As the voice fell, a middle-aged man dressed in the uniform of a chief constable came forward from the crowd.

Su Zhenglong’s gaze instantly solidified, as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over his head, his momentum disappearing without a trace in an instant.

Opposite him, Su Yun couldn’t help but let out a charming laugh, “Giggle, uncle, are you trying to fight to the death?”

“Unfortunately, we won’t give you a chance.

This is Chief Han from the Yunye City Patrol Hall, Lord Han.

He has already learned from the City Guard that Sikong Jing forced his way out of the city.”

As soon as these words were spoken, Su Zhenglong and Su Yuexi’s complexions turned even paler, signaling big trouble ahead.

“That’s right, Sikong Jing, having committed a crime, forced his way out of the city and should be executed!”

Chief Han’s tone carried a sinister smile, “As one of the Four Great Families, the Su Family can carry out the execution themselves.”

It was over, completely over!

Su Yuexi felt like she was about to collapse; there was no chance for her father to even fight back, and even Chief Han had arrived.

And Su Zhenglong, clenching his teeth, closed his eyes; all he could do now was to ensure that his daughter wouldn’t be punished.

For Sikong Jing, it was certain death.

“Report…”

The next moment, a house servant of the Su family appeared before Su Xuefeng, reporting, “Family Head, City Guard General Chou Ye requests an audience.”

At this news, the eyes of Su Xuefeng and others like Su Zhengtao lit up.

“Haha, Su Zhenglong, even Lord Chou, the City Guard General, has come.

Now, let’s see how you will resist,” Su Zhengtao said with a wild smirk, certain that Chou Ye had come to condemn Sikong Jing.

Su Xuefeng also had a beaming smile, loudly saying, “Please, do invite him in quickly.”

In the courtyard, Su Zhenglong wore a bitter smile, knowing there was no chance for him now that even Chou Ye had arrived.

At the same time, Su Yuexi gripped Sikong Jing’s hand tightly, biting her lip, “I’ll die with you.”

Sikong Jing felt a wave of warmth flood his body.

He smiled at Su Yuexi, “Don’t worry, nothing will happen.

I will turn the tide soon.”

Before Su Yuexi could respond, the voice of Mei Xiaofang rang out in grief, “What situation do you still want to turn around?

Who told you to steal the money?

I think you are exactly as Su Yun described; you were planning to escape the city all along.”

Now that both Chief Han and General Chou Ye had arrived, it proved that Sikong Jing had truly forced his way out of the city, and moreover, he was captured and brought back.

Saying he went to retrieve the Jade hairpin, when it was clearly stolen from Hengyu Pawnshop.

“Yue Xi, stay away from him.”

“This man is a criminal; if he can steal money and hairpins, he must have been a notorious bandit before being exiled.”

Mei Xiaofang tugged at Su Yuexi forcefully; a recidivist criminal couldn’t be trusted to take care of her daughter.

Open-mouthed, Su Yuexi said, “Mother, the theft of the money isn’t as the Hengyu Shopkeeper described it.”

She hadn’t expected that even her own mother would doubt Sikong Jing, but she had seen it all with her own eyes.

Mei Xiaofang stared at her daughter, said with a bitter smile, “You’re too naive, way too naive.”

“Never mind, once General Chou arrives, you’ll naturally see his true colors.”

Saying this, Mei Xiaofang stopped pulling at Su Yuexi and returned to Su Zhenglong’s side in agony.

For his part, Sikong Jing likewise offered no defense, just sighed inwardly; his identity as a criminal indeed made it easy for people to assume the worst.

Perhaps, this was exactly what Yan Yuru wanted to see.

She wanted to watch him endure scorn and sufferings, even in ordinary life.

But he was not so easily defeated.

“Haha, General Chou Ye’s grand arrival at the Su Family is an honor.

Forgive us for not greeting you from afar.”

Su Xuefeng’s voice came through, followed by the appearance of Chou Ye clad in military attire.

At that moment, a smile was also present on Chou Ye’s face, but as he was about to speak, he unexpectedly saw Chief Han and said in surprise, “Lord Han, what are you doing at the Su Family?”

Chief Han quickly stepped forward, laughing, “General Chou, I’m here to capture the fugitive Sikong Jing, of course.”

Upon hearing this, Chou Ye’s expression darkened abruptly.

However, Chief Han hadn’t noticed anything amiss and continued to laugh heartily, “Sorry, General Chou, you didn’t catch Sikong Jing because he’s returned to the Su Family, and I’ve beaten you to it.”

Chief Han boasted proudly at that point.

The incident of Sikong Jing’s bold dash out of the city was already known to many in their circle.

General Chou Ye personally led the pursuit but failed to capture him.

Regardless of why Sikong Jing had returned, this credit was now Chief Han’s.

“You said you came to capture Sikong Jing?” Chou Ye asked angrily.

Chief Han shrugged and smiled, “Is there a problem?

General Chou, there’s no need for envy.

I’m not going to let you take the credit.”

Bang!

Suddenly, Chou Ye harshly kicked Chief Han in the abdomen, sending him flying with a loud cry.

Meanwhile, Su Xuefeng, who had been all smiles, was dumbfounded.

Why had they started fighting?

Su Zhenglong’s family was shocked as well.

Then Mei Xiaofang covered her forehead, lamenting that everyone seemed eager to kill her criminal son-in-law.

Was capturing Sikong Jing really such a significant achievement?

“Chou Ye, what the hell are you doing?” Chief Han roared furiously from the ground.

Chou Ye stepped forward aggressively, pulling him up harshly, “Who the hell told you that you could capture Sikong Jing?”

Hmm?

Just as Su Xuefeng, who wanted to break up the fight, heard this, he froze.

Something seemed off with that statement?

“He broke out of the city, and his criminal record is under the management of my Patrol Hall.

Why can’t I capture him?” Chief Han argued defiantly, though he was no match for Chou Ye.

“The City Guard couldn’t catch him, so I can’t pursue him?” Chief Han retorted forcefully.

Smack!

Chou Ye slapped him across the face and coldly demanded, “Who told you Sikong Jing broke out of the city forcefully?”

“What?

If he didn’t break out of the city, what did he do?” Chief Han was utterly bewildered.

Chou Ye sneered coldly and then harshly threw Chief Han to the ground, speaking indifferently, “Of course, Sikong Jing didn’t just break out of the city.

He was cooperating with my action to exterminate the Fierce Beast Bandits.”

What?

Everyone present was stunned.

What was going on?

Chou Ye paid no mind to the surrounding astonishment and looked at Sikong Jing, speaking, “Although Sikong Jing is a criminal, he has contributed to the extermination of the Fierce Beast Bandits.

As a reward, he is granted twenty Gold Crystal Coins.”

Having finished speaking, he motioned to his subordinate, who quickly handed the Gold Crystal Coins to Sikong Jing.

While everyone watched in a daze, Sikong Jing took the money and spoke calmly, “Thank you, General Chou.”

The entire place continued to be dumbstruck.

It took a while before Chief Han regained his senses and shouted loudly, “Chou Ye, what are you playing at?

He clearly forcibly broke out of the city.

I received the report.”

Su Xuefeng also snapped out of it, stepping forward and saying, “General Chou, could there be some mistake?”

What a mess.

How could Sikong Jing, a criminal, possibly have made an achievement?
