Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 471: Chapter 269 Surprise! The Golden Dwarves Turned into Puppets!

The dwarves were not numerous enough to withstand the Undead Tribe, but they chose a relatively advantageous position.

The only entrance to the Dwarf King City.

Above and to the left and right of their heads were thick mountain walls, carved full of defensive formations.

The number of mages fluttering in the sky increased again, hurling dazzling flashings made of spells that one could not look directly at the dwarves, only to be blocked by a layer of golden light on the outside.

The second line of defense for the dwarves was the most powerful Divine Arts defensive formation.

This was a masterpiece completed by the entire power of the Dwarf Deity System before they were driven out of the world.

The thick caldera had become a whole.

The power of Metallic and Fire Elements was not so easily broken.

The Undead Mages, attempting to fly above the clouds to bypass that defensive wall, were then chopped down one by one by golden divine light.

This was the protective power of over a hundred deities of the dwarves, and even William could not easily break through.

The dwarves, silent, held shields in one hand and hammers or axes in the other, standing in rows in the passageway, glaring at the Undead Tribe in front of them.

Yet the Undead Tribe felt nothing and just joyfully shouted, charging straight ahead, following several rows of knights.

In this siege battle, a mage’s attack power was mostly needed. It was rare for knights and swordsmen to be able to storm the gate directly. No matter how more fiercely they charged, the faster they died; they were also very happy.

The howls echoed through the sky.

More and more nobles and Mage Sorcerers came out on the Cloud Ship to watch the excitement. Hill, with a corner of his mouth twitched, still saw no one coming towards the stern of the ship.

Fortunately, it was a giant airship that wouldn’t tilt from being overloaded on one side.

The battle between the Undead Tribe and the dwarves had begun.

Hill turned his head to look at the foot of the mountain, still swarming with an endless stream of Undead, then at the mere tens of thousands of Dwarf Shield Warriors, not knowing whether to admire the dwarves for their fearless bravery.

But he really didn’t think that Golden Dwarves were such brave creatures.

They were not his relatives from the Kind Alignment.

However, at this time, Hill could no longer intervene. It was the battle of the Undead Tribe. As an NPC, at this moment, he could either watch or add some beneficial spells.

Hill gently lowered his Cloud Ship a bit, activating the blessing-type spells on the Demi-God Artifact.

The Blessing of Courage could prevent these Undead from being instantly killed by a surprise attack.

And Resistance to Charm would prevent them from being scared away by demons capable of delivering psychic critical hits.

The thing about Intimidation had nothing to do with whether the person themselves was scared or not.

After noticing the people hurriedly avoiding the King’s Ship, Hill, with a furrowed brow, raised his Cloud Ship back to its original position.

What did these people do to deserve feeling so scared of him?

Sitting in the great hall of the King’s Ship, William also asked Spencer this question. He too was curious. Hill’s potency in that painting was indeed significant, but not to the extent that they couldn’t stand for even a second.

”Your Majesty the King, they are all people who have read ’Hill’s Biography,’” Spencer said with an unchanged expression, ”Hill might not care, but they are afraid of being loose-lipped.

”They have definitely not said anything good about him. In the noble circles, men’s and women’s issues are enough to hold several parties for discussion.

Moreover, Count Pelast’s three wives, they are quite distinctive. Isn’t the third one currently in Central City?

Having just seen her, many people probably repeated that gossip again, so of course they would be afraid of revealing what they might have said in front of Hill.”

”How come I remember that the Olivia who came from Hill’s Domain, was the one terribly sabotaged by the former countess, isn’t she also in the Sub Temple of Central City?”

”Yes, she has already redeemed her sins. Just when the Sub Temple in Central City needed priests from this world, she stayed to work there.”

”So these two women are staying in the same place? Haven’t heard of any issues arising lately?” William curiously asked.

”They know very well what they should not do. If they cause trouble in Central City, probably another soul-redemption journey would get them banished from this world.

Especially the former countess. The Noble Temple at this time definitely wouldn’t dare to stir up more trouble. After making peace with Olivia, she has been keeping to herself.

Often, she comes out to preach for the Goddess of Love. It’s quite ironic, so many nobles go to watch,” Spencer glanced at William, ”Your Majesty, are you free right now?”

”Just a foolish demi-god tried an assassination, allowing little Hill to kill him so joyfully,” William leaned back on his throne, exasperated, ”He was Hill’s enemy. I couldn’t possibly steal the kill.

Over here with the dwarves, I guess we’ll have to wait until all these puppets at the door die before something else happens.”

”Are they really puppets? Aren’t they relatives of the Dwarf King?” asked the Captain of the Guard, unable to help himself.

”They are unified, yes!” William said with a cold laugh, ”Anyone who upheld the principles of the dwarves probably ended up among those puppets below.

