Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1867: Chapter 1868: Are You Really Confident?

Also, without waiting for An Jing and Xiao Changyi to speak, Su Yi Jing hurriedly promised: ”Father, Mother, rest assured, I am your son, no matter what. I will make sure not to let myself suffer any grievances on this trip.”

Upon hearing this, An Jing cried again: ”Just going there means you will suffer grievances!”

”Mother...” Seeing his mother in such distress, ever-filial Su Yi Jing felt genuinely uncomfortable.

If he wasn’t aware that taking actions first without consulting them would make his parents more intolerable, he wouldn’t have done so. Otherwise, he would have gone to Wufeng already and wouldn’t have come back in person to talk to his parents.

”Jing’er, can you listen to your mother? Consider it a plea from your mother, alright?” An Jing pleaded tearfully.

Su Yi Jing finally couldn’t control the redness in his eyes, choking up: ”Mother, your son really can’t resign to this. Clearly, she promised to marry me, yet she wed three men... Just let me go. I only need five years. No matter the outcome, I will return after five years. During these five years, treat it like I am traveling around, alright?”

Pausing for a moment, Su Yi Jing continued: ”It’s said that I’m marrying into her family, but I am not exactly becoming her little subordinate. It’s Xiao Yijing who is marrying into her family, not me, Su Yi Jing. I am still the dignified Prince of Xiyun, your son, your proud son.”

An Jing shook her head while crying, still refusing to agree.

Worried that An Jing would cry herself sick, Xiao Changyi, who hadn’t spoken, finally opened his mouth: ”Jing Er, go back to your room and rest a bit. I’ll handle things here.”

An Jing urgently grabbed Xiao Changyi’s hand: ”Husband, you absolutely cannot agree to Jing Er. We must not let our son endure such grievances. You and I can endure anything, but we cannot let our son suffer!”

”Rest assured, I will not agree.”

Hearing Xiao Changyi’s promise, An Jing finally felt assured and returned to her room. Because she was too emotional and too concerned for this son, An Jing had a terrible headache from crying, so it was better for her to go back to her room.

As soon as An Jing returned to her room, Su Yi Jing said: ”Father—”

Before Su Yi Jing could finish speaking, Xiao Changyi raised his hand to stop him, preventing him from speaking.

Xiao Changyi didn’t immediately say anything to Su Yi Jing either. He sat in silence for a long while before asking in a low voice: ”She is the Empress of Wufeng, are you truly certain of spending a lifetime with her, just you two?”

”No.” Su Yi Jing answered very honestly. ”But if I don’t try, this will be the extent of it between her and me. Father, I beg you to give me five years, okay?”

”It’s not that your mother and I don’t want to give you time, but it will be too aggrieving for you. Your mother and I would rather endure grievances ourselves than see you suffer grievances, do you understand?”

”I understand.”

”Since you understand, why are you doing this? Are you intentionally trying to make your mother and me uncomfortable?” Xiao Changyi’s words were sharp, piercing straight into Su Yi Jing’s heart.

Su Yi Jing choked up: ”It is my lack of filial piety. But if I don’t give it a try this time, I won’t be able to move on for the rest of my life.”

Xiao Changyi had loved deeply; An Jing was someone he loved to the core, and he still deeply loved An Jing now, so, at this moment, he understood Su Yi Jing’s affection for Feng Feiyan.

But—

”Jing Er, she is the Empress of Wufeng. If you marry into her family as a farmer’s son to become Your Majesty, even if she dismisses her Empress and the two princes, and you two can spend your lives together, it can only be under Xiao Yijing’s identity as a farmer’s son. The Prince of Xiyun cannot spend a lifetime with the Empress of another country, do you understand?”
