Divine Level Witch Doctor

Dreams are a reflection of the subconscious.

Words spoken in a dream are a person’s true inner thoughts; they can’t possibly be lies.

So, Zhao Yuan believed that Liu Lili had truly let go of her obsession this time. At the same time, he noticed that just as Liu Lili’s words faded, the dream world was beginning to show signs of collapse.

This meant that the sleeping Liu Lili was about to wake up.

Zhao Yuan had intended to call Chen Kaihua and Xiaochengcheng to leave with him, but when he looked over, he saw the two of them were already hugging Liu Lili tightly. He couldn’t help but sigh softly and say, ”Never mind. I’ll let the family of three have their reunion. They’ll come out on their own when the dream collapses anyway.”

He didn’t disturb the three of them and turned to leave. With every step, his body grew a little more transparent. After a dozen or so steps, he completely left Liu Lili’s dream and returned to the real world.

Opening his eyes, Zhao Yuan saw Liu Lili lying on the bed and Chen Kaihua sitting beside her.

Zeng Rui, who was floating nearby, chuckled softly and said, ”Congratulations. You succeeded in getting Liu Lili to let go of her obsession.”

Zhao Yuan was a little surprised. ”How did you know I succeeded? Did you enter Liu Lili’s dream too?”

”No.” Zeng Rui shook her head, pointed, and said, ”I could tell by looking at him.”

Zhao Yuan followed her finger and saw Xiaochengcheng’s Ghost Soul.

The chains formed by obsession were now gone from Xiaochengcheng’s Ghost Soul. He had also left Liu Lili’s body and was floating at the head of the hospital bed.

”How did you convince Liu Lili to let go of her obsession?” Zeng Rui asked curiously. She knew very well how difficult it was to persuade someone to let go of an obsession.

Zhao Yuan gave her a brief account of what happened in the dream.

After listening, Zeng Rui sighed. ”That’s a mother for you.”

Zhao Yuan agreed. ”A mother’s love is truly great.”

As they were speaking, Chen Kaihua, who was sitting by the bed, suddenly shot his eyes open.

Not yet fully transitioned from the dream back to reality, he shot to his feet, crying out, ”Son, son, where did you go? Lili, why are you lying in a hospital bed?”

”Mr. Chen, you’re awake,” Zhao Yuan said in a low voice.

”Huh?” Chen Kaihua froze for a moment, then came to his senses and quickly asked, ”That experience just now... was I in Lili’s dream?”

”That’s right.” Zhao Yuan nodded. ”Liu Lili let go of the obsession in her heart. The dream collapsed, and you woke up.”

Chen Kaihua hurriedly asked again, ”You’re saying Lili has let go of her obsession? Does that mean my son can come out of her body?”

Zhao Yuan replied, ”Don’t worry. Once Liu Lili let go of her obsession, the shackles imprisoning your son disappeared, and he was freed. Look, he’s standing right next to you now.”

Chen Kaihua was an ordinary person; he couldn’t see a Ghost Soul at all. But strangely, even though Zhao Yuan hadn’t told him which side of him Xiaochengcheng was on, he turned in the right direction and came face-to-face with him...

Perhaps this was the special connection between a father and son.

Chen Kaihua reached out his hand. Although he couldn’t see a thing, his intuition told him his son was right in front of him.

He couldn’t see Xiaochengcheng, but Xiaochengcheng could see him. Seeing his father reach out, Xiaochengcheng raised his own hand. The two hands, one large and one small, pressed tightly together.

Even though he couldn’t see or feel anything, Chen Kaihua just knew that his son’s hand was pressed against his.

Tears streamed down his face uncontrollably.

Xiaochengcheng opened his mouth and spoke a string of Ghost Talk, but Chen Kaihua couldn’t hear it. In truth, even if he could, he wouldn’t have understood it.

Fortunately, Zhao Yuan was there to act as a bridge of communication between them.

”Mr. Chen, your son is telling you not to be sad. He says you should be happy for him, because he’s about to be reincarnated and start a new life.”

”Yes, yes, Xiaochengcheng is right. I should be happy. Heh, your dad is so useless, blubbering over such a wonderful thing. I’m not as strong and sensible as Xiaochengcheng.” Chen Kaihua was laughing through his tears, his heart torn between happiness for Xiaochengcheng and Liu Lili’s release and the painful grief of his son’s death.

Just then, a beam of light suddenly appeared out of thin air, shining down on Xiaochengcheng.

The light was bright but not harsh, giving off a gentle and serene feeling. And it wasn’t just Zhao Yuan who saw it; Chen Kaihua saw it too, and he also saw Xiaochengcheng, bathed in its glow.

”Son!” Chen Kaihua cried out, his voice thick with emotion.

”Dad, it’s time for me to go.” Xiaochengcheng looked at him, smiling through his tears. ”I’ll always remember you and Mom.”

Perhaps because of this strange light, the words coming from Xiaochengcheng’s mouth were no longer bizarre Ghost Language, but fluent human speech.

At that moment, Liu Lili, lying on the hospital bed, woke up. When she saw her son bathed in the light, memories flooded her mind like a tidal wave, and she instantly understood what was happening.

Her heart ached with reluctance, but she no longer insisted on forcefully keeping Xiaochengcheng. Instead, she said through her tears, ”Son, I hope you’ll be happy in your next life. I hope your future mother won’t be as irresponsible as I was.”

Xiaochengcheng shook his head. ”Mom, in my heart, you’ve always been a good, responsible mother. From the moment I was born, you cared for me in every way, afraid I’d be hungry, afraid I’d be cold. Every night, you’d get up so many times to cover me with my blanket. When I was sick, you were even more upset than I was. I saw it all, and I’ve kept it in my heart. My death was an accident. Don’t feel guilty, and please don’t blame yourself. I want to see you live happily and healthily every day. Mom, can you promise me that?”

Liu Lili was a sobbing mess, but she nodded forcefully. ”Mom promises you. Mom will definitely be happy and healthy from now on.”

”Pinky promise.” Xiaochengcheng held out his hand.

”Okay, pinky promise.” Liu Lili reached her hand out too.

Their hands couldn’t truly touch.

After all, one was human and the other a Ghost. If their hands met, they would pass right through each other. But they still performed a perfect pinky promise, saying in unison, ”Pinky promise, for a hundred years, no changing.”

Then, they touched their thumbs together, saying with tearful smiles, ”Let’s seal it. Whoever breaks the promise is a puppy!”

After completing the pinky promise, Xiaochengcheng looked up at the beam of light shining on him and said to Liu Lili and Chen Kaihua, ”Dad, Mom, I have to go now. Thank you for taking care of me. I was so happy and blessed to be your son!”
