Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 492: Chapter 290: Kexlote Welcoming Distant Guests

William weighed his options for a while, then decided to let Hill keep the Elephant Shield and the Legendary Equipment while taking the other Demi-God Artifacts with him.

Under the reluctant gaze of Spencer and the observing Guardians, Hill packed up the Demi-God Artifacts.

It seemed that even the Elf Scimitar was coveted by these knights.

Probably to a knight, the distinction of usability didn’t matter, only the lethal power did.

”Although I prefer the Demi-God Artifacts, right now, the more Legendary Equipment, the better,” William sighed. ”Magical Equipment is needed too, especially these magnificent Mage’s Crowns.”

Hill glanced at the few Mage’s Hats on the table, thinking to himself, William calls these trinkets crowns? Aren’t they just silk hats embedded with some magic gemstones?

They were just made from the silk of Magical Beast Spiders, strong in defense, naturally protective against magic, and resistant to water and fire.

The magic gemstones were basically for clarity and concentration, the least useful of the Legendary Equipments.

Many mages didn’t bother wearing them, preferring a browband or a hairpin embedded with magic gemstones instead.

”Hill, don’t think of it merely as a hat embedded with gemstones. In the eyes of the nobles, these crowns are even more meaningful than a mage’s seal ring.

They symbolize dignity and power, just like a king’s crown.”

Hill could understand; it was just that nobles, who didn’t understand mages, valued these crown-like items among all the mage’s gear.

Since William was willing to buy, of course, he was happy to sell!

Hill pulled out some Legendary jewelry. Fran, being a very traditional mage, these pieces were essentially combinations of magic gemstones arranged into a magic array that matched the gemstones’ properties.

Although they were quite magnificent, they were far less ostentatious compared to the flamboyant style brought by the Undead Tribe, Hill initially thought they wouldn’t sell.

But if William said so, that’s traditional, right?

As expected, William finalized the deal and happily packed a set of black-gold jewelry, declaring it a gift for Holmes.

Hill couldn’t help but glance at William; he probably wanted Holmes to stay in Central City and not return to Obastian, right?

As he passed by the administrative departments outside the Royal Palace, he seemed to catch a few words about William finally planning to deal with Obastian.

He had already given the people in that city enough time to change their ways or leave Saral.

If there were still issues, it would be their own undoing.

When Hill left, more than half of the inventory in the ring containing the Legendary Equipment was cleared out.

He likely wouldn’t have to sell materials for a while.

Hill’s pockets were full again! William was indeed the most straightforward major client!

Hill and William had taken a plot of land near the Royal Palace, where they placed an Alchemy Tower.

The Magic Tower he made for Fran was his most perfect work, of course, it wasn’t the only one.

Hill felt that these tower-like structures were suitable for mages to live in.

Indeed, whatever stood the test of time always had its reasons.

A mage could never live without various Magic Arrays, and whether it was a Star Array or a Circular Formation, they fit well inside the circular body of a tower.

It was just that powerful mages could incorporate more minor arrays within the Main Magic Circle.

Hill understood clearly why William felt he was best stationed in Kexlote; obviously, William intended to mine underground himself.

Even though William had gotten some Legendary Equipment from Hill, many Demi-God Artifacts were still with Hill!

Hill believed that William probably wanted to mine out all the down payment he had given to Hill first, wanting to trade with him anytime.

Although Hill wanted to directly give William the equipment he wanted, William was not willing.

He preferred to mine and exchange simultaneously.

Hill was right; after handling some administrative duties, William dove headfirst into the mines below.

Compared to ordinary Elemental Crystals, Space Crystals were still more valuable.

William might really be the most shameless king ever.

Hill could hear some of the Undead assigned to the mining tasks pondering how much he was digging up and how much he still owed Hill.

Hill’s arrival couldn’t be hidden from anyone, especially with various Legendary Equipment now decorating the King’s Hall.

People passing outside the Magic Tower were discussing how much money Hill had made from the king this time.

In Kexlote, the Defensive Magic Array of the Alchemy Magic Tower couldn’t stop William, who possessed the Divine Power of Space.

Every time he mined a certain amount, he would directly teleport to Hill’s study, where Hill could only trade with him amidst mixed feelings of laughter and tears.

Hill truly wished that William would just take it all at once.

But William was very particular about a fair trade, only paying a down payment was his bottom line.

Fran considered William’s divinity and had no choice but to give up on persuading him.

William mined for a full five days, ending his arduous labor amidst the frantic attempts of the Chancellor to dissuade him, as delegations from various princesses began to approach Kexlote.

