Berserk God of War

26: Chapter 026: Miss Luo of Yunzhou City 26: Chapter 026: Miss Luo of Yunzhou City The Jade hairpin was pawned for merely three Gold Crystal Coins, but the redemption price was a hefty twenty.

This was clearly a trap that Hengyu Pawnshop set for Su Yuexi, but at the time, Su Yuexi had no choice but to agree out of desperation for money.

Gurgle…

The Shopkeeper swallowed his fear and gritted his teeth, “Criminal, my Hengyu Pawnshop is protected by the Chu Family, you…”

“Since you know I’m a criminal, do you want to know why I was exiled?”

“Because I’ve killed many people.”

Sikong Jing’s tone was chilling to the extreme, as a murderous intent heavily infiltrated the Shopkeeper’s mind.

With a buzz, the Shopkeeper dared not issue any more threats and said with a trembling voice, “I’ve already sold the item, where am I supposed to find it now?”

“That’s not my problem, do you prefer to hand over the item or your life?” Sikong Jing’s gaze was extremely cold.

The Shopkeeper was terrified, genuinely afraid that Sikong Jing would chop him down with a single strike.

In the end, he could only send people to chase after it, but the final message they received was that the person who had bought the Jade hairpin had already left the city.

“Son-in-law of the Su Residence, the buyer was a young, wealthy woman, who by her accent seemed to be from Yunzhou City,” the Shopkeeper reported.

“This is all I can do now, please spare me!”

After hearing the Shopkeeper’s words, Sikong Jing clenched his fists tightly.

The buyer had already left the city, making the situation troublesome.

Moreover, according to the Shopkeeper’s description, she also had a carriage, not something just anyone could catch up with.

Sikong Jing’s gaze flickered before he asked, “How much did she pay for it?”

“One hundred Gold Crystal Coins,” the Shopkeeper replied shakily.

Instantly, Sikong Jing almost cursed aloud; three Gold Crystal Coins pawned, sold for one hundred, it was a blatant rip-off.

But there was no time to deal with the Shopkeeper’s greed now, Sikong Jing stretched out his hand and said, “One hundred Gold Crystal Coins, hand them over.”

With a twist of his mouth corner, the Shopkeeper ultimately had no choice but to hand over the money to Sikong Jing.

Then with a “bang,” Sikong Jing slammed the Shopkeeper’s head onto the counter before leaving the Hengyu Pawnshop with Su Yuexi.

Looking at the frosty face of Sikong Jing, Su Yuexi bit her lip and said, “I’ve let sister down; the Jade hairpin is really gone.”

The thought that she would never see the Jade hairpin again made Su Yuexi unable to hold back her sorrow.

Suddenly, Sikong Jing embraced Su Yuexi tightly and murmured softly, “It won’t be gone; I’ll chase it down now.”

Su Yuexi looked up, shocked, “Sikong Jing, but the buyer has already left the city!”

Shaking his head firmly, Sikong Jing replied, “No matter what, I will get it back.”

After the promise, Sikong Jing called for another carriage, had Su Yuexi take it home first, while he dashed toward the eastern gate of Yunye City, exactly in the direction of Yunzhou City.

Watching Sikong Jing’s retreating figure, Su Yuexi bowed her head and said, “Why am I always so useless?”

She blamed herself, but the next moment, she gasped, “Oh no, Sikong Jing is a criminal, he can’t leave the city.”

Yet, she shook her head gently and somehow felt relieved.

Yunzhou sits on the fringe of the Great Shang Dynasty, surrounded by barren wilderness and infested with demon beasts, an exceedingly dangerous place.

There wasn’t much danger during the day, but the sun was already setting, and darkness would soon fall.

Unless in a large group, even those in the Bright Realm Ninth Layer dared not venture out of the city alone, so it was for the best that Sikong Jing was turned back.

The Jade hairpin was important, but more than that…

was her husband’s life.

At the eastern gate of Yunye City, the City Guards stopped Sikong Jing and carelessly said, “You want to leave the city?

Show your household registration.”

Sikong Jing slightly lifted his eyelids, and then his body flashed by, followed by a sequence of pained screams.

By the time he reappeared, he was already outside the city walls.

As a once Invincible God General, he was well aware that exiled criminals were not allowed to leave the city because he now bore a criminal record, but this meant nothing to him.

The laws of the Great Shang Dynasty became as worthless as dirt to him from the moment he was falsely accused and exiled.

Heading in the direction of Yunzhou City, Sikong Jing seized a warhorse that belonged to the city’s soldiers and gave chase.

“Someone has broken out of the city, go after him!”

As Sikong Jing took off with the horse, the City Guards roared in alarm, and chaos ensued at the city gates.

They quickly reported to their superiors and then sent a large force out of the city to pursue Sikong Jing!

The sky slowly darkened, and tonight there was no moon, just a faint scattering of starlight across the land.

In the wilderness, the low growls of demon beasts could be heard everywhere.

On the official road, there was the sound of horse hooves clip-clopping, as Sikong Jing whipped his horse forward, thinking to himself, “Traveling by night, whoever bought the Jade hairpin is either exceedingly confident or has urgent business.”

If it was the former, they would not be traveling too fast; if the latter, they would definitely be speeding on their way.

Pushing his horse to go faster, Sikong Jing chased after them for three two-hour periods.

At midnight, he saw a light in the middle of the official road, a lonely inn amidst the wilderness, and at its entrance, he spotted an exquisite horse carriage.

Just as described by the Hengyu Manager, this was indeed the carriage of the Jade hairpin’s purchaser.

Taking a breath of relief, he had finally caught up; the buyer had not traveled continuously through the night but was staying at the inn.

Sikong Jing immediately dismounted and entered the inn.

When he opened the door, the room suddenly went quiet, and a multitude of gazes met him head-on, belonging to adventurers on their journeys.

These looks were fleeting, though, and the noise soon picked up again as they resumed their lively conversations and drinking.

“Respected guest, what do you require?” asked the inn’s server, approaching him.

Although the inns of the Great Shang Dynasty were established by the government, they still accepted ordinary travelers.

Sikong Jing was direct: “I’m not here to stay, I’m looking for the owner of that exquisite carriage outside.

Please, inform them.”

Having said this, Sikong Jing casually threw a Gold Crystal Coin to the server.

The server’s eyes lit up at the sight of the Gold Crystal Coin, which was an unexpected windfall for him.

He nodded hurriedly and immediately went to inform the carriage’s owner for Sikong Jing.

Soon, inside one of the inn’s rooms.

A maid-dressed girl received the server’s message and, quickly closing the door behind her, flew into the room, nervously declaring, “Miss, there’s a man outside asking to see you.”

In front of the maid sat a striking woman in a white dress, holding an antique Jade hairpin in her hand.

Upon hearing this, she looked up with a slight frown and said, “Does Thunder Wing Trading House hold me, Luo Ning, in such contempt?”

“They actually want to kill me so openly?”

As she spoke, Luo Ning coldly commanded, “Let him in, then.”

“But Miss…”

The maid called out fearfully, but before she could finish, Luo Ning interrupted, “No need to worry.

I want Thunder Wing Trading House to know that I, Luo Ning, am not so easily killed.

Even if I perish, they will have to pay a heavy price.”

The maid, mouth agape, eventually went out.

When she returned to the room, she was accompanied by Sikong Jing.

Luo Ning raised her eyebrows and scrutinized Sikong Jing from head to toe, then laughed coldly and said, “Thunder Wing Trading House sends you to kill me, with a realm of merely the Bright Realm Sixth Layer?

Are you here to make a joke or to die?”
