Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 812: Chapter 608: Lynn’s Struggles with Gains and Losses

When Hill learned about Mulan, he was diligently setting up the Magic Tower. His half-plane still needed some time to cultivate, but Hill wanted to travel the world.

He suddenly remembered that if the fall of the Goddess of Magic was destined, many landscapes might change, so he decided to see the old scenery now. Then, in a few years, he could witness the world post-upheaval.

It would undoubtedly be interesting. He even prepared many Crystal Balls for recording images.

In fact, recording images in Toril was not impossible, but it was seldom used. Using a Magic Array to record images was truly too wasteful of Energy Baryte.

However, Teraxil had Space Crystals, so there was never any trouble on this front. Moreover, William was generous in this regard, having made many methods for using Space Crystals publicly accessible. Naturally, Hill learned them all and even improved a lot.

Although Lynn tried to explain the cause and effect simply, Hill was still shocked into silence. He glanced at his Alchemical Toolbox and the production line of his Alchemy Workshop and decided that today’s work could pause for now.

The overly humorous story left him unable to control his smile, making it difficult to handle such delicate tasks.

Hill truly saw such stupidity for the first time.

He had to admit that comparing this Prince Andreju to the Elven God King of Teraxil was an insult to the God King.

That guy was just not so bright; this prince’s intelligence might be negative.

As for Mulan being occupied by the Elves, Hill felt nothing.

Not to mention that the Elves needed to recuperate, the Kingdom of Anmur, which lost face this time, was not so easy to deal with either.

On the chaotic Ferun Great Land, being able to maintain land that could be called a country means that Anmur is definitely not to be underestimated.

The scheming and power struggles of Deepwater City, if magnified to the scale of a country, would be terrifying, anyone could imagine.

Mulan, though not large, was better located than Luskan, but the Luskan pirates, backed by the Arcane Brotherhood and the Santalin Meeting, never had designs on it. It couldn’t be just because Andreju was so stupid that no one dared to touch it, right?

Everyone knew that touching Mulan would give Anmur an excuse to annex this small Duchy. The King of Anmur was actually waiting for someone to remove Andreju to have a pretext for revenge!

Unfortunately, though he exhausted all schemes, instead of waiting for the thieves, he waited for the Elves with great responsibility, ending up with a piece of large junk not worth reclaiming.

As for Deepwater City, it might lose another advantage soon.

Elves are experts at creating Dimensional Gates. They didn’t make them before because Eternity Island originally didn’t welcome outsiders.

Moreover, countless Dimensional Portals were set up across Ferun, especially on former Elven territories, but were closed when the Elves left.

Everyone understands that once the Elves return to the continent, after some time to recuperate, they will surely reopen these gates.

And Mulan’s location is in the middle of the Ferun Great Land, making travel easy, north or south.

By that time, with connections across the multiverse, the portal city won’t be Deepwater City anymore; their troubles lie ahead.

Hill chuckled, noting that Kelben had named the reclaimed wasteland city the City of Hope because Deepwater City was prophesied to fall?

But now, it might turn into just an ordinary northern port city without waiting for its fall.

Not bad at all, proving that the prophecy Kelben received isn’t entirely wrong.

However, would this transformed Deepwater City still need Kelben’s son to risk everything to retake it?

Hill couldn’t help but hum ”Today is a Good Day” as he led Lynn up to the rooftop terrace of the Magic Tower.

Lynn, somewhat puzzled, looked at the terrace, set up like a small living room, surprised to find Hill had placed a couch and a beautifully designed bookshelf at the edge.

The space around the base of the Magic Tower wasn’t large. Though Hill seemed to expand it somewhat, it was adorned with just seven or eight small mushroom houses—a mere embellishment—what was there to see?

Lynn suddenly shivered as the semi-circular terrace beneath his feet moved!

Suspended in mid-air, it began to ascend towards the large skylight above them. Could this be an aerial platform?

The transparent crystal window above suddenly opened halfway, and the terrace shot upward, fitting snugly into the half-open circle.

Lynn smiled at the scenery outside, pondering when Hill had lifted Purwell into the sky. The Otherworldly Whale truly lived up to its reputation as the best aerial mount, flying silently.

”Feeling better?” Hill asked from a couch on the side.

”The aerial view is really nice!” Lynn stood at the edge, gently pressing his hand against the Crystal Wall in front, glancing down at Agleya City below. ”Only from here can you see how beautiful our city truly is!”

