Divine Level Witch Doctor

Seeing Zhao Yuan fall silent, Ma Guotao thought he was stumped by Liu Lili’s strange illness and quickly tried to console him. ”Zhao Yuan, don’t overthink it. I’ll call the school right now and ask the experts in the relevant fields to come to Huashang. We can all discuss it together and try to come up with an effective treatment plan!”

Cui Fan sighed and shook his head. ”I don’t mean to be a wet blanket, but Liu Lili’s illness is just too bizarre. An effective treatment plan won’t be that easy to create. I think Kawashima Haruhiro knew this, and that’s exactly why he chose her as the patient for Zhao Yuan to treat! Her illness isn’t terminal, but it’s worse than any terminal illness!”

Many people agreed with this sentiment.

The doctors who had previously treated Liu Lili, in particular, all felt her condition was incredibly difficult and utterly impossible to cure.

Someone immediately proposed, ”The way I see it, rather than wasting our energy trying to come up with a treatment plan, why don’t we talk to Liu Lili’s family and have them reject Kawashima Haruhiro’s invitation?”

This proposal was met with unanimous agreement.

”That’s right! Liu Lili’s illness is completely incurable. The best solution is to prevent her from becoming Zhao Yuan’s patient in the first place!”

”We have to make Kawashima Haruhiro pick a different patient, or Zhao Yuan will very likely lose this competition!”

Cui Fan even volunteered, ”I know Liu Lili’s family, and we’re on pretty good terms. Why don’t I make a trip over there and persuade them to refuse Kawashima Haruhiro’s invitation?”

With that, he turned to leave, intending to head to Liu Lili’s house immediately to handle the matter.

Seeing this, Zhao Yuan quickly stopped him. ”Professor Cui, it’s better if you don’t go.”

Cui Fan stopped in his tracks, turned back to look at him, and asked in surprise, ”Why?”

Zhao Yuan said, ”I appreciate your good intentions, but I don’t want you to do that. It would give the practitioners of Japanese Traditional Chinese Medicine an excuse to attack us. They would definitely publicize this to smear our name. If that happens, our Traditional Chinese Medicine will become a laughingstock in the global medical community!”

After a moment of thought, everyone agreed this was a very real possibility.

Kang Fengyu said with a grave expression, ”Zhao Yuan is right. We can’t interfere with Kawashima Haruhiro’s choice of patient. The consequences would be severe!”

Cui Fan agreed. ”I was being shortsighted. Thank goodness Zhao Yuan pointed it out, or I would have caused a disaster.”

The other medical experts who had suggested this also wore apologetic and shaken expressions.

After offering them a few words of comfort, Zhao Yuan continued, ”The Buddhist Family says that saving a single life is more meritorious than building a seventh-level pagoda. Isn’t it the same for us as doctors? If I didn’t know about Liu Lili’s condition, that would be one thing. But now that I’ve heard about it, how could I back down just because her illness is strange and difficult to treat? I cannot and will not do something that goes against a Healer’s responsibility!”

Someone said hesitantly, ”But this isn’t just about treating an illness. The outcome of an extremely important competition is at stake!”

Zhao Yuan said in a low, firm voice, ”How can even the most important competition compare to a human life? As long as I can cure Liu Lili, I am willing to lose this competition!”

The entire hall fell silent.

Every medical expert present was stunned by the words Zhao Yuan had just spoken.

After a long moment, Xiao Xianlin was the first to recover, letting out a sigh. ”Zhao Yuan is right. For a Healer, the patient’s life and health are what’s most important! Everything else is secondary. To think that we old geezers, who’ve lived for most of our lives and have one foot in the grave, still don’t see things as clearly as Zhao Yuan!”

Everyone nodded in unison. Their gazes toward Zhao Yuan now held more admiration, respect, and fondness.

Before this, they had only thought of Zhao Yuan as an incredibly skilled doctor, a rare genius. But now, they discovered that beyond his medical skills, his medical ethics were also extraordinary! And that was what was most admirable and worthy of respect.

Cui Fan said with emotion, ”Zhao Yuan has taught us all a lesson today! You’re right. As Healers, our duty is to treat the sick and save lives. There is absolutely no reason to push a patient away just because their condition is strange and difficult to treat!”

Then, he changed the subject to practical matters. ”Since you’ve decided to treat Liu Lili, I’ll head back to the hospital right now and find her medical records from when she was treated there. Hopefully, they can help you analyze her case and find some answers.”

The other medical experts who had treated Liu Lili also chimed in.

”We also have Liu Lili’s case files and test reports. I’ll call back right now and have them faxed over!”

”We have them too! We’ll get them organized and send them over to you, Zhao Yuan!”

Zhao Yuan naturally wouldn’t refuse their kind offers. ”Alright, then I must thank you all, my seniors and teachers!”

Just as Zhao Yuan had predicted, it wasn’t long before Kawashima Haruhiro received the news.

At that moment, he was having dinner with Genji Doju and a group of his fellow disciples at a Japanese restaurant in Huashang.

Putting down his phone, he said, ”Teacher, I just received news. Zhao Yuan already knows that I sought out Liu Lili.”

Genji Doju lifted his cup, took a small sip, and said, ”What do they plan to do? Send someone to contact Liu Lili’s family and persuade them to reject your invitation?”

Kawashima Haruhiro replied, ”Apparently, many people advised Zhao Yuan to do just that, but he refused.”

”He refused?” Genji Doju was slightly taken aback. He then sighed, a note of regret in his voice. ”I originally thought we could use this opportunity to strike a major blow against Traditional Chinese Medicine. I didn’t expect this Zhao Yuan to be so clever for someone so young.”

These Japanese had long guessed that their search for Liu Lili would be exposed.

After all, this was Huashang, their opponent’s home turf. They couldn’t hide their every move. So, from the very beginning, they had no intention of concealing their actions. They even intentionally leaked the information so that Cui Fan would learn about their search for Liu Lili at the earliest opportunity.

In their view, upon hearing how strange and severe Liu Lili’s illness was, Zhao Yuan would surely become fearful and send someone to persuade her family to refuse to cooperate with them. And they were fully prepared; as soon as Zhao Yuan did that, they would be able to secure evidence!

At that point, they could publicize the matter and ensure that both Zhao Yuan and the world of Traditional Chinese Medicine suffered a double blow!

But they had never imagined that their plan would fail because of Zhao Yuan’s refusal.

Genji Doju said, ”Zhao Yuan and his people have dodged a bullet. However, Liu Lili’s illness, though not terminal, is worse than any terminal illness. Even I am helpless against it. No matter how skilled Zhao Yuan is, he can’t possibly have a solution! We’ve already won half of this competition. As for the other half, that will depend on you.”

He turned his gaze to Kawashima Haruhiro.

Kawashima Haruhiro immediately prostrated himself, kneeling as he vowed, ”I will give my all to win this battle of legacies for Japanese Traditional Chinese Medicine!”
