Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 423: Chapter 222: News Travels Far, The Cat’s Revenge

Adrian continued mumbling. Recently, he probably had been bottling this up because he didn’t dare to talk to anyone else, so he put extra effort into grabbing Fran and Hill for a chat.

”Holmes will likely stay in this city from now on. He already didn’t want to deal with those fools from the Saral Royal Family. Nobody here dares to mess with him anymore,” Fran said, sitting a bit farther away, as he couldn’t stand Adrian’s endless chatter.

”Who would dare mess with him!” Adrian interjected, ”He even found a few members of the Undead Tribe to ask about some corrosion potion-related things, seeing how they could be used in their world.”

”Who told you that?” Fran asked warily. Was this guy really getting mixed up with the Undead Tribe again?

”The young master came to play with me a couple of days ago and told me. The Undead Tribe summarized three thousand ways of using corrosion abilities for Holmes,” Adrian said, embarrassedly smiling. ”The young master was quite proud; several of his ideas were adopted.”

”Does His Majesty the King know? Holmes will experiment with each of them. With his usual habits, he’ll know if something works just by trying it once,” Fran frowned. ”If he isn’t leaving Central City, who will he experiment on?”

”He already notified me and the Guard Corps. If anyone causes trouble, notify him directly,” Adrian smiled. ”It will lessen my troubles a bit.”

”That’s true. Once Holmes decides, even His Majesty the King can’t change it,” Fran nodded. ”With him here, anyone daring to cause trouble is either stupid or downright malicious; they deserve whatever punishment comes their way.”

Hill nodded and looked up at Adrian, ”Do you want to plant some flowers and grass around your Magic Tower? It looks so barren. The Lord’s Mansion is so big; why don’t you decorate it a bit?”

”Those nobles are annoying; I don’t like seeing them in the courtyard,” Adrian looked around. ”I put a lot of effort into designing the garden, and I’d hate for them to critique it. I’m afraid I might not control the urge to strike them,” he said.

”What? They criticized the park designed by me and my grandfather?” Hill quickly caught on.

”Said the colors were too monotonous, the variety too few, the layout too simple, not luxurious enough,” Adrian said simply. ”They’re actually criticizing His Majesty the King’s aesthetics. Not daring to say it outright, they claimed the park’s design was too hasty.”

”Anyone can make suggestions, I don’t mind listening to them,” Fran’s mouth curved into a dangerous smile.

”I don’t believe you’d just listen to them. Uncle Adrian, what did you do?” Hill’s eyes widened in anticipation of hearing some good news.

”Did nothing much. Just hung them from the big trees in the park to have them analyze where exactly the design was unsatisfactory. If they had reasonable opinions, my mentor and I would listen,” Adrian said nonchalantly with a smile.

The King couldn’t be offended, but could they offend Legendary Mages? And offend two at once?

Nobles habitually used a stronger party to suppress a slightly weaker one, but even if William was willing to act on their behalf, neither Fran nor Hill would be afraid of William!

”Why are they still so clueless?” Hill muttered, ”How many people have died already?”

”They’re worried that I’ll turn this Central City into our hereditary territory of the Magic Tower,” Adrian explained simply. ”They’re waiting for the Dwarves to completely fail before taking over this city. Naturally, they want us to loosen our cooperation with His Majesty the King.”

Hill blinked, ”They can’t compete with the Undead Tribe, so they think they can compete with you? How naive!”

”Power and profit are ingrained in their bones; even if they can’t get something, they’d prefer others not to have it. Don’t worry about them,” Adrian smiled. ”I am very clear about what matters most to me.

However, if I really wanted to become a hereditary lord here, I would have to endure many things.

No city can exist independently; some compromises must always be made for certain matters.

They understand this too, which is why they calmed down as soon as I acted decisively.

They can test me if they want; they just have to bear the consequences.

But I’m still not willing to make this place more comfortable, allowing them to enjoy my work?

They’ll be living in the Lord’s Mansion for a long time after all.”

Hill blinked and took out a pouch of seeds, ”These are experimental seeds I made. They have no other abilities except growing fast. Scatter them today, and they’ll grow to nearly a meter tall by tomorrow morning. The flowers are blue and purple, quite fitting.”

Adrian laughed, ”Tell me what they can do.”

”Not much. They simply invigorate people’s spirits, which is good for those working here.

During a break, they can go down and inhale the fragrance of the flowers to quickly regain energy for work.

There’s just a slight downside; staying for more than six hours continuously will cause over-excitement, requiring a lot of physical activity to dissipate it.

But I doubt anyone here has the time to stay in the grass that long, right?

They seem quite busy,” Hill said.

