Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1145 - 612: Monster in the Deep Sea (Part 3)

The penetration of sunlight, for the ocean, can be described as merely illuminating the surface.

In the ocean, below a depth of 200 meters, the human eye can no longer capture sunlight at all.

At depths between 200 meters to 1000 meters, there are still some light-sensitive organisms that can use their eyes to catch the sunlight, but at this depth, no organism can perform photosynthesis anymore.

As for below 1000 meters, it is complete darkness; all known Earth creatures can no longer perceive sunlight.

And the average depth of the ocean is 3347 meters, with the deepest point at the Mariana Trench reaching up to 11034 meters.

That is a darkness where sunlight cannot penetrate at all.

”The red glow needs to be bright enough to affect the mutation of living things. Initially, it only affected the creatures within about 200 meters deep of the ocean, beyond that, it could not. It basically had no effect on the deep sea. But...”

Xu Ying’s lips curled slightly into a somewhat proud smile: ”Our giant beast lineage can be affected. Back then, the giant’s lineage flowed along mountains and rivers into the ocean, and we naturally added some ingredients to it, making the lineage even richer.”

”Currently, it seems that the deep-sea creatures have definitely been affected. Now, the ocean floor has become a habitat for enormous sea monsters in pitch black darkness!”

Xu Xin imagined the scene for a moment, and suddenly felt a bit unnerved.

Giant sea monsters.

After all, even a thousand years ago on Earth, the deep sea was an incredibly mysterious domain.

Humans’ understanding of the deep sea was even less than that of outer space.

After all, at least outer space could be directly observed, but the deep sea...

It was an incredibly mysterious domain, where each creature appeared extraordinarily bizarre, oddly shaped, resembling life forms from a different planet when compared to land creatures.

Scientists used to believe that in such harsh conditions of the deep sea, life forms were scarce, lacking light and food, hence the creatures there shouldn’t be too large.

But the truth was quite the opposite.

The deep sea was filled with various giant monsters.

Like the colossal squid, which is several times larger than a regular squid, and the ghostly river jellyfish, whose body length can exceed ten meters, are all monsters from the deep sea.

Also, large-sized sea slugs, sponges, worms, sea spiders, and even relatively enormous single-celled organisms compared to those on land can be found in the deep sea.

This phenomenon was termed deep sea gigantism by scientists from a thousand years ago.

So, the deep sea was originally a domain of monsters.

And now, these monsters are becoming even larger under the influence of the giant beast lineage!

Moreover, the giant beast lineage can also enhance the intelligence of life forms...

Thus it appears that the current deep sea likely harbors a group of highly intelligent, terrifying deep-sea giants!

This is truly a chilling thought...

”Wait... shouldn’t the current ocean depth also...” Xu Xin suddenly remembered something and inhaled sharply.

”Yes, the current ocean depth is ten times what it was before.” Xu Ying said with a slight shiver, ”It’s terrifying even to think about... In short, the underground world below the seabed is a place difficult for them to reach, so...”

”You established the underground human base... beneath the ocean.” Xu Xin continued the sentence.

”... As expected of you, brother.” Xu Ying pursed her lips, ”This idea was originally proposed by you, brother.”

... So the underground human base is located beneath the deep sea!

Thinking about the terrifying ocean world overhead, Xu Xin’s scalp began to tingle again.

It’s true that ignorance is bliss, once you know, it’s likely to cause panic.

”Alright, alright, weren’t we here to pick someone up? How did we end up discussing the underground world?” Xu Ying timely interrupted this part of the conversation, and looked towards the treehouse which was only tens of meters away, ”We’re very close now, and there’s indeed no one inside. We need to go in and check... hmm?!”

Xu Ying suddenly uttered a sound of surprise, then grabbed Xu Xin’s arm, stopping their steps.

”What’s the matter?” Xu Xin immediately tightened up and whispered.

”... Transmission device.”

Xu Xin looked towards the side of the treehouse. Sure enough, at the edge of the ground, there was a metal pillar protruding slightly from the surface, its exposed part was so short it looked more like a metal disc.

”Wasn’t it mentioned before that it was Shi Wanyun who brought it back...”

”Shh!” Xu Ying put her index finger to her lips, interrupting Xu Xin, speaking softly, ”Transmission device, someone is arriving!”

Xu Xin was taken aback.

Could it be Shi Wanyun and her team?

... What a coincidence?
