Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1889: Chapter 1890: Turning a Blind Eye

Feng Feiyan said, ”They truly have talent, and even if you hadn’t let me do this, I would have considered it. Wufeng lacks talented people, and we must not let their abilities go to waste. Besides, they have great ambitions and a heart for the country. Appointing Zou Qian as Vice Minister and conferring the title of General to Liang Zhiyao and Sheng Qingfeng are quite appropriate.”

It is evident that Feng Feiyan promised the three that not only would they safely leave the palace without implicating their families, but also that Zou Qian would be appointed Vice Minister, and Liang Zhiyao and Sheng Qingfeng would become Generals.

Su Yi Jing said, ”The positions of Vice Minister and General are critical, pillars of the nation. By the time they are appointed, even if their families are dissatisfied with your decision to let them leave the palace, there will be little resentment.”

”You are more thoughtful than I am. However, it surely will create an uproar since it has never happened that someone from the harem leaves the palace and is given such appointments.”

”What’s there to fear,” Su Yi Jing was unconcerned, ”If your father dared to appoint you as the Emperor, what is there for you to fear in granting them such roles?”

”Indeed.” Feng Feiyan laughed. Compared to the uproar her father’s insistence on making her the Emperor caused, allowing Zou Qian and the others to be appointed Generals was just child’s play.

Su Yi Jing continued, ”Even if you don’t dare, am I not here to support you?”

Feng Feiyan nodded with a smile: ”Yes.” Now, she had support, and her support was him.

Unlike before, when she bore everything alone.

”From now on, you’ll stay in Jingchen Palace,” Su Yi Jing suddenly proposed.

”Isn’t that inappropriate...”

”What’s inappropriate about it? Consider it as you bestowing favor on me every day. Your mother is eager for you to get pregnant and give birth to an heir so that all of Wufeng can be at ease.” The Wufeng royal family was truly sparse in number, as one could tell from Feiyan’s father, who had only her as a child.

If Feng Feiyan couldn’t bear offspring, one could imagine how worried all of Wufeng would be.

Feng Feiyan blushed, lowered her head, and twisted her hands together, murmuring softly, ”Having a child isn’t something I can do just because I want to...”

Su Yi Jing leaned close to her ear, deliberately exhaling warmly: ”I will make every effort to ensure you conceive.”

Feng Feiyan’s face turned an even deeper shade of red, utterly embarrassed, and she pushed Su Yi Jing away before running off.

Su Yi Jing did not give chase but smiled uncontrollably as he watched her figure disappear. Only then did he withdraw his gaze, leisurely pouring himself a cup of tea, sipping it languidly.

This kind of life was good.

When she no longer had to be Emperor and returned with him to Xiyun, they would stay by his parents’ side, serving them, and life would surely be even better than now. He was full of anticipation.

...

In the following days, it was true that Feng Feiyan spent every night at Jingchen Palace. In the eyes of everyone, it indicated that she solely favored Su Yi Jing, the Xiao Guijun.

Zou Qian, Liang Zhiyao, and Sheng Qingfeng were especially pleased that they no longer had to entertain the Emperor in the way consorts did, and were particularly grateful for Su Yi Jing’s presence, believing he was their savior.

However, the Retired Emperor and Empress Dowager expressed some opinions, feeling that Feng Feiyan should also stay at Zou Qian and the others’ palaces occasionally.

Even if Feng Feiyan didn’t like Zou Qian and the others, she should at least show some favor for the sake of their maternal families.

But considering that Feng Feiyan had only visited Zou Qian and the others’ palaces sporadically before, and now stayed at Jingchen Palace every night, it was believed she was more likely to become pregnant. With this in mind, even if the Retired Emperor and Empress Dowager thought Feng Feiyan’s actions were inappropriate, they chose to turn a blind eye.