Although everyone knew that the King of Saral enjoyed mining and saving money, he still had to slightly conceal it in front of the delegations from other countries.

But it was actually almost enough to pay the deposit for Fran’s goods.

However, William felt a bit poor and wanted to mine more, to avoid having to mine again should another need arise.

It was not until the Chancellor of Saral earnestly asked his king why the God of Time and Space, who had been mining on his behalf, could not mine a bit more, that William finally realized and completely put down the mining hoe.

Fran initially planned to return to his territory to wait for the final payment from the God of Time and Space, but the arrival of the Princess Group made him slow his pace.

He just went back once to get the payment and then honestly followed his heart’s desires, staying in Kexlote.

Princesses in this world are popular in certain aspects, but in the eyes of some, they are creatures to be avoided at all costs.

They have wealth and power, and are all absolutely beautiful, but ’arrogant’ doesn’t sufficiently describe their personalities.

They are more akin to the princesses of Han and Tang dynasties, just a bit more fierce in conduct.

Perhaps because, in this world, kings rarely intermarry with other nations; they do not need complex alliances, and the position of queen often goes to women from the Great Nobility within the country.

The princesses are the same; most of the time, they serve as a tool representing the friendly relations between the Royal Family and certain families. Sometimes, if the king’s power is insufficient and fragmented, the fate of a princess is even more tragic, and becoming the wife of a powerful territorial noble is considered good.

Therefore, most princesses possess a spirit of seizing the moment, focusing solely on whether their future husband has the strength to keep them in check.

But this time was different.

First, at the most basic level, the factions of these princesses were definitely beyond reproach.

They were probably uniformly neutral and benevolent; otherwise, they wouldn’t even qualify to be sent to Saral.

Moreover, once far from their homeland and without their kingly fathers to play favorites, even the silliest princess knew to behave herself when abroad.

So Fran thought that this was just a grand matchmaking banquet, perhaps a bit lively and with complex relationships, because everyone wanted the best match, but essentially, nothing untoward was likely to happen.

And there was also an Elf Princess!

This time, the Elf Princess really intended to marry.

Fran had asked those in the know, and the Forest of the Elves had sent off these former Royal Princesses for marriage.

The best among them were grouped together and sent to the human world.

At first, Fran did not understand why they were marrying off the best ones.

Later, he realized that the current Elf Queen had ascended to her position by stepping over the corpse of her predecessor.

She could not afford to keep the enemies’ most capable children, but since these princesses also carried the bloodline of the Elven God King, she did not dare to kill them.

The former Elf Queen had ruled the Forest of the Elves for tens of thousands of years, leaving behind thousands of royal descendants, which is still few for elves.

Even if they suffered under the queen’s misfortune, the remaining unaffected ones were untouchable.

For those above Legendary status, the current queen had to turn a blind eye; for the others, she did not hesitate to begin her schemes.

The Elf Princesses were troublesome, and the internal struggles within the Elven Royal Family were even more fierce.

But for them, in the enemy land of Saral, any grand ambitions had to be concealed.

The only option was to find a husband in Saral who was willing to marry an elf, ideally one with some power.

Fran was genuinely curious about what kind of sparks would fly when such an Elf Princess met a human princess.

Many shared Fran’s thoughts, and these past few days, more members of the Undead Tribe had returned to Kexlote, seventy percent of whom were female.

A few princesses from Noah seemed to understand the situation and quickly secured betrothals with several Earls with the surname Saral. These Earls were actually very distantly related to William’s bloodline; they didn’t even dare choose a Marquis.

But for the Noah Princesses, all they wanted was to establish some relation with Saral, and marrying in was sufficient. Once successful, they planned to just sit back and enjoy the show.

The people of Kexlote generally believed that these princesses deeply understood the essence of Noah’s king.

The first Princess Group to arrive was from Salabia. Fran was curious how the princess from southern Salabia managed to arrive much quicker than their northern counterparts.

It wasn’t until the delegations from Buxton and Boyle clashed outside Kexlote.

It appeared the fierce competition between those two nations allowed Salabia to benefit from their contention.

The Salabia Princess entered Kexlote in a carriage pulled by a massive white rhinoceros.

Fran, sitting in the high tower, could clearly see the procession formed by hundreds of rhinoceroses.

But his attention was completely drawn to the competing groups behind them.

Perhaps realizing that Salabia had taken the opportunity to sneak ahead, the two nations’ delegations stopped fighting and also rushed toward the capital.
