Divine Level Witch Doctor

Genji Doju was startled and asked, ”What did you say? Kawashima has already tried four different formulas?”

He had been preoccupied, pondering why Kawashima Haruhiro was showing symptoms of vital Qi depletion and collapse of Yang Qi. Lost in thought, he hadn’t been paying attention to the situation and was unaware of this development. It wasn’t until he heard his disciple’s question that he realized something was very wrong.

The disciple nodded. ”Yes. I’ve been counting. Four formulas. I’m absolutely sure.”

The words had barely left his mouth when Kawashima Haruhiro’s voice drifted out from the examination room. ”Go, get me another dose of medicine according to this formula. The pharmacy doesn’t need to brew it this time. Find me a stove and a pot—I’ll brew it myself. The previous formulas had no effect. It’s probably because the people in your pharmacy don’t know how to brew the medicine properly.”

”Senior Brother wrote another formula?”

”This is the fifth one!”

”Don’t tell me the previous four formulas had no effect? That can’t be right. A condition of vital Qi depletion and collapse of Yang Qi is serious, but it’s not hard to treat. With Senior Brother’s medical skill, one dose should have been enough to show results. Why has it come to this?”

The disciples exclaimed in shock one after another. Genji Doju’s face was also a mask of disbelief. He could no longer sit still. He stood and strode toward Kawashima Haruhiro’s examination room. ”Let’s go. We’ll go in and see what’s going on!”

The disciples quickly got to their feet and followed him.

Just as they entered the examination room, they saw a young nurse walking out with Kawashima Haruhiro’s prescription.

She looked unhappy and muttered under her breath, ”To support this competition, our hospital assigned senior pharmacists with decades of experience to gather and brew your medicine. How could they not know how to brew it? Besides, the previous four formulas were all decocted exactly as you requested, with your own people supervising the entire time. It’s clearly your own formula that’s failing, yet you have the nerve to blame us. Have you no shame!”

When she looked up and saw Genji Doju and his group entering, she quickly shut her mouth.

But Genji Doju’s group had heard every word. Their expressions instantly turned ugly, and one of them roared at the young nurse, ”You brat! What nonsense are you spouting?!”

The young nurse jumped in fright.

Qiu Haogu and Liu Mingzhang were the ones responsible for monitoring Kawashima Haruhiro.

Seeing the group of Japanese men intimidating the young nurse, Liu Mingzhang’s fiery temper flared. He strode forward, shielded the nurse behind him, and glared at the one who had just roared. He then unleashed a torrent of abuse: ”What stray dog is this, daring to bark inside a hospital? Get the hell out of my sight!”

The man’s face turned livid. He dared to shout at the young nurse, but he didn’t dare talk back to Liu Mingzhang. After all, Elder Liu’s status and position were undeniable.

Genji Doju had no choice but to reprimand his disciple. ”Katou, shut your mouth!” Then, with a gentle expression, he turned to the young nurse and said, ”My disciple was rude just now. I apologize on his behalf. Please hurry and take the prescription to the pharmacy. Thank you for your hard work.”

After sending the young nurse on her way, Genji Doju turned to Liu Mingzhang. ”Brother Liu, we just want to come in and see how Kawashima’s treatment is progressing. Is that alright?”

Given Liu Mingzhang’s status, even Genji Doju had to be polite.

Liu Mingzhang glanced at them and warned, ”You can look, but you are not to give Kawashima any hints.”

”Rest assured, we’re only here to observe,” Genji Doju said. He then prepared to lead his disciples into the examination room.

”Wait.” Liu Mingzhang stretched out a hand, stopping the one called Katou. ”You can’t go in!”

Without a doubt, he was doing this to teach Katou a lesson on behalf of the young nurse who had been wronged earlier.

If anyone else had stopped him, Katou would have started cursing already. But against Liu Mingzhang, he simply didn’t have the guts. He could only shoot a pleading look at Genji Doju, hoping his master would say a few words on his behalf.

At that moment, however, Genji Doju’s full attention was on the tense, haggard, and anxious Kawashima Haruhiro. How could he have time for such a trivial matter? Without turning his head, he said, ”Katou, listen to Mr. Liu. Just wait outside the examination room.”

Katou’s shoulders slumped. Though he was filled with resentment and reluctance, he could only accept this outcome. He was filled with immense regret. ’Why did I have to open my big mouth just now?’

Under Liu Mingzhang’s glare, Katou sullenly retreated from the examination room.

Genji Doju, meanwhile, strode up to Kawashima Haruhiro.

Seeing him, Kawashima Haruhiro quickly stood up to greet him. Genji Doju waved his hand dismissively and asked, ”What’s going on? Why have you prescribed five formulas in a row? How long has it been? An hour and a bit at most?”

This was just a question, not an attempt to help analyze, diagnose, or treat, so Liu Mingzhang and Qiu Haogu merely frowned without intervening.

Kawashima Haruhiro sighed and said grimly, ”I don’t know what’s happening either. The four formulas I prescribed were all for replenishing Qi and restoring Yang. Logically, any one of them should have improved my condition. But after taking all four doses, there was no effect whatsoever! In fact, I feel like my condition is getting even worse!”

”What formulas did you prescribe?” Genji Doju asked in a low voice.

Liu Mingzhang and Qiu Haogu spoke in unison to stop him. ”Mr. Genji, please do not violate the rules of the competition!”

Genji Doju argued, ”I just want to know what formulas he prescribed before. I won’t be giving him any suggestions. That shouldn’t be against the rules, should it?”

Liu Mingzhang and Qiu Haogu exchanged a look. Genji Doju’s actions were not, in fact, against the rules, so they no longer tried to stop him.

”The first formula I used was Ginseng Soup! It’s a Wonderful Formula for greatly tonifying Primordial Qi and restoring Yang from collapse, with immense efficacy. But after taking it, I had no reaction at all. So, I subsequently prescribed Ginseng and Aconite Soup, then the Eight-Flavor Pill with Aconite and Cinnamon...”

Ticking them off on his fingers, Kawashima Haruhiro recounted the five formulas he had prescribed one by one to Genji Doju.

The more Genji Doju listened, the more pronounced his surprise became.

In truth, traditional Chinese medicinal soups are not as slow-acting as many people mistakenly believe.

In fact, formulas like these that greatly tonify Primordial Qi and restore Yang from collapse are supposed to take effect very quickly. Logically, one should feel the effects immediately after taking a single dose. But for Kawashima Haruhiro to have taken four different types of Qi-replenishing and Yang-restoring soups with no effect at all... it was simply too strange!

Even Genji Doju found it incredible. After a moment of contemplation, he said, ”Could it be that this isn’t vital Qi depletion and collapse of Yang Qi, but some other problem?”
