Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1869: Chapter 1870: I’m Not Suffering

The son does not eat or drink, so they can’t eat either.

Xiao Changyi does not care about himself, he’s just heartbroken for his wife. And also his son.

Even though he reproaches his son, he still feels for him and doesn’t actually blame him at all.

”Father, it’s unfilial of me...” Su Yi Jing’s head hit the ground as he choked with emotion, trembling all over.

”Alright, get up.” Xiao Changyi eventually compromised, accepted it, and helped Su Yi Jing up from the ground. Because he had knelt for too long, Su Yi Jing couldn’t stand and could only sit.

Seeing Su Yi Jing sitting on a chair, Xiao Changyi then said, ”It’s already December. In a few days, it will be the New Year. After the New Year, you can leave. During these days, spend some good time with your mother, for you will be gone for five years.”

”Hmm.” A single word, choked with emotion.

...

Wufeng Kingdom.

On December 20th, Feng Feiyan finally returned to the capital of Wufeng Kingdom. Upon entering the Imperial Palace, Feng Feiyan hesitated for three days before telling her father and mother that she wanted to appoint another noble consort.

The Retired Emperor and Empress Dowager were both very surprised. Previously, with much persuasion, they got her to accept one Empress and two noble consorts for the stability of Wufeng and the throne. They didn’t expect that now, she would take the initiative to appoint another noble consort.

The Retired Emperor, in poor health and lacking energy, was curious but too weak to ask, so the Empress Dowager spoke, ”Feiyan, which family’s young man do you want to appoint as a noble consort?”

Feng Feiyan replied, ”Not from any particular family, just a farmer’s son who once saved me in Xiyun.”

”A farmer’s son, how can he be appointed as a noble consort?” The Empress Dowager immediately shook her head, indicating it was not possible. ”If you want to repay him for saving your life, just give him more money as a thank you.”

”Mother, I like him, and he saved me. Why couldn’t I appoint him as a noble consort? Since I am the Emperor, can’t I even appoint someone I like? Otherwise, what’s the point of being Emperor?”

”Feiyan, you...” Her daughter had never spoken so bluntly to her before, making it difficult for the Empress Dowager to accept momentarily.

Feng Feiyan was already in a bad mood, and afraid that her mother and father would really prevent her from appointing Su Yi Jing as a noble consort. If so, Su Yi Jing might really lead an army against Wufeng. So her tone had been a bit rushed and sharp.

But when she saw the look of disbelief on her mother’s face, she realized her tone was wrong and quickly apologized, ”Mother, I’ve been dealing with a lot of official documents these days, causing insomnia, so I’m a bit out of sorts. I didn’t mean to use such a bad tone with you, mother, please don’t mind.”

The Empress Dowager held one of her hands and smiled, ”You indeed have many affairs being the Emperor, take good care of your health.”

After a pause, the Empress Dowager sighed, ”Mother and your father know you don’t want to be this Emperor, but what can be done? Your uncle is power-hungry, holds extreme resentment towards your father, thinking the throne should have been his, not your father’s. If he becomes Emperor, neither your father, mother, nor you would have good days. Moreover, there is no suitable candidate in the clan to be the Emperor, so it can only burden you.”

”Mother, don’t say that.” To make her mother feel better, Feng Feiyan falsely comforted, ”I’m not suffering, not at all. Which woman in the world doesn’t envy me? Others at most are Empresses, second only to one person, while I am above everyone.”
