the local nobility, but you’ve also opened up new trade routes for us, well done.”

Listening to his father’s praise, the Holy Grail Knight felt rather strange. He immediately bowed his head and said, ”This is all due to Lord Laine’s diplomatic prowess, not mine, Father. I won’t steal another’s credit.”

”But you followed his instructions, which is a significant progress.” Duke Bodric stroked his goatee, nodding contentedly and repeatedly: ”Now do you understand the difference between guarding the Goddess’s land as a Holy Grail Knight and managing a territory as a competent lord?”

”Yes... Father.” Fedmond reluctantly lowered his head.

The father and son had often clashed over internal affairs. Fedmond had long felt that many of Bodric’s administrative measures and problem-solving methods were not knightly enough, which explained why he hadn’t become a Holy Grail Knight. But upon witnessing how Laine resolved issues, Fedmond grudgingly admitted that there was indeed a way to balance both, he simply lacked the skill.

”Lord Laine became a Holy Grail Knight nine years ago at twenty-four, Lord Kaled just recently became a Holy Grail Knight at thirty-eight, Fedmond, my son, you became a Holy Grail Knight at fifty-three, you should frequently consult these seniors and not assume that gaining the Lady’s approval means you know how to govern your duchy. You still have much to learn.” Bodric said heavily.

”Fedmond learns quickly.” Laine nodded with a smile: ”There must be a process; guarding the lands bestowed upon us by the Lady is the best devotion to her. Fedmond is your heir; he will one day inherit your title, so he cannot guard the Lady’s Holy Land like other Holy Grail Knights.”

”Fedmond has very high potential, my Duke. He’s just a bit unaccustomed, and with an outstanding mentor like Laine, there’s no need for much time,” Sir Houlf, the deputy leader of the Sea God Knight Order, quickly added: ”In only two weeks, there’s already a big difference.”

”Yes, that’s why I asked you to mentor him. The future belongs to young people like you.” Duke Bodric mentioned this only briefly, seeing that his words had taken effect. He then signaled the Attendant to take out a map.

The military council was about to be convened, and all the Knights sat up straight, attentively listening.

We plan to ambush those Rogue Knights on the Moros Plains, hence I’ve chosen this location. Duke Bodric pointed to a flat terrain on the Moros Plains: ”The Rogue Knights are scheduled to deliver here, so we’ll ambush them.”

”But my Duke, won’t this give the Rogue Knights a strong positional advantage? We will charge out from the woods, while the Rogue Knights, located on the plains, can easily form a line and charge at us.” A Sea God Knight raised an objection, believing that giving away the terrain advantage wasn’t a good strategy.
