Chapter 1120: Chapter 486: It Was All a Vampire Conspiracy! (Part 2)

”...To silence a witness.” The left side of Dark Elf Ollica’s face had swollen up, her mask had been torn off, and she was wounded in several places. Ollica’s complexion didn’t look good either; this battle had forced her to expend most of her stored Magic Power, and her soul was damaged, leaving her unable to replenish it on her own.

”To silence a witness?” Fidmund asked suspiciously, his gaze tinged with wariness and distrust.

This battle did not satisfy the Holy Grail Knight at all, because the Dark Elf’s ambush and the Temple Knights’ muskets were hardly noble tactics. In Fidmund’s eyes, this wasn’t a duel at all!

Luckily the enemy was a Vampire, so there was no need to be overly particular about the Knightly Path. Fidmund felt only a faint dissatisfaction; as the future heir to the title of Duke Boldro, he had of course received excellent courtly education, and such minor displeasure would never show on his face.

Moreover, Fidmund faintly sensed a new insight: he felt that many times one mustn’t drown clinging to some rotten dogma, especially when facing non-human races.

Duke Bodric’s eldest legitimate son felt he ought to learn more from Laine. Perhaps this way of handling things was precisely the difference between a Divine Chosen Champion and an ordinary Holy Grail Knight. Fidmund believed that the quality Laine carried himself with was something very necessary and worth learning for a Holy Grail Knight.

This time, his father inviting Lord Laine to help had really been a brilliant idea.

”Yes, to silence a witness.” The beautiful Dark Elf stretched out her small hand wrapped in deerskin gloves. Her expression was icy, yet what she did next shocked Fidmund and Alfred.

Ollica desecrated the soul of the dead Wandering Knight. She used Dark Magic to summon the Wandering Knight’s soul back, then cruelly read through his memories.

The process was extremely cruel. The Wandering Knight’s soul was shrieking madly, letting out agonized wails; a soul that had been desecrated would never know peace, never.

”Heart-Gouging Agony!” The Dark Elf seemed completely unaware of her own cruelty. She increased the power, forcing the soul to spit out everything it knew. Under the Dark Elf’s torment, this wisp of soul twisted into a wad of cotton fluff, driven almost insane by the pain.

”Mind Reading!” Then the Dark Elf began to use vile magic to read the Wandering Knight’s memories and thoughts. She looked extremely used to this method of interrogation, performing it with flawless proficiency.

”No! You cannot do this! Dark Elf! You’re desecrating a Knight’s soul! If you do this, you will be cursed by the Lady and never know peace for all eternity!” The Holy Grail Knight roared in fury.

Alfred, who had vomited until he was half-dead, also glared angrily at Ollica’s actions.

”Shut up. I don’t worship your Goddess. If you still want to complete the mission, if you still want to know where your Duke of Boldro’s Family heirloom went, then let me finish questioning him,” Ollica said calmly. ”Or, if you absolutely insist, I can stop right now—at which point the last thread of our clues will vanish.”

”...” Fidmund and Alfred both fell silent; they had no choice but to turn their heads aside and pretend not to see.

After a while, Laine and Veronica returned. Seeing the situation in the city, with their many years of adventuring experience, they immediately judged that Fidmund’s side must have made some kind of discovery. ”What happened, what’s going on?”

”Oh my, oh my~ I come back and the first thing I see is three patients.” Veronica noticed the state of the room; the Jialan Witch’s gaze shifted to the stone table, and she couldn’t help exclaiming in surprise: ”Good heavens, you actually took down a High-Rank Vampire?”

When she saw Laine come in, Ollica immediately stopped the cruel interrogation. She ceased casting Dark Magic, and the cold expression on her face turned frail and pitiful. The coquettish Dark Elf pretended to be badly hurt, and simply collapsed into Laine’s arms, snuggling against his chest as she whined, ”Master~ the enemy was so hard to deal with, I’ve almost used up all my Magic Power~”

Looking at the Dark Elf whose face was swollen, Laine felt a twinge of distress. He hurriedly signaled the Attendants to boil some water, then applied ointment to Ollica’s face and had her lie down properly. He even bent down and kissed her lightly on the forehead. ”It’s fine. Rest well. I’m here.”

”Mm!” With a blush on her cheeks, the Dark Elf leaned against Laine.

The Holy Grail Knight and the Temple Knights all had black lines running down their faces at this sight.

Something about this felt seriously off.

”How’s the situation? Fidmund? You’re hurt?” Only after settling his Dark Elf Maid and letting her lie down did Laine finally ask about what had happened.

”We investigated the inn. That group of Wandering Knights had already left, but they left one man behind in the inn’s cellar to wait for news. We found the one on guard...” Fidmund cast his gaze toward the dead Wandering Knight’s corpse, then continued, ”But he was already dead, killed by this High-Rank Vampire.”

”A High-Rank Vampire of the Lemya family?” Laine nodded. ”You dealt with her? No wonder you’re all hurt. Well? Did you gain anything?”

”That’s something you’ll have to ask your Dark Elf Maid.” Alfred let out a mocking little laugh. ”She’s the one who knows the most.”

Fidmund, however, kept his mouth firmly shut.

The Holy Grail Knight suddenly felt a deep sympathy for Laine’s situation.

Just what kind of people did the Lady’s Divine Chosen Champion have around him?

With a Dark Elf Maid like this at his side, Lord Laine must have a very hard time in his daily life, right? For Lord Laine, as the Lady’s Divine Chosen Champion, Holy Grail Knight Commander, and a paragon of the Knightly Path, to endure having such a Dark Elf Maid by his side must be a profound torment, mustn’t it?
