Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1222 - 638: The Life of the Hybrid Monster_2

In the eyes of alien colonizers, its appearance as an adult can be described as... extremely deformed.

At the same time, scientists have discovered its anomalies.

Its brain was conceived through hybridization. Though not so apparent during its childhood, functional impairments began to surface in adulthood.

After all, using a human brain to control a body more akin to a monster makes it unable to do things that most monsters can easily accomplish.

Moreover, because the nerves controlling the body are concentrated in one place, any damage to the head means direct death. Most significantly, this brain, like that of humans, is extremely delicate and fragile, intolerant of injuries.

Earth humans evolved an incomparably hardened skull to protect the brain over eons, but alien invaders have no such feature.

Although they possess similar structures, they are much softer and more flexible compared to human bones, primarily relying on muscle-like tissues for movement.

The reason they did not develop such protective structures is because their nerves are spread throughout the body, with no need to protect any single area individually.

Even if a part or even a large portion of their body is destroyed, their nerves still partially remain. Coupled with their powerful self-healing abilities and medical technology, as long as some tissue exists, they can regenerate.

Under certain conditions, they can even split!

One half becomes one individual, and the other half becomes another individual.

...

”Is it worms this time...” Xu Ying couldn’t help but quip.

”Seems like the creatures on Earth are quite magical too.” Xu Xin laughed.

”What are worms?” the monster asked.

”Oh, a type of bug here, maybe your scientists have even studied them.” Xu Xin said offhandedly and then curiously asked, ”Since you can split, would you use that method to increase your population?”

”... Trying to increase our numbers this way isn’t realistic.”

The monster’s language had become increasingly fluent, now almost free of stuttering.

No wonder the intelligent species capable of space travel merged with Earth’s intelligent species, humans.

It grinned: ”Losing a small part of the body can be healed or treated quickly, but losing half also means death. Though technology can help keep it alive, the medical process is lengthy and resource-demanding, often exceeding the lifetime energy consumption of an individual.”

”Oh, serious injury, critical condition, in intensive care.” Xu Ying grasped.

”So using this method to split is not only agonizing but also consumes enormous resources, with the risk of death during failure. Except for madmen, no one would do this.”

”So, did some madman do it?” Xu Xin pursued the question.

”Yes, there were. It was done before. Legislation later banned it.”

”Indeed, it should be banned.”

At this point, Shi Wanyun, who had been silent all along, asked, ”So, have you lost this ability?”

”Yes.”

...

It cannot protect its own brain, nor does it retain the nearly perfect self-healing abilities of alien beings.

Its brain is also very chaotic.

Its body is very ”ugly”.

It is a very failed experiment.

The alien scientists initially did not want to give up on it, as it was the result of their long-term effort.

But later its existence was exposed to the home planet, and alien beings collectively opposed this evil act of polluting their genes with ”Earth monster” genes.

Eventually, the plan was canceled.

It became the only entity born from this plan.

After that, it became increasingly unwelcome among the alien colonizers.

Fortunately, those scientists, with half of its blood still in them, had some conscience and remorse. At least they ensured it did not suffer any harm, and even invented various protective gear and provided high-tech weapons for self-defense.

At least it can live a safe life.

But by that time, its brain was already uncontrollably chaotic.

Furthermore, never having connected with the outside world, it began to harbor a strong curiosity about the humans in its genes.

...

”So you came to us?” Xu Ying realized, ”I see.”

”Yes. If I were to connect with humans, I should naturally start with my never-met mother.”

By now the monster’s speech was extremely fluent and clear, sounding almost like a normal person, though its voice was rather unpleasant. It even had a refined tone, probably due to the linguistic materials it used.

”Thus, I searched through various materials, learned the whereabouts of my Earth human mother, and ventured there alone.”

...

Back then, among the alien colonizers, no one wanted to pay attention to it, so when it left alone, no one stopped it.

Even those scientists ignored this blemish of their scientific career.

After that, the monster’s story with the human team began.

The first time it saw humans, it was so nauseated it vomited.

It simply couldn’t imagine that such terrifying, creepy-looking creatures could exist in this world.
