Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 500: Chapter 299 Heading North Tough Trek

Hill listened carefully and discovered that it was an extremely ancient tune from Dionysio.

The Crystal Flower tinkled a few ballads, and Hill listened for a while to various styles of music, estimating that she had reached as far as Salabia.

Hill sighed; he couldn’t refuse Yunifrola’s kindness, but he also couldn’t judge her alignment attributes.

Hill could only sense that in front of him, she belonged to the kind alignment.

But this didn’t necessarily mean she was truly Yunifrola.

To say she was chaotic, she clearly obeyed the World Will, but a law-abiding kind faction wouldn’t dabble in puppet manipulation.

She was probably a type that leaned towards both sides, which was the most troublesome.

Hill absolutely didn’t dare owe her any favor; who knew what she might do in the future. Hill didn’t want to be dragged down by her.

But Hill could also feel Yunifrola’s goodwill towards him; she tried very hard to conceal her perennial coldness and presented her gentle and kind side in front of Hill.

Hill didn’t want to reject this goodwill, so he took a compromise.

He swiftly accepted all the gifts from the Crystal Flower, not taking the flowers was indeed because he couldn’t refine them; he didn’t have enough of the required materials.

But he had to give a substantial return, trying to owe as little favor as possible. Making musical instruments, of course, didn’t count; that was just a small gift, thoughtful but not expensive.

Hill continued to swim up to the cave’s top and knocked down a few more crystals.

Then he created an air ball to isolate the seawater outside.

He slowly refined these crystals, with dual earth and water attributes, along with a large number of his treasured items, into materials for depicting a magic array.

The Crystal Flower didn’t care about Hill’s actions, even when Hill started drawing a magic array in her cave.

This magical plant, which had lived for hundreds of thousands of years, knew what he was doing the moment Hill started.

”Once I’m done drawing, can you remember the specific drawing method of this array?” Hill asked as he painted, ”If it gets accidentally damaged, it’s best if you can fix it yourself.”

”No problem,” the Crystal Flower replied nonchalantly, ”I can remember everything that happens within a few hundred kilometers of me.”

Could remember, not just detect? This meant Yunifrola could see even further.

Perhaps she detected Hill when he was swimming around.

No wonder he didn’t feel her presence at first; it was only when he got close that he noticed Yunifrola.

Before Hill discovered her, the Crystal Flower should have already realized this human was a descendant of her own lineage.

Hill couldn’t help but shake his head with a smile: this was indeed the most terrifying place in the deep sea, and the clean trench outside, void of even plankton, proved it all.

However, Hill was the only one who wouldn’t encounter danger; in fact, this crisis directly became an opportunity.

The materials left by Yunifrola made Hill’s heart race even with just a glance.

Hill felt that even though he had rarely been unlucky, stepping into the elves’ trap this time didn’t turn out too badly.

This fall into the trap might entirely be because the blessing he gave the Elven God King was too powerful, causing a backlash.

Hill showed a small, delighted smile, humming the tune Yunifrola played; maybe there would be an interesting show later.

Hill illustrated a combined magic array for Yunifrola, providing not only ample defensive power but also purifying elemental power.

Though the mountain created by divine power provided protection, the elements here were still somewhat chaotic, and Yunifrola actually had to put in a lot of effort to stabilize them.

The reason her flowers would automatically disintegrate after a while was because she concentrated the absorbed other elements onto those small branches as much as possible.

For her, although this kind of sacrifice didn’t count for much, her life would be much better if she didn’t have to make such pointless sacrifices.

Nobody liked having to take three steps back after moving a hundred steps forward.

Yunifrola was extremely excited, waving her branches when the magic array Hill had worked on for several days finally took shape: ”What is this magic array? I’ve never seen it before.”

”This is derived from an alchemy array specialized in differentiating elemental power,” Hill explained slowly, ”I am a magician; during meditation, it’s best to stay in an element space that matches my own abilities.”

”I haven’t been out for a long time! There are many things I don’t know,” Yunifrola sighed, ”And I don’t like alchemy; it always feels uncomfortable to me. For instance, I am not afraid of fire now, but I still dislike it.”

Hill couldn’t help but laugh: ”I’ve packed the remaining magic array materials into small boxes for you. As long as you don’t open them, there won’t be any problems.”

The Crystal Flower cherished the boxes: ”Hill, you’re a good child. No wonder nature likes you so much. It’s a pity your primary lineage can’t possibly be Crystal Flower.”

