Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 418: Chapter 217: A Shocking Sword Strike, Hill is Assassinated!

Fran stood in the air, continuously looking around.

Hill figured he was searching for Karula.

Although the lady was out of sight, it didn’t necessarily mean she had left.

The Half-Elf Demigod probably knew this too, as the three of them stood back to back in the air with curved swords tightly gripped in their hands.

”Why not just kill him?” Draculus, with a steely face, stood in the air and looked at the dying Feruccio Betti, then turned to William and said, ”This God of Smithing is so foolish, even if someone is behind him, they won’t intervene to help.”

”It doesn’t matter. He won’t cause any trouble,” William said with a faint smile. ”We must seize even the slightest chance. I will catch the person who is meddling from behind!”

The Legendary Laws, all stood in the air, waiting for Feruccio Betti to breathe his last.

His death signaled that the Mage Association would come to a definitive end.

From then on, everyone would go their separate ways.

The mages would return to their independent lives.

Draculus stood in the air, watching the former vice president struggle for life in the sunlight, unable to hide a trace of bewilderment on his face: ”How did Feruccio end up like this? He once fought against the deities for the mages’ independence and freedom too. Compared to the others who have already left, he cared about humanity more than I did.

With so many ways within the Legendary Laws to prolong life, he didn’t really need to fear death, did he?

I always thought only those frauds unworthy of even a glance at the starry sky would be tempted by demons.

How could the Legendary Laws be tempted by chaos?

We have come this far relying on clever brains and sufficient rationality!”

”Isn’t the ultimate freedom chaos?” William said softly. ”Being high above for too long, humans in his eyes are no different than ants.”

”How can intelligent beings be the same?” Draculus instinctively said.

”Speaking from a position of absolute neutrality is really uncomfortable,” William frowned slightly. ”Do you no longer consider yourself human?”

”I am certainly human. Otherwise, why would I fight for the survival of humanity?” Draculus looked at William strangely. ”But aside from the survival of humanity, why should I care about individual lives? What do they have to do with me?”

William waved his hand: ”Suit yourself.

Faction is your freedom, as long as it’s not evil.

But your people shouldn’t come to my territory and kill someone because they think someone upset your balance.

Abiding by Saral’s rules is my only requirement for you.”

Draculus said indifferently, ”If they act foolishly, punish them according to the rules of Saral. If they can’t even ensure this, they are doomed sooner or later.”

William turned his head, looking at Fran: ”Master Fran, are you and Hill going back directly?”

Fran gently floated up: ”The aftermath of that fractured half-plane is still here, we will wait here a bit longer.”

William smiled faintly: ”It seems the half-plane has a great attraction for legendary mages! Are you planning to keep it?”

”Huh?” William suddenly frowned, looking down as golden flames started to burn on the ground.

”They’re all dead!” he looked down. ”I thought you would ask him why he betrayed humanity.”

”No need,” Draculus revealed a cold smile. ”Betrayal is the outcome, no matter what the reasons. Perhaps what was significant in his heart is merely whining over trivial matters to me.

After all, his fate is only death. Why bother listening to his foolish words, let him spout nonsense.

Even if nobody wants to eat it, it still stinks!”

William blinked, realizing that if he didn’t discuss values with Draculus, the man could still make for some conversation.

Unfortunately, a few more words would only lead to the urge to turn away in disagreement.

”Who!” William suddenly shouted angrily, charging directly toward Hill’s cloud ship.

Fran also rushed over immediately, casting his strongest defensive magic.

They both knew Hill’s mana was almost depleted.

This was the most dangerous moment.

A sharp scream suddenly erupted, making all the legends standing in the air feel dizzy.

Although Fran’s defensive magic and the cloud ship’s own Defensive Magic Array each held off the attack for a second, the slashing sword light, vested with more power than even the Elven God King’s arrow, was extraordinarily potent.

Hill’s cloud ship was instantly cleaved in half.

William and Fran could only watch helplessly as the bisected cloud ship plummeted towards the ground.

William, annoyed, thrust his sword at the spot where the cloud ship had just been.

Although the spatial fluctuations were not extensive, they were enough to prevent the enemy from hiding any longer.

The space tore open, and a diminutive figure appeared in mid-air.

She laughed uproariously, rolling over: ”He’s doomed! Nature Warlocks, such creatures, shouldn’t exist!”

William, with a steely face, pursued with his sword.

No matter if Hill would be harmed, the very act of assassination under his watch was a direct provocation.

Moreover, since Hill was known as the Legendary Sorcerer of Saral, this was a direct slap in the face to him as the King of Saral.

Fran without looking back, sent hundreds of spells crashing down toward the direction the cloud ship fell.

