Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1237 - 643: The Decaying Dynasty Begins (Part 2)

”Is it really that bright? How does it compare to the sun?” Xu Ying pointed upwards.

”I’d rather look directly at the sun than stare at that crystal,” the monster concluded.

It’s actually more dazzling than the sun?

”It sounds a bit scary... Does it have a high temperature?” Xu Ying asked.

”No, just brightness, it doesn’t affect the surrounding temperature,” the monster said.

Oh...

This is quite different from crystals on Earth.

The light emitted from the crystal, including the treehouse core, carries a certain amount of heat. During the previous winter, as long as the treehouse core was brought out, the surrounding temperature would rise.

”If you can’t look directly at it, it would be difficult to extract the Source of Life you need from the crystal,” Xu Ying said.

”Not that big of a problem,” Xu Xin looked out the window.

Although it was daylight in the World Tree, the sun was not visible.

”If we want to look at the sun, we just need to wear sunglasses,” said Xu Xin.

”Sunglasses? Ah...”

”In the past, when watching a solar eclipse, people would wear sunglasses, right?” Shi Wanyun made a gesture of shielding her eyes with her hand.

”...But they have eyes all over their bodies,” Xu Ying pointed to the monster beside her, ”Do they have to wear sunglasses all over?”

”Sunglasses, you mean this?”

The monster gently waved its hand, and a pair of sunglasses appeared in its hand.

It put them on its face.

Without ears, the sunglasses clamped directly onto its head, and the arms of the glasses even pressed against two of its eyes.

But I must say, after it blocked its only two open eyes with the sunglasses, it looked much more agreeable.

The monster, now wearing sunglasses, began to explain.

”Every so often, they send people to chip off small pieces from the crystal, and divide it into fingernail-sized crystals. Individuals with insufficient Source of Life in their hands can claim them.”

”Although it seems troublesome, this crystal is an extremely important resource, so it has always been under the full control of my father.”

”Through this method, my father came to completely control all individuals on this planet. It’s the biggest chip in his hand. Hmm... in this timeline, he is no longer my father.”

The father the monster referred to is the current leader of the alien invaders.

”Sounds like your father is using force to make the other alien invaders submit,” Xu Ying said with a smirk.

That crimson crystal is the Source of Life for all the alien invaders. If this thing is controlled by the leader, it’s like all water resources being controlled by one leader for humans. To drink water, you must go to claim it!

That’s an incredible amount of power!

Who would dare disobey?

”Exactly. After all, it’s a mining planet, with an environment extremely harsh to them. Long-term survival in such an environment breeds a lot of dissatisfaction, and many individuals among them have long wanted to return to their home planet or perhaps continue wandering the galaxy. Without oppressive measures, they couldn’t be held down.”

”So, they aren’t as united as it seems.”

”Many individuals have clearly expressed their dissatisfaction with my ’father’.”

The monster’s explanation made Xu Xin smile.

As expected, intelligent creatures are the same everywhere.

Just like humans, cast from the same mold.

The more intelligent the creature, the stronger the individual consciousness, and the more likely different voices will emerge within the group.

Beehives operate efficiently because those bees lack individual consciousness.

Even though when the queen bee can no longer lay eggs, the worker bees will collectively attack and kill the queen, supporting a new one, all for the sake of better group reproduction, without any personal grudges.

Humans are different.

Humans with strong individual consciousness won’t always obey the same leader.

Especially in harsh survival environments.

The countless changes of dynasties illustrate this truth.

Alien invaders, being intelligent creatures like humans, are no different.

The monster said, ”From my observations, their internal unity is no longer what it was when they first arrived here; internal conflicts have emerged, which we can exploit.”

Is that so.

It has already been over a thousand years since the alien invaders colonized Earth.

If we consider this as a dynasty established by alien invaders on Earth, it has lasted for a millennium.

A thousand years is indeed enough for a dynasty to become riddled with holes.

After all, no dynasty in Huaxia’s ancient history lasted over a thousand years.

Not a single one.

The longest-lasting dynasty was the Zhou Dynasty, with nearly eight hundred years of history, but it was divided into the Eastern Zhou and Western Zhou.

By the Eastern Zhou, it had become a symbolic dynasty, even subdivided into Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods. During that time, no feudal lord would heed the Emperor of Zhou.

Human history demonstrates that no regime can remain steadfastly stable over time.

Alien invaders, despite their long lifespans and few changes, have also taken a thousand years to transform a once stable governance into a fragile and decayed one!