Hill could feel she was genuinely regretful, but he was not.

No matter how powerful the Crystal Flower was, he’d rather not deal with it.

He would rather be a foolish bear running freely under the sun than sit motionless at the bottom of the sea for hundreds of thousands of years.

As Hill packed up his belongings, Yunifrola hesitated and asked, ”Are you leaving now?”

Hill nodded: ”I want to go north, to the clan.”

”To help those bears plant trees?” Yunifrola clearly knew what the Earth Bears were up to, ”Though I initially found them foolish, anything that can persist for hundreds of thousands of years becomes formidable and respectable.

Your lineage is indeed that of the Earth Bear!

But can your body handle it? The elements in that place are not just chaotic, they are violent! Even I couldn’t survive there!”

Hill smiled faintly: ”I think I can handle it better than a bear cub.”

The Crystal Flower had no intention of keeping Hill; she sighed faintly, ”Though I wish you could stay, this place is too lonely for a child. If I couldn’t follow the seeds out every few thousand years, I’d probably go mad too.”

”But why did you keep the trench so clean?” Hill was a bit puzzled; if it were him, he would make his place lively. Even a few fish could add some noise!

”I need it clean!” Yunifrola suddenly got agitated, ”No matter what creature! They all have to excrete! Seawater will bring it into the cave, and I absolutely can’t stand that!”

Hill could only remain silent. With a cleanliness obsession in the sea, it indeed left no room for any neighbors.

Where the Crystal Flower lived, no other plants could survive; this was an unsolvable problem.

Hill found a few pairs of Sound Transmission Conchs and handed one half to Yunifrola: ”Although I don’t know if the Sound Transmission Conchs will work here, it’s the only thing I have to contact you. The pressure here is too great; I worry it might shatter after one use.”

Yunifrola took the conch and studied it with a flower branch: ”So this thing has such a function! I’ll try to find a demigod one; it definitely won’t break then.”

Hill kept a straight face as he listened to her ruthless statement, choosing to remain silent.

”Even if you get to the Earth Bears’ territory, you can’t go to the deepest part,” Yunifrola said with a smile, ”So visit me when you have time. From here, it’s a short trip to that place. If it’s the speed of a half-elf demigod, it would take about a month.

But elves have weak bodies; they’d be useless by the time they reached the world’s end.

But I can only use elves. Sea monsters and humans can be controlled, but it’s best not to kill them.”

Hill felt Yunifrola already knew he saw through the truth of her seeds, so she no longer hid it at all.

Elves, as invaders, she could deal with as she wished, but for sea monsters and humans, killing was an option. However, once her seeds parasitized them, it was best not to kill them. This was probably the reason Yunifrola’s alignment hadn’t deviated too much.

After all, those she encountered directly invaded Yunifrola’s territory, so she could retaliate to a certain extent.

But it seemed that in the World Will’s calculation, turning people and magical beasts into puppets was a greater evil than casual killing.

This indeed aligned with this world’s situation.

Once the Earth Goddess gave freedom of mind and body to humans, the World Will influenced most profoundly by her naturally valued freedom highly.

Hill straightforwardly said goodbye to Yunifrola; he should be on his journey.

Yunifrola didn’t hold him back much, only urging Hill to come and see her whenever possible.

Hill readily agreed; he dared not owe the Crystal Flower too much, but that didn’t mean he disliked Yunifrola, who was so kind and warm to him.

Perhaps, as their relationship deepened and he understood more, he could feel more at ease with the Crystal Flower.

Leaving Yunifrola’s cave, Hill continued his journey north.

But after only a few days, he surfaced.

The seawater flowed increasingly rapidly, with numerous terrifying vortices; even Hill’s strong body was nearly seriously injured.

Hill decided to walk on land.

After walking along the coastline for about ten days, Hill saw a peculiar sight.

The ocean was receding.

The seawater surged high upwards, roaring, clawing towards a gigantic tree branch blocking their way.

Yet no matter how fierce the waves were, no matter how powerful the force striking that invisible shield erected by the tree branch, they could only fall back limply to the sea, flowing south again.

Hill turned to look at the ocean. In the sea behind him were countless vortices, and the movement of the waves was always chaotic, so he had never noticed. Only the part near the shore was a current flowing back south.

Hill looked up at the massive, seemingly endless tree branch, bowed slightly to it, then turned west.

The endless elemental turbulence blocked his path; Hill could only choose between severe injury and minor injuries.

These were arguably the most challenging days of Hill’s life.