Fran knew that Hill had been standing in the study until just before the fall, and even if the direct mental attack genuinely caused him to faint, it was unlikely to kill him immediately.

The Dwarf assassin hadn’t pursued Hill further, which meant he couldn’t have killed Hill already.

There must still be someone on the Cloud Ship.

Fran still trusted Hill’s instincts.

If there really were enemies aboard, they must have seized the opportunity when the Cloud Ship broke apart.

Fran had initially wanted to dive down and catch the Cloud Ship, but he quickly noticed that Hill’s Earth Element Lord hadn’t rushed over in a panic.

Instead, he bombarded the cabin’s periphery with spells from a distance.

Including the two Earth Element Lords.

These were beings akin to Hill’s family.

Thus, Fran also slowed down, following behind the Element Lord’s spells and directly destroyed the fractured areas around the cabin.

However, as the fragments of the Cloud Ship he destroyed fell, several Dwarf bodies fell too.

Fran looked surprised for a moment, and just as he was about to pursue, he heard a loud voice, ”Don’t go there, the poison sac has burst!”

It was Hill’s Earth Element Lord.

Fran could tell that the Lord’s voice was steady and contained only surprise, not panic.

Relieved, Fran turned back and also rushed toward the Dwarf female assassin William was pursuing.

”Her sword!” William sensed Fran’s arrival and spoke out immediately.

Fran’s Demi-God Artifact Crystal Ball floated in the air, spinning rapidly, and numerous spells directly targeted the Dwarf.

At the same time, countless fireballs and Ice Rings smashed directly at the shortsword in the Dwarf’s hand.

He could see it was a Divine Artifact.

A slight smile appeared on Fran’s lips; the Dwarf hadn’t dodged them all, and the shortsword had taken quite a few hits.

However, his expression soon became frozen.

The small figure suddenly blurred and dashed toward the ground, disappearing behind a huge rock.

William and Fran used their most powerful spells to smash the rock into pieces, even scraping the ground several hundred meters deep, but there was no response.

William, in his fury, waved his hand, slicing everything nearby with Spatial Magic.

Fran gritted his teeth and gave up turning back.

He gently floated toward Hill’s location: ”Hill, are you safe?”

”Very safe,” the Earth Element Lord responded, ”But he isn’t in a position to talk, he’s hiding. He doesn’t plan to keep us here anymore; it wastes too much spiritual power. Hill wants you not to worry about him. This is the poison of Windmill Jasmine, anyone who goes near there will die.

The poison mist will probably dissipate after half a month, and Hill will hide very well. Don’t worry.”

Fran nodded; he remembered that pendant of Hill’s.

Apparently, Hill hadn’t been affected by that Mental Attack.

Moon Goddess’s blessing, did it really enhance his resistance to mental spells that much?

Fran was very clear that it was a Demigod Level attack.

William stood quietly, not speaking, but the anger he couldn’t suppress was palpable.

”Why don’t you all take action?” he asked coldly, addressing the always observant Draculus.

”This is their own affair.” Draculus removed his amiable mask, saying mercilessly, ”Mages do not intervene without reason. Fran knows this too; he hasn’t asked for help, has he?

The attack has happened, and unless Polanio is about to be killed, he also won’t easily pay the price to ask for help.

Since Fran hasn’t spoken, it shows he believes he can protect Polanio himself.”

”Even though you all just fought side by side?” William’s expression was stony as he looked at Draculus and the surrounding legendary beings of the laws.

”King of Saral, you don’t understand the affairs of mages,” Draculus said indifferently, ”Otherwise, why would Polanio, when running low on mana, hide himself and not come out?

He worries there might be someone here who would attack him.

I can’t assure that no mage would strike at him.

At the very least, that Half-Elf Mage standing down there might have.

He isn’t holding out hope that we would intervene.

Even Fran would, at most, seek vengeance for him, not go out of his way to protect him.”

A cold smile appeared on Fran’s lips: ”No need for so many words, none would expect someone as emotionless as you to help. His Majesty the King might be surprised, simply because he doesn’t understand the thought processes of someone devoid of humanity.”

Fran glanced at William: ”His Majesty probably feels, since he has some relation to him, how can he still be so indifferent?”

As William turned toward him, Fran’s lips curled in a disdainful smile: ”He could watch even his own student be sent to death. If I were willing to abandon my own teacher’s Alchemy School and follow him, he wouldn’t care if his student’s legacy ended.

That’s why I rejected him without hesitation back then.

I didn’t want to turn into an old monster at such a young age.”

Seeing Draculus act as if he hadn’t heard, William truly understood what absolute neutrality meant for the first time.

No matter how well he seemed to get along with you, when it came down to it, he could still watch you die.
