The man in the portrait gave him a whole Gold Crystal Coin, so the waiter certainly wouldn’t forget.

He added, “However…”

Upon hearing this, the middle-aged commander widened his eyes and asked, “However what?”

“However, the Fierce Beast bandits just broke in and there’s still a fierce fight in the backyard; I’m not sure what happened exactly.

It’s quieted down now, but we still haven’t dared to go in and check,” the waiter rapidly replied.

“Fierce Beast Bandits?”

A chill flashed in the eyes of the middle-aged commander, who immediately led his men to the room where Luo Ning was located.

When they stopped, they were instantly stunned by the sight of blood and bodies everywhere.

Moreover, the middle-aged commander immediately determined that all the bodies were members of the Fierce Beast Bandits.

After the shock, the middle-aged commander’s gaze slowly fell upon the only two survivors, Luo Ning and her house servant.

“What happened?

Who slaughtered the Fierce Beast Bandits?

And where is the man in the portrait?”

Three questions in a row, as the situation before him was completely unexpected for the middle-aged commander.

Luo Ning looked up, surprisingly staring at the portrait in the hands of the middle-aged commander—it was the terrifying man who had just left.

The next moment, Luo Ning smiled and let out a light laugh, saying, “Isn’t this General Chou Ye?

I am Luo Ning from the Lushui Trading Company in Yunzhou City.

Have you forgotten, General?”

She didn’t answer any questions, choosing instead to establish a connection first.

The middle-aged commander before her was familiar; he was none other than General Chou Ye, the commander of Yunye City.

She had dealt with him when doing business in Yunye City.

General Chou was momentarily stunned, then he suddenly realized and asked with a somewhat softened expression, “So it’s Lady Luo; what is actually happening here?”

After a brief contemplation, Luo Ning explained with a smile, “I was negotiating here with Miss Lei Shuang from the Thunder Wing Trading House, when suddenly the Fierce Beast Bandits broke in and even tried to kidnap me and Miss Lei Shuang…”

“In the midst of the crisis, the man in the portrait saved me.”

Luo Ning said this, gazing intently at Chou Ye, feeling somewhat nervous since some of her words were fabricated.

“Why?”

General Chou displayed a completely baffled expression, which didn’t align with what he had envisioned.

He had assumed that the criminal had colluded with the Fierce Beast Bandits to rob Luo Ning.

Since the Fierce Beast Bandits operated brazenly in this region, frequently robbing large-scale traders, General Chou had no doubts about Luo Ning’s words.

What puzzled him was why the criminal would save Luo Ning.

“Here’s what happened, the man in the portrait came to buy back a Jade hairpin from me, just when the Fierce Beast Bandits appeared, so he took action,” Luo Ning clarified further after organizing her thoughts.

Apart from Lei Shuang’s involvement, everything else she told was the truth.

After finishing her explanation, Luo Ning asked, “General, who is this man?

He seems very formidable.”

Her eyes filled with anticipation, she was truly eager to know the real identity of Sikong Jing.

Why was he so fearsome?

Since Luo Ning’s identity was credible, General Chou generally believed her explanation, replying, “His name is Sikong Jing; he’s a convict exiled to Yunye City and has also been personally betrothed by the Lord of Yunzhou to the second daughter of the Su Family…”

As General Chou explained, Luo Ning couldn’t help but widen her eyes.

So his name was Sikong Jing, the man recently rumored to have been married off to the ugliest woman in all of Yunzhou, and he actually risked leaving the city just to retrieve a Jade hairpin for that ugly wife.

This was beyond her belief; shouldn’t he despise his ugly wife?

“Exactly who he was before being exiled, probably only the Lord of Yunzhou would know, but we also take it very seriously.”

“Lady Luo, do you know where he has gone now?”

General Chou countered with a question, as an exiled convict escaping the city was no small matter for him.

Suddenly, Luo Ning smiled again and replied, “General Chou need not worry, he must have returned to Yunye City.

He left the city just to buy back the Jade hairpin that belonged to his wife from me.”

As she said this, Luo Ning suddenly had an idea.

She picked up the one hundred Gold Crystal Coins Sikong Jing had thrown on the ground and handed them to Chou Ye.

“General Chou, the Fierce Beast bandits are all dead, this is your achievement…”

Luo Ning squinted her eyes and asked, “But could it be said that Sikong Jing also took part in it, and that he deserves some of the credit?”

The Fierce Beast bandits should have been killed by Sikong Jing, but given the current situation, Chou Ye would certainly claim all the credit for himself, and even if Sikong Jing returned to the city, he would still face the punishment for forcefully leaving the city.

Therefore, Luo Ning suddenly thought of this strategy just to thank Sikong Jing for saving her life.

Chou Ye’s mind flickered slightly, and he slowly accepted the Gold Crystal Coins, saying, “We’ll have to see if this criminal has returned or not.”

Upon finishing, Chou Ye quickly put the money into his pouch and ordered, “Leave half of the people to deal with the bodies; the rest follow me back.”

“By the way, General Chou, Lady Lei was also killed by the Fierce Beast bandits.

If there’s any trouble, please vouch for me.”

Luo Ning’s voice again rang in Chou Ye’s ear.

Gazing at her, Chou Ye nodded slightly and then disappeared from Luo Ning’s view.

Luo Ning secretly sighed, “A criminal exile, the son-in-law of the Su Family of Yunye City, the husband of the ugliest woman in all of Yunzhou, this man is really mysterious…

and he indirectly helped me too.”

Her gaze fell on Lei Shuang’s body.

It was because General Chou came chasing that she was able to pin the death of Lei Shuang on the Fierce Beast bandits.

“But, I also helped him; I wonder if he will thank me?” Luo Ning squinted slightly, somewhat expectantly.

…

In the darkness of the night on the official road, Sikong Jing was caught up by Chou Ye returning by the same route.

He didn’t resist at all; forcibly leaving the city was bound to cause trouble, something that Sikong Jing had expected.

However, he had also thought of a way to deal with it.

But when Sikong Jing heard Chou Ye’s words, he was completely stunned.

“General Chou’s intention is to credit the extermination of the Fierce Beast bandits to you?”

Sikong Jing then realized that the Big Beard, hired by Lei Shuang and nicknamed Fierce Beast, was part of a bandits group that roamed near Yunye City.

“Yes, the credit goes to me; I will also share some of it with you, promising that breaking out of the city was my idea.”

“To lure the Fierce Beast bandits into a trap.”

Chou Ye’s eyes carried a hint of threat, implying that if this criminal dared not agree, he should not blame himself for being unkind.

Eradicating the Fierce Beast bandits was no small feat, and he could not afford to miss it.

Shrugging his shoulders, Sikong Jing naturally agreed without hesitation and nodded, “No problem.”

Just like that, he made a deal with Chou Ye.

Later, Chou Ye personally sent men to escort him back to Yunye City, and along the way, Sikong Jing couldn’t help but think of Luo Ning, murmuring, “It seems this was her idea.”

Sikong Jing was not surprised by this, as Luo Ning needed an excuse to deal with Lei Shuang’s death.

But this idea indeed spared him a lot of trouble…

When Sikong Jing returned to Yunye City, it was already daylight.

Under the watchful eyes of the City Guards, he quickly returned to the Su Residence, as it was time to pay back the house servants.