It seems the Dwarf Deity System in this world has changed masters halfway through.

When the status of Gray Dwarves suddenly plummeted, that’s probably when things went wrong.

If they were enemies from the beginning, given the dwarves’ temperament, they wouldn’t have been running together with the Gray Dwarves at all.

The Golden Dwarves are generally neutral tending towards evil. Although their deities don’t get along well with the Guardian Gods of the Gray Dwarves, they wouldn’t treat them as badly as they do now.

Watching their own kind be killed is impossible for the neutral Dwarven Deities, and likewise for those leaning towards evil.

”Only those from the Abyss could harbor such hatred towards the Gray Dwarves.”

Spencer looked at the King, who sneered. ”Then do you know who it is?”

William’s face fell immediately. ”The Dwarven Deity System has many gods from the Evil Faction! How could I distinguish among them?”

Spencer knew it would be like this; otherwise, William would have cursed them out long ago.

”However, the demigod who struck at Hill was probably the wife of one of the Dwarven Gods,” William tapped the table in front of him, ”most likely, the Dwarf Queen who desires the position of the Goddess of the Earth.”

”Not the same one backing the dwarves?” Spencer keenly grasped the implication in William’s words.

”No. I can guess a bit about who this goddess might be,” William smiled, ”So her target has always been Hill. If she can just touch the edge of the Earth God Position and return to her original world, she might have her chance.

The deities of our world, once they get there, would probably be considered lower-rank, even the three Main Gods; maybe the Sea God and my boss could touch a bit of it.

The difference in world levels is quite significant.

That’s fine. Our world also has its day of promotion, and there are no weak ones under the World Tree.

But that goddess is thinking too simply, probably seduced by someone, unable to extricate herself, whether it’s Rose or one of those Golden Dwarves that converted to her belief.

Although their divine positions are not very stable, leaving this world might cause them to fall from the altar. But after all, they are still gods, and not everyone could make them switch factions.

In the Dwarven Deity System, only a few female Evil Gods who have gone mad, could move their hearts, tsk! It couldn’t be the son of Moradin, could it?

This Female Evil God is targeting the most powerful goddess among the dwarves, from the Kind Alignment.

Among the dwarves, aside from those few goddesses who covet the divine position, hardly any gods from the Evil Faction target that lady.

I need to think this over.”

Despite having a few options, William still didn’t dare to identify who it was. Spencer wondered if he should be grateful to live in a simpler world.

Had it been in the original world of the dwarves, would ordinary people have no way to survive at all?

He knew very well that with his own skills, if it weren’t for William’s vast wealth, he could never have become a Sky Knight.

”Hill is truly powerful, no wonder those people are even more afraid,” Spencer brought the conversation back, ”That’s a demigod!

”Speaking of demigods, they’re just slightly more powerful Legendary Warriors,” William said nonchalantly, ”If someone can exploit their weaknesses, they’re no match for a Legendary Mage who controls the laws.

A demigod from the Evil Faction, if constrained, facing a legendary who can wield the power of the sun god, doesn’t even need to be the most powerful mage to meet such an end.

In this world, the constraints on gods are very great; that one, even if they wanted, couldn’t bring forth a powerful Legendary Mage as their avatar.

The other so-called demigods, unless they are like Magical Beasts that grow stronger and bigger with age, certainly grow longer and bigger.

Otherwise, whether humans, elves, or dwarves, their strength has limits.

Humanoid bodies cannot break through those limits.

Hey! The dwarves might wish to be like Magical Beasts.”

Spencer shook his head, no longer paying attention to his King who had started rambling again.

It seemed that William was quite certain about what the dwarves wanted to do; he was just waiting, which was why he was so bored.

Suddenly, a loud bang erupted, followed by screams from outside.

Spencer sprang to his feet, the King’s Ship’s Defensive Shield shook with the impact.

He glanced at the unconcerned William and walked out directly.

Hill was a bit startled when the dwarves suddenly self-destructed as the Undead breached the middle of the passage.

He finally confirmed that the dwarves had long been turned into puppets.

The evil aura spread rapidly, shooting out of the passage not just towards the Undead but also towards the King’s Ship.

Since the Undead inside were almost all gone, Hill didn’t hesitate to use the Scorching Radiance from the demi-god artifact, letting endless sunlight surge into the passage.

No matter how many schemes the dwarves had, clearing out the evil aura was sufficient.

Aboard the King’s Ship, William still had a legendary painting with him; they should be sufficient on their own.

Although using up most of the sun god’s power in the semi-divine artifact painting at once, Hill didn’t consider it a waste.

He could feel the painting recharging automatically.

After all, it was sitting next to a large charger.
