Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 816: Chapter 612: The Undead Priest Who Learned the Resurrection Technique

The Temple Guards were inexplicably watching these strange elves charge headlong from the other side of the battlefield towards the endless Demon Army in front of Hell’s Gate, their hands frozen in midair, unsure of how to greet them.

Fortunately, members of the Righteous Knights knew what was happening with the Undead Tribe. The colleagues from the Silver Shield had shared many novel experiences after returning from Felunryel.

Although they were very grateful that the Undead Tribe saved their lives, they also recounted quite a bit of indescribable absurdity.

The most crucial point is that the Undead Tribe, because they cannot die, employs an almost crazy fighting style, something the Silver Shield Knights truly envy. While recuperating in Neverwinter, they often bring it up.

For these Holy Knights dedicated to justice, being able to battle demons without hesitation and without having to consider the losses is simply too perfect!

Although the Righteous Knights are never afraid of death, living long enough to take down a few more members of the Evil Faction is the ideal life.

The Righteous Knights are somewhat different from other clerics of Tyr. Most of the Holy Knights who can become members have sworn to fight demons to the end.

Otherwise, there wouldn’t be so many of them here at Hell’s Gate.

They lamentably educate other temple members about the common sense of the Undead Tribe, completely unaware that many people have entirely different points of focus.

Not everyone willing to fight demons to the end does so for justice and revenge; some are here to earn military exploits. Most of the good and even Neutral Factions in Ferun look favorably upon those who come here to fight demons.

Though it seems like a bounty situation, smart governors understand that relying solely on passion to make people risk their lives isn’t that easy.

The Righteous Knights are indeed very useful, but many also die! Tyr’s angels are the most numerous among all the deities in the Stellar Realm.

Thanks to them, Hell’s Gate cannot be defended without them. Even though many factions dislike Tyr’s Holy Knights, they absolutely do not dare let the Righteous Knights go extinct.

In any major crisis, only these Righteous Knights are willing to cover the retreat, sacrificing their lives to leave a glimmer of hope for the continent.

Therefore, most kingdoms have provided those within their realms who wish to obtain titles and official positions with this easiest path to advance.

As long as they can last here for two years, upon returning, their status will be significantly higher than those of similar professional level. With such a good deal, some people are always willing to take risks.

Especially those who deem themselves smart and capable, absolutely confident that they know how to protect themselves in chaos.

For these people, however many elves from the Otherworld arrive, they don’t care much. But the word ”undying” can capture their entire attention.

Not the kind of undead that turns into necromancy. For those whose strength has reached a certain level, yet cannot see their path forward and can only start competing for power and profit, this is a tremendous allure!

The Righteous Knights have already begun to prepare to mount their steeds. They saw the knights of the Undead Tribe summoning their Magic Horses.

Although they find it a bit puzzling why the Undead Tribe would rather summon these Magic Horses, which can only exist for eight hours, instead of using real horses, they follow behind them in the charge regardless.

Up in the sky, Hill flipping through his backpack knew why the Undead Tribe did this—real horses are expensive!

That damned William, he set it so that all animals only have one life! No matter how much you curse, he won’t change it.

What’s more, many knights ride into battle on their animal companions. If something happens by accident, wouldn’t it be heart-wrenching!

Although their system retrieves animal companions in time when critically injured, there are instances of instant death!

While such unlucky events rarely occur, they do happen. With the large number of Undead, there have been dozens of such cases.

Seeing those unlucky souls on the forums weeping bitterly over the loss of their companions, many from the Undead Tribe just want to hold their beloved animal friends tightly and shiver.

Nowadays, the Undead Tribe is well aware that in large-scale battles involving big bosses, it’s best not to summon their animal companions to fight. Even if they bring them along, they should stay far from the battle’s center, or else they might really suffer critical hits.

In events like deity battles, those unfortunate ones who brought animal companions right into the center of the battlefield, under the feet of those mega-damage-dealing bosses, were just asking for it.

Of course, the safest option is to use thick-skinned Magical Beasts like the Black Rose. Although they smell bad, they are safe! If it weren’t for the Abyssal aura also affecting wild boars, they would even dare to bring them into such area wars.

Hill finally unearthed his treasured painting from the depths of the pendant’s warehouse. Since the painting was promoted to a Divine Artifact, he had run very low on the legendary version.

Although the skill level released by a Demi-God Artifact probably wouldn’t reach level 30, Hill was still a bit concerned and planned to try with the legendary version first.

Just as Hill took out the painting, Oberon floated over lightly and began to inspect it closely.

