Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 410: Chapter 209: The Mountain Collapses and the Earth Splits, The Sound Interrupts the Moving Clouds

Hill smiled at Adrian’s sigh.

Maybe it’s because people in this world always have a sense of imminent crisis, few consider the future.

Family planning, the future of descendants, everything must make way for one’s own interests.

Nobles are no different; benefits at their fingertips are their pursuit.

Even if Adrian hadn’t become a Legendary Mage, he would still live for at least a thousand years.

Naturally, his perspective on issues was more long-term.

”Without Naven, the Spencer Family wouldn’t have gotten so many benefits,” Adrian said disdainfully, ”Does everyone think they can win His Majesty the King’s favor and trust?

Fools always consider others’ achievements their own, then place themselves on a pedestal.”

Hill had no intention of discussing other people’s affairs; the Spencer Family’s matters were irrelevant to him.

Adrian, unlike Hill, who had never attended a noble banquet, received a more comprehensive noble education and participated in traditional noble social interactions over the years.

From birth, he paid attention to these noble families’ affairs, as many were people he had known since childhood.

As time passed, when his peers were gone from this world, Adrian naturally lost interest in this hobby.

Therefore, even Fran didn’t care about Adrian’s interest in these matters.

Hill was simply concerned about how Adrian would suppress the Great Nobility. It sounded like William was planning to keep some people working in Central City.

”It’s nothing,” Adrian waved it off nonchalantly, ”His Majesty the King won’t leave Central City for the short term.

All I need to do is prevent them from fighting in the city. I can control most of the Magic Arrays here, which is enough.

The reason it has to be me is that I don’t care if it’s the Great Nobility stirring up trouble; I can squash it as soon as it starts.

What can they do to me?

The real concern is the Undead Tribe; we mustn’t provoke them into an uprising.

Nobles thrive on petty schemes, but are those effective against the Undead Tribe?

I just need to hit them back before the nobles start anything. Some people can’t see through them, but I know what stink they’re about to let off as soon as they open their mouths.

I’m not the one dealing with daily affairs; there are many ordinary officials in Saral’s division dedicated to managing Undead affairs.

My task is to ensure that no Great Noble can meddle in these day-to-day matters and cause trouble.

They have no other skills, but their methods of being a nuisance are endless.”

Hill nodded with some hesitation, saying, ”I think the Undead might actually prefer these little disturbances.”

”Of course they like them,” Adrian rolled his eyes in exasperation, ”How rare is the opportunity to beat up everyone from low-level officials to the nobles behind the scenes?

But I can also understand His Majesty the King’s mindset; these ordinary officials are innocent, and after many years of effort to train them, ruining them over such trivialities is pointless.

They are just accustomed to obeying the will of the Great Nobility, not genuinely wanting to trouble the Undead.”

”There will always be those who take bribes to get things done,” Hill reminded coolly.

”If they’re asking for death, why should I care?” Adrian said indifferently, ”I’m only going to make sure that officials who stand by their principles aren’t coerced into doing things they don’t want to.”

Actually, that’s quite reasonable.

Here, it’s unlikely that Adrian will get into any real trouble, and no matter how foolish, the nobles wouldn’t want to directly face the wrath of two Legendary figures.

As for the upcoming confrontation with the Mage Association and the Sorcerer Tower.

Let alone the fact that William will remain here for a long time, even if they cause trouble, Saral, the Legendary figure, is not to be trifled with.

The Magic Arrays here suit the Legendary Holmes; that peculiar Law.

Not to say he could single-handedly take on a hundred, but dealing with several Legends at the same time would certainly be no issue.

Moreover, Adrian, wearing a Legendary Puppet all year round, doesn’t lack much in fighting power compared to a Legend.

Rather than worrying about future troubles, Hill was more curious about how Adrian, who tended to act first and report later, had suddenly become so bold.

”Does your grandfather know?” Hill asked the key question.

”You can contact the teacher here, right?” Adrian deflated instantly, he hadn’t mentioned it yet.

”Are you staying at the Lord’s Mansion now?” Hill asked puzzledly, ”Then we’ll need to install a communication device first.”

”I brought the Alchemy Magic Tower the teacher gave me,” Adrian turned his head away, not meeting Hill’s expression, ”I just thought that it might be better to talk about it here with you.”

”Even if grandfather were to scold you, he wouldn’t care if I’m standing by, would he?” Hill said, stunned.

”No, I think... flying a bit further away from Central City in this Cloud House would be better.

Although my Alchemy Magic Tower could also fly away before activating it, doing so in front of others would be rather foolish,” Adrian said with a bitter expression, ”When getting scolded, I really don’t want the instigator to overhear. It feels unjust to me.”

Hill almost laughed out loud, directing the Cloud Ship to soar up and away, finally settling amidst the clouds 100 kilometers from Central City, where he activated the Magic Array to conceal their location.

Adrian knew that if Hill, with his keen senses, felt William couldn’t hear them here, there was definitely no issue.

