Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 478: Chapter 276: Return! Hill Fed with Dog Food

Hill carefully confirmed the time of his departure.

The war beyond the starry sky had lasted for seven full days.

He then disguised himself and mingled with the Undead hawking their wares to catch up on recent events.

Haggling at the stalls was a daily routine for the Undead.

Especially now, at dusk, many people flaunted the day’s gains, boasting about their luck and strength—mere words couldn’t capture the extent of their tall tales.

If someone’s boast was exposed as a lie, they would quickly change the topic, talking more about the events of the past few days and sharing any rumors they had heard.

So Hill quickly summarized what had indeed happened in these past days.

Shortly after Hill left, William stood on the King’s Ship with a group of Popes, announcing the construction of Sub Temples for all the major Churches, swearing that as long as the Abyssal Gate remained, these Churches would always have people stationed here.

Other deities that didn’t have Churches also issued decrees, stating their intention to watch over this place as well.

Mainly referring to the Sun God, Goddess of the Silvermoon, and Agleya.

The Goddess of Agriculture and Goddess of Love, who lacked Temples, still had faithful followers capable of guarding this region.

The reason these Temples were constructed quickly was that William had opened mission rights to the Undead.

Although these missions still required William’s approval, any Temple fighting Demons here could recruit members of the Undead from the Temple of Time and Space.

Although these missions had to be issued through an adventurers’ tavern provided by the Temple of Time and Space, it was the best option for these Temples that found it hard to recruit ordinary people for menial tasks.

The Noble Temple could take some comfort in the fact that the Undead arriving to take up construction tasks were newcomers; when they joined, the Noble Church had already aligned as allies, never having harshly cursed the God of Nobility.

If it were the original group, the God of Nobility’s vengeful image over tens of thousands of years would have been completely doomed; now, there was at least a veneer of respectability, which could just about be maintained as long as everyone refrained from testing just how thin this veneer was.

To these Undead, they hardly cared which Temple issued the missions. What could be the issue with the Noble Temple? As long as there was money and experience, who cared about the paymaster?

The Abyssal Gate could only be accessed by those who had reached the levels of Magister and Sky Knight.

To advance quickly, the experiences in Saral and Central City were no longer sufficient.

Those Low-order Undead formed their own mercenary groups, taking on numerous basic construction tasks.

Although the Sun God and Goddess of the Silvermoon lacked any Churches, their Temples had been lit.

The Sun God had yet to establish his own Church, but the Goddess of Agriculture had let her followers manage his affairs until a Pope of his own appeared.

In the Temple of the Goddess of the Silvermoon, descendants of the Silvermoon Sorcerers had already stationed many Female Sorceresses there, and folks from the Temple of Knowledge were teaching them how to worship a deity.

Compared to two Temples outside Central City that no one cared about, this place seemed to draw far more attention from the deities in the starry sky.

Hill hesitated for a moment but ultimately resolved not to let Agleya’s Pope be appointed by his own hand.

This was different from the Moon Elves.

Though the Moon Elves were indeed cultivated by Hill, they still grew naturally.

Just like the original Goddess of the Hunt, though she was also grateful to the Goddess of the Silvermoon for their creation, they did not consider Silvermoon to be their biological mother.

They could turn against her at any moment, snatching away her divinity without hesitation, fully aware that doing so would prevent the Silvermoon from ever awakening.

While this was related to the innate nature of those Moon Elves, it also proved that they owed very little to the Silvermoon.

Therefore, Hill straightforwardly let Agleya recruit these Moon Elves. If other deities did not mind their relation to Hill, they too could potentially gather them into their Divine Kingdoms.

A Pope was completely different; Agleya had to cultivate one herself.

Hill strolled and listened for a long time, gradually easing his mind.

The Undead were fiercely battling the Demons that emerged, occasionally encountering Legendary Demons who, in their mouths, were considered loot-rich treasure box bosses needing to be contested.

The weapons and equipment these Demons carried were treasures, but the Undead could not use items associated with the Evil Faction without making some sacrifices to purify these at the Sun God Temple.

Items below the Legendary level could be purified at the Holy Pool in front of the Sun God Temple, albeit for a fee.

If they didn’t want these items, they could take them to the Temple of Time and Space to exchange them for money and military exploits.

Hill had already heard several familiar family names being bitterly cursed by Scattered Ones.

The same few families always won the battle for the boxes; even grouped Scattered Ones couldn’t compete.

Several families, once well-regarded, were now quickly becoming malignant tumors.

Probably only by venturing into the Abyss and needing their command would their reputations restore somewhat.

Hill wasn’t surprised—if it weren’t for the Legendary Demons being too hard to kill, necessitating large group cooperation, then having to compete with lots of Scattered Ones for the kill, maintaining the stability of the Alliance was crucial. Otherwise, it’d be normal for the families within the Snow Cloud Peak Alliance to fight each other over the bosses.

