Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 440: Chapter 239 The Romantic Elopement Always Ends in Vendetta

Recently, Agleya stopped wanting to chat with her dad, Hill. Every day, it was just ’Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang!’, and her ears hurt terribly.

In three days’ time, even without rest and with boundless strength, Hill managed only to hammer and smelt all the needed ores into a giant rough cast.

He still had to continue forging.

Hammering away for a year and a half.

Hill sat quietly in the Cloud House, sipping tea. The magic array here was modified based on the peculiar pulse from the Cedar Tree Fragments. Its isolation wasn’t inferior to before, and it had increased defensive power.

No matter what happened outside, he could act as if he knew nothing.

But today, he had to stop work. Something was on his mind, and it would affect the rhythm of his hammering.

Lily of the Valley piled a heap of crystal stones beneath herself, ready to absorb their power if needed.

But the result of such an act would be days of slumber, which Lily of the Valley didn’t like much.

Today was special. No matter how impatient Hill was about this, he had to pay extra attention to the half-elf affair and thus had to trouble Lily of the Valley for help.

If the queen won, things would be fine, and Hill could continue staying out of it.

But if this half-elf queen lost, and if that Legendary Half-Elf Gillenskjaern succeeded in godhood, Hill’s days would just get a bit more troublesome. It all depended on whether Gillenskjaern was smart enough.

The reason Fran and Hill remained indifferent towards half-elves was that Viola’s schemes had gone too far.

Of course, perhaps Hill thought too ill of her; Viola might have felt confident enough to ensure her absolute success.

But in Hill’s view, even a ten percent chance of failure shouldn’t drag him and Fran into it.

So, no matter how many people came to plead with him, Hill resolutely hid away, showing his utmost indifference: This matter had nothing to do with him.

Hill didn’t believe that all those who came to him were Gillenskjaern’s people. Gillenskjaern probably just wanted Hill not to interfere and would have been satisfied with that. Forcing Hill to make any commitment was something only a fool would do!

However, the queen was the most desperate to find him.

No matter how many plots and schemes she had, standing with Hill would attract plenty of attention.

Hill had no interest in being a shield.

And if Gillenskjaern succeeded and later came to trouble him, to speak the truth, Hill genuinely didn’t care about a divine subordinate who barely ascended thanks to other deities.

If the Elf Deity System were that united, it wouldn’t be a laughingstock.

So Hill preferred future inconveniences rather than helping Viola remove her enemies right now.

It’s just a matter of hiding a bit more! Hill wasn’t afraid of loneliness.

Hill leaned against the window, looking at the island below, which had turned into a small farm, feeling gradually calm.

The appointed time arrived, and the coronation ceremony officially began.

This was a God-witnessed event, a nation-founding and crowning ceremony solely involving half-elves. The future queen announced only the time, inviting no human or elf to attend.

Humans weren’t particularly concerned about this; a new nation splitting off from the elves seemed favorable.

Probably only mages cared enough to watch, though most were just observing the spectacle.

Hill raised his head; intense elemental fluctuations appeared in the southeast direction.

Lily of the Valley quickly lifted her golden bell, which emitted a thunderous crash.

Nearing Central City, the immense explosion could be heard, definitely not the power two legends could wield.

”Hill!” Adrian’s voice came from the bell, ”The elves and druids have fallen out. Whatever you do, don’t come out. Your ancestor is leading the offenders!”

”What?” Hill couldn’t help but exclaim, even knowing Adrian couldn’t hear him.

”We don’t know exactly what’s going on yet, but word is that Viola’s backed by the first Moon Elf with Earth Bear Bloodline. She married a member of the Elf Royal Family but later fell out with them. They had a daughter who married into the Moon Elf Royal Family, as Viola’s ancestor.

Now, it’s not Viola fighting against Gillenskjaern, but that demigod druid and a male half-elf ranger.

They seem to be mortal enemies. No details yet, but they are headed for the Forest of the Elves.

Never thought the first Moon Elf with Earth Bear Bloodline was still alive.

Truly a druid thing to do!”

Hill tapped his fingers: He knew who it was.

Just a peculiar feeling, with so many things cropping up so fast, even faster than a tornado.

However, no matter what tragic events this lady faced in the Forest of the Elves, Hill wouldn’t sympathize.

When she chose to marry her father’s enemy, her fate was sealed.

Hill sensed disturbances in the starry sky, indicating some elf gods were itching to intervene.