”Not inferior to Mulan at all. Of course, it never will be,” Hill said lazily. ”The time of the Elves has passed. It’s not easy for them to regain their past status.

Mulan, trying to break through the blockade formed by the northern Anmur and southern Tethyr, will be no small feat. Despite their own internal disputes, they’ll unite against the Elves without a doubt.

But this kind of method, no one would dare to use it on my Agleya.

The future of the Elven City Guards staying here with me won’t be worse than following them to Mulan.”

Hill pierced through the hidden worries in Lynn’s heart.

After discovering how easily the elves found their territory, Lynn felt a bit bewildered.

He worried that his action of preventing the City Guards from returning to the Elf Fleet would affect their future, as Agleya City hardly requires these elves to fight.

And for clerical jobs, many of the City Guard members are not capable.

So in Agleya City, they might really spend their entire lives as City Guards.

Hill thought Lynn, being overly worried, lost the calmness he should have, so he completely overlooked the problems Mulan faced after being occupied by elves.

If it’s really that good, why did General Gael send so many young people from the Royal Fleet to attend university in Agleya City?

”With your elven traits, how much military achievement can young people have?” Hill poured himself a glass of fruit wine. ”Help yourself if you want a drink. Now, even the puppets have jobs, so you have to do things yourself.

Lynn, I’m not very versed in schemes and intrigues, but I see through some fundamental things. Humans are very adept at internal strife but won’t give other races a chance.

Mulan, in the coming years, will be entwined in political and economic struggles.

In the short term, even if you want to taste some good food, you’ll likely have to come to our Agleya to purchase it.

If the elves don’t have a stable economic source, they’ll exhaust themselves trying to feed so many of their people.

What choice do you think they’ll make?”

”Are you talking about the Dimensional Gate?” Lynn realized, ”Even if they follow to Mulan, they’d still have to be City Guards. The navy won’t recruit new members for at least 1,200 years.”

Of course, Hill understood this point; otherwise, why would Lynn’s Gaul cousins mix with the Elf Crusade?

He saw over this period that although the Gaul brothers had a good relationship with the Elf Crusade, they weren’t as close as other elves; it was clear they only joined because they were too bored from not getting into the navy.

And with their demonstrated abilities and character, it’s only because the Royal Fleet was overcrowded that they couldn’t get in.

The elves’ long lifespan, at this time, became a problem.

Unlike the army, where anywhere can accommodate these young people, in the navy, it’s truly one person for each position, and bringing extra people is impossible.

You can’t expect seasoned warriors to make way for a bunch of inexperienced rookies, can you? The Elf World doesn’t operate in such parentally fond ways.

”At least being the City Guards here in Agleya, you can still see the Elven Pantheon. Why go to Mulan? To be watched by their dear parents while they stand guard every day?” Hill said calmly, ”If they really wanted that, they wouldn’t have left Eternity Island initially.”

Lynn was stunned for a moment, then nodded dejectedly and sank back into the sofa, watching the white clouds and setting sun in the sky.

”Actually, I know, elves have a hard life too,” Lynn whispered. ”It’s only when you go outside that you understand why those young elves develop extreme personalities.

Compared to humans living on the continent, elves isolated on an island already have a very shallow perspective.

Despite having such strong capabilities, they fight over the control of just one island!

It’s perfectly normal for Coron and the Elven Pantheon to abandon them.

I just hope the Moonflower Royalty can stand firm this time and not go back to that place.”

Hill realized that Lynn had calmed down from the excitement of the elves reestablishing a nation, so he stopped saying more.

If the elves were truly going to start a life of war, Hill would definitely discuss it clearly with those City Guards, letting them choose whether they want to join the fight.

After all, they were initially enthusiastic individuals wanting to accomplish great deeds.

However, humans wouldn’t actively declare war on elves; they would only use subtle tactics, and the elves’ own strength isn’t enough to challenge the entire continent.

The elves’ future is first to escape from the illusory net cast by humans, and even if the City Guards return, they’ll still have a hard life, so they might as well stay here, at least without needing to compete with other elves for resources to advance.

Lynn’s grandmother appears straightforward and rough-tempered but is truly strong-minded and wise inside, placing the Royal Fleet’s young people in the slightly easier Agleya City.

Not only living more comfortably but also learning a lot of new knowledge, Hill thinks that the General already understands what’s to be taught in Agleya University.

Like the courses the newly arrived gnomes and dwarves plan to open, Hill himself intends to attend and listen carefully; it’s a crystallization of wisdom over ten thousand years on a planet.