He had played games before and understood these players; in this battle for interests, whether PvE or PvP, they’d break their heads fighting.

The interests of the family always came second; one’s own interests always took precedence.

During this period, the number of people wanting to join those families must be much more than it was in the past when they fought civil wars.

Having confirmed everything that had recently occurred, Hill felt that there probably wouldn’t be any trouble in the short term and decided to go home.

Hill soared into the sky, feeling the night gradually receding.

He stopped retracting his cloud ship into the pendant, joyfully watching the rising sun.

With the dawn spreading red, thin fog slowly dispersed, and Hill sat on the side of the ship, admiring the beautiful scenery.

The sunlight spilled over him, casting beautiful shadows on his face.

Abigail rose into the sky, momentarily losing the desire to speak at the sight of the beautiful scenery, wanting to look a little longer.

Unfortunately, Hill had already sharply turned around, frowning at her, ”What is it?”

”The Tower Master asked me to convey her apologies; she shouldn’t have lost control of him. The recent incident was my fault, I didn’t know that His Highness Alexis acted on his own! I’m really sorry, Mr. Hill! It was all my fault, can you please not blame...”

”No need to say more,” Hill interrupted her bluntly, ”I don’t have that close a relationship with the Sorcerer Tower; of course, I have nothing to say about you choosing to help your own people.

Whether it was before or will be in the future, you don’t need to tell me.”

Abigail could only remain silent. She understood what Hill meant; although not an enemy, the Sorcerer Tower no longer held any status in his eyes.

She did not expect that right when the Tower Master and the sorcerers had started on the right path, they were immediately betrayed from within.

It could not really be called betrayal, but rather, the influence of the Silvermoon Sorcerers was still weak. After the sudden death of the former Tower Master, some who had always stood behind the Tower Master began to have other ideas.

Abigail had initially thought that the affair of the Water Legend seeking Hill was known and condoned by the Tower Master, considering all that Alexis had done for the Sorcerer Tower.

It was only later that she learned the Tower Master was completely unaware, as someone had shielded her view.

And Abigail, trying to be clever by playing deaf and mute, had actually set her own grandmother up for disaster.

She gave up the comfortable environment in Central City to atone for her actions by working in the most dangerous place.

Entering the Silvermoon Temple equated to giving up many years of her efforts at the Sorcerer Tower.

Yet even so, seeing the Tower Master sighing over Hill’s matter, Abigail still felt guilty.

That’s why, the moment she noticed Hill sitting at the bow watching the sunrise, she immediately ran over.

Abigail had always thought Hill was easy to speak with, but her courage to continue defending herself ended when met with Hill’s indifferent glance.

This is a Legendary with Laws! The most powerful among the few in this world!

Even the Tower Master wouldn’t dare speak so casually to a Legendary with Laws.

How could she think, just because Hill was mild-mannered, to come over so brazenly trying to explain herself?

Abigail, sweating coldly, respectfully bowed and took her leave.

Hill’s rare mood to enjoy the beautiful scenery was unpleasantly disrupted.

But he would not vent his anger on an impulsive silly girl.

Abigail really believed the Tower Master could be kept in the dark!

A leader of such a huge power, now, wouldn’t consider good or evil, but would only think about how to grow her own power.

Even William, whose relationship with Hill was considered friendly, would not choose Hill when a conflict arose between him and the Temple of Time and Space!

Hill couldn’t help but scoff; although Abigail was competent, she was too naive, which is exactly why the Tower Master found a way to let her enter the Silvermoon Temple voluntarily!

The slight displeasure Hill felt from being interrupted vanished at the sound of a distant beast’s roar.

A deep, robust leopard’s roar drifted far into Hill’s ears.

Hill blinked and quickly directed the cloud ship towards the source of the roar.

Merkel, a demigod now?

How did it happen so quickly!

The cloud ship was fast, yet Hill was still able to see the earth quaking.

The appearance of the Earth Demigod made this piece of land rejoice happily.

It was a mountain range full of emerald butterflies.

A giant-sized Merkel was frolicking about.

Hill’s ship stopped far away, watching this silly leopard measuring its own territory with its feet.

A cold smirk appeared on Hill’s lips as his hand, initially raised, stopped at the gentle sound of cat meows.

”I’ve missed you so much, Hill,” said the pure white Alice as she stepped onto the side, moving towards Hill and gently licking his face.

”But you still have to accompany this fool. Has he let his beastly nature take over?” Hill asked severely.

”It’s the necessary path for a demigod, to find oneself among the memories of countless ancestors,” Alice said softly, ”Merkel won’t forget his memories, unless he wants to forget me.”

Hill, fed a mouthful of dog food, had an expression of cold indifference.