Even underground, Hill heard the crisp laughter of the Goddess of the Silvermoon: ”Earthbound matters are best left to mortals. Otherwise, we won’t be polite either~”

”This is an elven matter!” A woman’s voice retorted.

”Who knows, you might attack humans or wolf packs in passing.” The Goddess of the Silvermoon spoke earnestly, ”Moreover, I’m not just a human goddess, the entire world can believe in me, elves included. I’m open to all, you see~

So you can’t say I can’t meddle in elven affairs.

In this world, as long as there’s no obstruction, there’s no place moonlight can’t reach!

Unless elves aren’t part of this world!

If you dare say that, I’ll head back to the moon to watch the show!

Do you dare?”

The opposing voice faded, and the starry sky returned to calm.

Hill shook his head, laughing. Yet another elf goddess had emerged!

”Hill.” Adrian said on the other end, ”If the gods can’t intervene, it’ll be a fight to the bitter end! That half-elf queen is diverting attention from you! Or others would have noticed the Moon Elf Druid’s involvement already!

No wonder our teacher didn’t want that half-elf to get close to you. Perhaps she’s not entirely malicious, but this habit of exploiting everyone and everything around her is truly disconcerting.

If it doesn’t kill people, does it mean she can mess around as she pleases?

Even if she founds a nation, Hill, don’t bother with them in the future.

The half-elf queen could live long after becoming a demigod, needing no heirs!

They think you’ll risk your life for an empty title, how naive!”

It seemed for quite some time, the half-elf delegation in Central City had been trying to instill this idea in humans.

Hill had the right to the throne of the Half-Elf Kingdom.

Until the queen had her own children, Hill was her sole heir.

Unfortunately, the half-elves thought too much.

”I think the Half-Elf Kingdom’s persistence won’t necessarily forge a good relationship with humans.” Adrian continued, ”What pride makes them believe a Legendary Mage bound by laws would be swayed by such trivial matters?

They always thought I didn’t tell you: as long as you wish, you can become the crown prince of the Half-Elf Kingdom, a future member of the Elf Deity System.

That’s why you’re so indifferent.

Agleya’s divine kingdom shines brightly in the starry sky!

Do they think a main god’s recognized father is inferior to a minor elf deity?”

Even the nobles of Saral wouldn’t see such words as tempting.

Both elves and half-elves prided themselves on their elven bloodline, so they believed a law-bound legendary would covet a half-elf throne.

Especially when it was such an empty offer.

Viola could at any time have a child as her primary heir.

No noble would trust in nominal power.

And human legendary mages usually settled their debts and karma before becoming legendary. Nobles with some lineage knew this.

No need to mention ordinary legendaries, but any law-bound legendary wouldn’t willingly over-involve themselves in worldly affairs.

Unless it’s a world-existential battle like the Dwarven War, legendary laws-bound mages wouldn’t interfere.

No one believed Hill would abandon his extended lifespan for a karma-bound minor kingdom.

Moreover, most humans, like Adrian, thought if Hill ever had to rely on divinity for survival, Agleya’s divine kingdom would be the better fit!

Hill smiled helplessly: It seemed half-elf demigods knew a bit about the world’s truths.

If human deities had to coexist with the world, the Elf Deity System could wash their hands of it at any time.

So they were haughty, looking down on humans bound to this world’s fate.

Even without godhood, elves in certain positions believed they would have the protection of the Elf God King.

Thus, humans viewed elven infighting as madness.

But elves felt even under divine governance, their lives were assured.

So they stayed out of worldly battles, merely awaiting the result of the Human-Dwarf Wars.

Meanwhile, vying for their status to ensure they weren’t abandoned by the divine system.

Adrian, unaware of the true world, concluded elves were overly proud.

But did that lady really know the world’s truths?

Could this be why she thought offering Hill a future king’s position would entice him?

At the very least, with the title of crown prince, Hill could escape with the Elf God King in times of trouble.

So, was Viola really just a Legendary Druid?

Hill had his doubts.

Why did he never find it strange?

The number of legendary half-elf druids was considerable, let alone rangers and mages.

Why did they all submit to Viola, making her queen so decisively?

Even with the support of that demigod druid, it seemed impossible.

Viola couldn’t be the only legendary druid with Earth Bear Bloodline in these millennia.

Hill blinked: Had Fran hidden away, guessing this or not?