He stood up and headed into Hill’s small study, in all honesty, to contact Fran and face the music.

Hill leaned by the window, waiting to hear Fran’s reaction.

In fact, this place couldn’t guarantee that William wouldn’t hear them, but that assumed William specifically came to eavesdrop.

Hill felt that although this person was nosy, he wasn’t quite shameless.

Fran wouldn’t necessarily scold Adrian, but he would surely mock him.

Adrian’s asking price wasn’t too far off, but it was still a bit low.

After all, William had taken advantage of Adrian’s ignorance regarding the matters of the Mage Association.

The branch president who would be dispatched to Central City was definitely a direct line of Draculus and couldn’t possibly be unaware of Adrian’s identity.

As long as Adrian simply sat there, the Mage Association would have the impression that one of their own was in place and would unlikely stir up any trouble.

Replacing him would only be more detrimental to them.

As for the Sorcerer Tower, not to mention that they still needed William’s help, Hill was still floating around here!

But Adrian was not to blame; he simply didn’t know.

He thought that William relied on the legendary prowess of Holmes to suppress the people from the Mage Association and the Sorcerer Tower.

Since Fran had decided to conceal the truth from Adrian, he had to bear the consequences of that secrecy.

However, Hill slightly doubted that Fran would go directly to William.

An Alchemist Master with the principle of equivalent exchange ingrained in his bones would definitely retrieve the lost ground.

Leaning against the window, Hill listened with a smirk to Fran’s sarcastic remarks one after another, indeed all about how shallow Adrian’s foresight was and how low his asking price had been.

Suddenly, Hill looked towards the distance.

Had the people from the Mage Association arrived?

He watched a plain white sailboat skillfully cut through the sky, flying towards the direction of Central City.

Someone was standing on the deck, looking in Hill’s direction.

Although the Legendary Mage couldn’t see through the mist and Illusion Array, the elemental fluctuations during Adrian’s communication had caught his attention.

The sailboat was swift, vanishing from Hill’s sight in an instant.

The vigilant Legendary Mage, however, had no intention of flying over to investigate.

Hill could feel it; aboard his ship were many Low-rank Mages.

Draculus wouldn’t be planning to use William’s area as a newbie sanctuary, would he?

Hill leaned over the window and turned to shout to Adrian in the study, who was being quizzed by Fran, ”The people from the Mage Association have arrived; they’ve brought a lot of people, and it seems there are Junior Mages too.”

Before Adrian could turn to come out, the three people on both ends of the communicator heard a loud bang.

Despite the great distance from here, the terrifying intensity of the shock made the Cloud Ship shudder for a while.

Hill felt his eardrums vibrating.

Though the roar came from afar, it felt as if it had exploded right in his heart.

This was the impact caused by elemental fluctuations.

Even the Law Lines on his fingertips seemed to tremble in response.

Adrian quickly rushed out of the room and, alongside Hill, leaned on the ship’s rail to look North.

Where the Mage Association was located, black smoke billowed, blocking out the sun, with flashes of red light shooting out occasionally.

”Wow~ that’s fierce!” Adrian knew the Mage Association would be in trouble, but he didn’t expect it to be this serious.

If the president was going to take a hand in cleaning up the Association, Fran would definitely have told him.

Of course, he had also mentioned that the president was an Alchemist Master and that the Mage Kingdom was essentially under his control.

But blowing up an entire nation like that, a normal person really couldn’t do such a thing.

Given Adrian’s many years of alchemy knowledge, such a terrifying explosion, even capable of reaching as far as the distant South, could mean that the mountain range where the Mage Kingdom was situated would have been completely obliterated.

Hill sharply turned to look back at the sailboat that had just flown past; he had just estimated that there weren’t more than 3,000 people on that ship.

The Mage Kingdom, though small in terms of land area, did not have a small population.

It was a country nestled among mountains, with Magic Towers nestled on small peaks surrounding the tallest main peak in the center.

The Mage Council’s headquarters were located there.

Hill had initially thought that Draculus would merely clean out the entire headquarters, but the fierce burning rage of his Innate Natural Consciousness told him that what had vanished was the entire mountain range.

That was a country of hundreds of thousands of people; it was impossible that only 3,000 had escaped!

”There are just over 3,000 people on that ship,” said Hill, his tone heavy.

Looking at Hill’s extremely troubled expression, Adrian consoled him, ”That president, although heartless in his actions, would not easily harm so many innocent people. If there are few survivors, it can only prove that the entire Mage Association has rotted away.

Besides, I haven’t heard of him calling members from the various branches back. They are mostly fine, and those who colluded with demons wouldn’t dare enter the many Temple Churches.”

Hill shook his head; he too had just realized that the Mage Association might have split up.

The ones coming over to Central City were probably just Draculus’s people.

The other Legendary Laws had their own Legitimate Line students, and wouldn’t let Draculus take them down so easily.

But those who had dealt with demons, whether willingly or not, were likely all dead.