He had, of course, already put away his Holy Relic Painting, or else the Little Fairies would not last a single day. They would be justly punished for confessing all their pranks on their companions.

Including the Little Flower Fairies and their leader.

Vila is a good kid and that doesn’t conflict with Vila telling little lies.

”This painting would really suit the Joyous Court.” After all, Oberon is a deity, and quickly realized the effects of the painting, ”This is clearly not the original version. Do you have a higher level one? I can trade with you. I have collected quite a few good things over these millennia.”

Hill hesitated for a few seconds, considered the consequences, and still steadfastly refused, although he was very curious as well.

”No need to worry about the safety of the painting! No little fairy will ever find out what went wrong.” Oberon insisted. ”I’ve dug many secret rooms in the Joyous Court; placing the painting inside will ensure that even Titania on the throne won’t discover it.”

Hill sighed and shook his head: ”The painting depicts three powerful deities of Teraxil. It is my honor that they are willing to bless me because of their love for the painting.

But I cannot use their power to do such things in other worlds; it can only be used to save people and myself.”

The three certainly didn’t care what Hill did with the painting, and causing trouble was no issue. But Hill was worried that such actions might attract the attention of the Tablets of Fate.

That damned slate of Toril, just thinking about it made alarms blare in Hill’s mental sea.

But such words were good enough to deal with Oberon, who was already accustomed to the powerful and majestic Toril deities.

Oberon nodded regretfully, took one last longing look at the painting, then resolutely turned around and sat back in his previous spot.

Hill decided that when in Toril, he should try not to use that holy relic painting. Even if forced to use it, he should keep it under his own control, ready to retract it into the pendant at any time.

Lansendel not getting the painting doesn’t mean the little fairies couldn’t. They have too many strange talents.

Hill glanced down; although the Undead Tribe was very brave, it was still just a vanguard force of less than one hundred thousand, and casualties were starting to appear.

The demons simply didn’t initially react to the sudden increase in the number of resistors. Once the frontmost group was wiped out by the Undead Tribe, the speed of demon emergence from Hell’s Gate noticeably increased, and instead of mere little demons as cannon fodder, even great demons began to leap out in groups.

Hill tilted his head and flicked his finger lightly, using a magic long rope to suspend the painting directly above the battlefield.

”Hill!” The Undead Tribe quickly realized where the beneficial magic on their bodies came from.

Once the beneficial spells on the painting were fully released, Hill activated the Scorching Radiance, leaving a positive energy zone for the Undead Tribe.

Amidst joyous cheers from the Undead Tribe, some priests who had stayed in the middle of the main force and had done nothing began to take action.

Hill finally understood why the Undead Tribe dared to travel such long distances without fearing death in battle. Their high priests had learned a resurrection technique, though it required a gold, droplet-shaped crystal stone, but it could indeed bring people back to life.

However, these priests seemed to need a very long chanting time, and the crystal stone in their hands had to be pressed on the forehead of the corpse to succeed.

Moreover, it seemed to sacrifice other abilities as they might be able to use this spell only once a day. After casting it, they could only be sent to the defensive walls of the Temple Guard Corps.

Probably, such troublesome resurrection priests apart from a few hundred that large families could afford, others would not choose this profession that can only contribute.

Still, priests capable of resurrection were greatly respected here in Toril, even if they could only resurrect their own, as they were the clergy closest to deities.

Each Undead Tribe priest sent to the defensive formation received a very warm welcome.

Hill pondered the origin of that crystal stone while continuously placing other paintings, fortunately using up all the legendary paintings before Oberon exclaimed ’demons are flying up!’

Purwell, following Hill’s command, quickly lashed his tail and dashed out above the Supreme Forest’s sky with the fastest speed.

However, to his disappointment, these demons seemed to have received strict orders and turned back when reaching the border area; only one, who charged too quickly, was directly pierced through by Hill’s long sword.

It seems the level of these demons didn’t even reach level 20.

No wonder Oberon remarked that this place had become a training ground for new recruits in the abyss.

It is even very likely that the Abyssal Demons and Toril deities have reached some understanding, where as long as they do not leave the forest’s boundary, neither side would send out forces beyond limits.

After all, the Supreme Forest is merely the home of the elves, and even if the whole forest could no longer be saved, as long as demons do not rampage across the entire continent, many deities would simply not care.

But such an understanding can only be acted upon, not spoken of.

Hill glanced in the direction of Agleya City, wondering if Coron was waiting for the warlike Undead Tribe to stop in the Supreme Forest on its own.