”How do they grow so fast?” Fran, clicking his tongue in amazement at Adrian being a little rascal, asked Hill with some curiosity, ”Did you use the same thing on the Dwarves?”

”Sometimes, when facing danger, people’s spirits get tense, forcing them to think of many ways,” Hill said cheerfully. ”To produce more Emerald Butterfly seeds, I almost numbed myself using Nature’s Blessing. Finally, I thought of a good way, soaking these seeds in water created by some Water System Divine Arts, and then using Nature’s Blessing through the water, keeping the seeds in the germination stage.

Once they touch the soil, they take root and sprout quickly, and that bit of Nature’s Blessing helps them grow fast.

Even the unblessed Emerald Butterflies can sprout in days, with their root systems having a strong ability to absorb energy!

As long as there’s sufficient underground energy, they grow faster than the orchids I give Uncle Adrian; if the deployment by His Majesty the King is swift enough, by tomorrow morning we will see patches of beautiful flower sea.

And as long as there is sufficient energy, they will reproduce even faster.”

Adrian stared at Hill in astonishment, ”You’re really ruthless! So unless the mine is exhausted, these flowers won’t stop growing?”

Hill replied seriously, ”I’m doing it for the good of the earth. The Dwarves consume too much metal ore; it once belonged to the earth!

It’s not just gold, but also wood!

Now I’m combining these two elements and returning them to the earth, how wonderful is that!

The Goddess of the Earth will love it!”

Fran asked, ”Are those flowers easy to deal with?”

”I can’t even cut them myself,” Hill said cheerfully. ”Their only weakness is the temperature of divine fire comparable to the Sun God Fire, which is insurmountable.”

”Even if they could manage that, wouldn’t the mine be burnt down?” Adrian blurted out.

”If the Dwarves burn it themselves, what does that have to do with me?” Hill said emotionlessly, ”It would only prove the Metal System indeed doesn’t belong to them.”

”No wonder the Dwarves want to kill you; it’s not entirely undeserved!” Adrian exclaimed, receiving a bonk on the head from Fran with a crystal ball.

”What’s this, Master?” Adrian asked, grinning.

”Some new things I’ve been summarizing over the last few days. Take some time to look at them,” Fran said helplessly, ”Stop being so blunt.”

”It’s just that Hill can do all that, yet we didn’t know.” Adrian ignored his mentor’s well-meaning words, ”How did the Dwarves know?”

”They don’t know,” Hill coldly laughed. ”If they did, they wouldn’t be this reckless; instead, they’d try to divert my attention. The Earth Bear has been planting trees in the wilderness, trying to awaken the Goddess of the Earth. The Dwarves simply don’t want me to help them.”

Adrian frowned, ”Compared to the nearby Undead Tribe, they find you, who haven’t even gone to the wilderness, more dangerous? No wonder His Majesty the King began mobilizing the Undead Tribe as soon as he returned, trying to force those Dwarves into battle.”

Hill nodded, ”The Dwarves care even less about this world than the Elves; they only want the Earth Deity’s divinity. Who knows what their intentions are.”

Hill couldn’t say more; the World Will blocked all relevant content.

But he understood, the Dwarves’ success would mean the destruction of this world.

”Hill,” Adrian picked up a tablet. ”Perfect Baldy wants to see you.”

Hill was surprised and nodded.

Hadn’t Black Rose already stormed into the Dwarf Kingdom? They were even resting there occasionally, sending back a few ladies wanting to relax and shop.

In black leather armor, covered in battle scars, the once pony-tailed little loli had become a little warrior with short, tousled hair.

”I ran into Alice,” Perfect Baldy said crisply. ”She sent me to deliver some things she gathered in the Dwarf Kingdom.

She also knows about your attack.

She specifically found us to ask about your current situation.

We showed her video footage of you at Master Fran’s Magic Tower.

But she still wants revenge.

Merkel is planning joint operations with our magical creatures recently.

I just saw Mr. Hill issue a task? Can we join in?”

”Quite suitable,” Hill said, holding a small package in mixed emotions. ”Alice can bless these flowers to grow well. You can attack the mines first, pack up the extracted ores and bring them back. Then plant the flowers.

Regardless of whether His Majesty the King accepts the ores, I will buy them all at market price.”

Baldy’s eyes lit up, ”That’s great. We’ve been consuming a lot lately. Even though potions are plenty, food consumption is still high.”

Hill nodded, ”Consider this your delivery payment.” He tossed Baldy a shell, ”Inside are Water Storage Pearls and some edible plants that grow in water. Water speaks for itself; as long as you don’t overeat the plants, they will keep growing.”

Baldy grinned, ”Thank you, Mr. Hill, this is very helpful! What about your return gift? I promise to deliver it safely, without even touching the lid of the box!”

Adrian laughed out loud.
